1 W hen a man taketh a wife, and marrieth her, it shall be if she find no favour in his eyes, because he hath found some unseemly thing in her, that he shall write her a letter of divorce, and give it into her hand, and send her out of his house.

»Cuando alguien tome una mujer y se case con ella, si después no le agrada por haber hallado en ella alguna cosa indecente, le escribirá una carta de divorcio, se la entregará personalmente, y la despedirá de su casa.

2 A nd she shall depart out of his house, and go away, and may become another man's wife.

»Al salir de su casa, ella podrá casarse con otro hombre.

3 A nd if the latter husband hate her, and write her a letter of divorce, and give it into her hand, and send her out of his house; or if the latter husband die who took her as his wife;

Pero si el segundo esposa la aborrece y le escribe una carta de divorcio, y se la entrega personalmente y la despide de su casa, o si este segundo esposo muere,

4 h er first husband, who sent her away, may not take her again to be his wife, after that she is defiled; for it is an abomination before Jehovah; and thou shalt not cause the land to sin, which Jehovah thy God giveth thee for an inheritance.

el primer marido que la despidió no podrá volver a tomarla por esposa, pues ha quedado impura. Eso sería un acto repugnante delante del Señor, y tú no debes corromper la tierra que el Señor tu Dios te da en posesión.

5 W hen a man hath newly taken a wife, he shall not go out with the army, neither shall any kind of business be imposed upon him; he shall be free for his house one year, and shall gladden his wife whom he hath taken.

»Cuando alguien esté recién casado, no podrá ser enviado a la guerra, ni se le ocupará en ninguna otra cosa. Durante un año se quedará libre en su casa, para disfrutar de la mujer que tomó por esposa.

6 N o man shall take the hand-mill or the upper millstone in pledge; for it would be taking life in pledge.

»No tomes en prenda las piedras del molino, porque es lo mismo que tomar en prenda la vida de un hombre.

7 I f a man be found who hath stolen one of his brethren of the children of Israel, and who hath treated him as a slave and sold him, that thief shall die; and thou shalt put evil away from thy midst.

»Si alguien secuestra a uno de sus compatriotas israelitas, y se descubre que lo ha hecho esclavo, o lo ha vendido, ese bandido será condenado a muerte. Así quitarás de en medio de ti el mal.

8 T ake heed in the plague of leprosy, that thou take great heed, and do according to all that the priests the Levites shall teach you: as I commanded them shall ye take heed to do.

»En cuanto a alguna plaga de lepra, ten cuidado de aplicar diligentemente todas las enseñanzas de los sacerdotes levitas y de seguir al pie de la letra las instrucciones que yo les he dado.

9 R emember what Jehovah thy God did unto Miriam on the way, after that ye came forth out of Egypt.

Acuérdate de lo que el Señor tu Dios hizo en el camino con María, después de que ustedes salieron de Egipto.

10 W hen thou dost lend thy brother anything, thou shalt not go into his house to secure his pledge.

»Cuando des a tu prójimo algo en préstamo, no entres en su casa para recibir algo en prenda.

11 T hou shalt stand outside, and the man to whom thou hast made a loan shall bring out the pledge to thee without.

Quédate afuera, y deja que el hombre a quien hiciste el préstamo sea quien te entregue la prenda.

12 A nd if the man be needy, thou shalt not lie down with his pledge;

Si ese hombre es pobre, no retendrás su prenda durante la noche,

13 i n any case thou shalt return him the pledge at the going down of the sun, that he may sleep in his own upper garment and bless thee; and it shall be righteousness unto thee before Jehovah thy God.

sino que sin falta se la devolverás al ponerse el sol. Así él podrá dormir con su ropa, y te bendecirá, y delante del Señor tu Dios se te contará como un acto de justicia.

14 T hou shalt not oppress a hired servant poor and needy of thy brethren, or of thy sojourners who are in thy land within thy gates:

»No oprimas al jornalero pobre y menesteroso, ya sea éste uno de tus compatriotas o algún extranjero de los que habitan en tu tierra y dentro de tus ciudades.

15 o n his day thou shalt give him his hire, neither shall the sun go down upon it; for he is poor, and his soul yearneth after it; lest he cry against thee to Jehovah, and it be a sin in thee.

Le pagarás su jornal el mismo día, antes de que se ponga el sol, pues ese hombre es pobre y necesita su paga para vivir. De lo contrario, pedirá ayuda al Señor, y esto será un pecado en tu contra.

16 T he fathers shall not be put to death for the sons, neither shall the sons be put to death for the fathers: every man shall be put to death for his own sin.

»Ningún padre morirá en lugar de su hijo, ni tampoco ningún hijo morirá en lugar de su padre; cada uno responderá por su propio pecado.

17 T hou shalt not pervert the judgment of the stranger, of the fatherless; and thou shalt not take in pledge a widow's garment.

»No tuerzas el derecho de los extranjeros ni de los huérfanos, ni tomes en prenda la ropa de las viudas.

18 A nd thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in Egypt, and that Jehovah thy God redeemed thee from thence; therefore I command thee to do this thing.

Acuérdate que fuiste esclavo en Egipto, y que de allí te rescató el Señor tu Dios. Por lo tanto, yo te mando que actúes así.

19 W hen thou reapest thy harvest in thy field, and forgettest a sheaf in the field, thou shalt not return to fetch it; it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow; that Jehovah thy God may bless thee in all the work of thy hands.

»Cuando siegues el trigo de tu campo, y dejes algún manojo en el campo, no regreses a recogerlo; déjalo allí para los extranjeros, los huérfanos y las viudas. Así te bendecirá el Señor tu Dios en todo lo que hagas.

20 W hen thou shakest thine olive-tree, thou shalt not go over the boughs again; it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow.

»Cuando sacudas tus olivos, no recorras todas las ramas que dejes tras de ti; déjalas para los extranjeros, los huérfanos y las viudas.

21 W hen thou gatherest the grapes of thy vineyard, thou shalt not glean it afterwards; it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow.

»Cuando vendimies tu viña, no rebusques lo que se haya quedado; déjalo para los extranjeros, los huérfanos y las viudas.

22 A nd thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in the land of Egypt; therefore I command thee to do this thing.

Acuérdate que fuiste esclavo en Egipto. Por lo tanto, yo te mando que actúes así.
