1 W hoso loveth discipline loveth knowledge, but he that hateth reproof is brutish.

2 A good obtaineth favour of Jehovah; but a man of mischievous devices will he condemn.

Добрий від Господа має вподобання, а людину злих замірів осудить Господь.

3 A man shall not be established by wickedness; but the root of the righteous shall not be moved.

Не зміцниться людина безбожністю, корінь же праведних не захитається.

4 A woman of worth is a crown to her husband; but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.

Жінка чеснотна корона для чоловіка свого, а засоромлююча мов та гниль в його костях.

5 T he thoughts of the righteous are right; the counsels of the wicked are deceit.

Думки праведних право, підступні заміри безбожних омана.

6 T he words of the wicked are a lying-in-wait for blood; but the mouth of the upright shall deliver them.

Безбожних слова чатування на кров, а уста невинних урятовують їх.

7 O verthrow the wicked, and they are no; but the house of the righteous shall stand.

Перевернути безбожних і вже їх нема, а дім праведних буде стояти.

8 A man is commended according to his wisdom; but he that is of a perverted heart shall be despised.

Хвалять людину за розум її, а кривосердий стає на погорду.

9 B etter is he that is lightly esteemed, and hath a servant, than he that honoureth himself, and lacketh bread.

Ліпше простий, але роботящий на себе, від того, хто поважним себе видає, та хліба позбавлений.

10 A righteous man is concerned for the life of his beast; but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.

Піклується праведний життям худоби своєї, а серце безбожних жорстоке.

11 H e that tilleth his land shall be satisfied with bread; but he that followeth the worthless is void of understanding.

Хто оброблює землю свою, той хлібом насичується, хто ж за марницею гониться, той позбавлений розуму.

12 T he wicked desireth the net of evil; but the root of the righteous yieldeth.

Безбожний жадає ловити у сітку лихих, а в праведних корень приносить плоди.

13 I n the transgression of the lips is an evil snare; but a righteous shall go forth out of trouble.

Пастка злого в гріху його уст, а праведний з утиску вийде.

14 A man is satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth; and the recompense of a man's hands shall be rendered unto him.

Людина насичується добром з плоду уст, і зроблене рук чоловіка до нього впаде.

15 T he way of a fool is right in his own eyes; but he that is wise hearkeneth unto counsel.

Дорога безумця пряма в його очах, а мудрий послухає ради.

16 T he vexation of the fool is presently known; but a prudent covereth shame.

Нерозумного гнів пізнається відразу, розумний же мовчки ховає зневагу.

17 H e that uttereth truth sheweth forth righteousness; but a false witness deceit.

Хто правду говорить, той виявлює праведність, а свідок брехливий оману.

18 T here is that babbleth like the piercings of a sword; but the tongue of the wise is health.

Дехто говорить, мов коле мечем, язик же премудрих то ліки.

19 T he lip of truth shall be established for ever; but a lying tongue is but for a moment.

Уста правдиві стоятимуть вічно, а брехливий язик лиш на хвилю.

20 D eceit is in the heart of them that devise evil; but to the counsellors of peace is joy.

В серці тих, хто зло оре, омана, а радість у тих, хто дораджує мир.

21 T here shall no evil happen to a righteous; but the wicked shall be filled with mischief.

Жодна кривда не трапиться праведному, а безбожні наповняться лихом.

22 L ying lips are an abomination to Jehovah; but they that deal truly are his delight.

Уста брехливі огида у Господа, а чинячі правду Його уподоба.

23 A prudent man concealeth knowledge; but the heart of the foolish proclaimeth folly.

Приховує мудра людина знання, а серце безумних глупоту викликує.

24 T he hand of the diligent shall bear rule; but the slothful shall be under tribute.

Роботяща рука пануватиме, а лінива даниною стане.

25 H eaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop; but a good word maketh it glad.

Туга на серці людини чавить її, добре ж слово її веселить.

26 T he righteous guideth his neighbour; but the way of the wicked misleadeth them.

Праведний вивідає свою путь, а дорога безбожних зведе їх самих.

27 T he slothful roasteth not what he took in hunting; but man's precious substance is to the diligent.

Не буде ледачий пекти свого полову, а людина трудяща набуде маєток цінний.

28 I n the path of righteousness is life, and in the pathway thereof there is no death.

В путі праведности є життя, і на стежці її нема смерти.
