1 A nd in the seventh year Jehoiada strengthened himself, and took the captains of the hundreds, Azariah the son of Jeroham, and Ishmael the son of Jehohanan, and Azariah the son of Obed, and Maaseiah the son of Adaiah, and Elishaphat the son of Zichri, into covenant with him.

En el séptimo año Joyadá se animó y se alió con los jefes de centenas Azarías hijo de Jeroán, Ismael hijo de Johanán, Azarías hijo de Obed, Maseías hijo de Adaías, y Elisafat hijo de Zicri.

2 A nd they went about in Judah and gathered together the Levites out of all the cities of Judah, and the chief fathers of Israel; and they came to Jerusalem.

Éstos recorrieron el país de Judá y reunieron a los levitas de todas las ciudades de Judá, lo mismo que a los jefes de las familias de Israel, y se concentraron en Jerusalén.

3 A nd all the congregation made a covenant with the king in the house of God. And he said to them, Behold, the king's son shall reign, as Jehovah has said of the sons of David.

Allí, en el templo de Dios, toda la multitud hizo un pacto con el rey. Y Joyadá les dijo: «Aquí tienen al hijo del rey, y él reinará, como el Señor lo ha prometido respecto de los hijos de David.

4 T his is the thing which ye shall do: a third part of you that come in on the sabbath, of the priests and of the Levites, shall be keepers of the doors;

Ahora, hagan esto: una tercera parte de ustedes, los que pueden entrar en el día de reposo, fungirán como porteros con los sacerdotes y los levitas.

5 a nd a third part shall be at the king's house; and a third part at the gate of the foundation; and all the people shall be in the courts of the house of Jehovah.

Otra tercera parte estará en el palacio del rey, y la tercera parte restante estará en la Puerta del Cimiento. Todo el pueblo estará en los patios del templo del Señor.

6 B ut let none come into the house of Jehovah except the priests and those of the Levites that do the service; they shall go in, for they are holy; but all the people shall keep the watch of Jehovah.

Nadie podrá entrar en el templo del Señor; sólo podrán entrar los sacerdotes y los levitas que ministran, porque están consagrados. Todo el pueblo hará guardia delante del Señor.

7 A nd the Levites shall encompass the king round about, every man with his weapons in his hand; and he that comes into the house shall be put to death; and ye shall be with the king when he comes in and when he goes out.

Los levitas rodearán al rey por todos lados, y cada uno de ellos tendrá sus armas en la mano. Cualquiera que entre en el templo, morirá. Ustedes deben acompañar al rey cuando entre y cuando salga.»

8 A nd the Levites and all Judah did according to all that Jehoiada the priest commanded; and they took every man his men, those that were to come in on the sabbath, with them that were to go forth on the sabbath; for Jehoiada the priest did not liberate the divisions.

Los levitas y todo Judá siguieron al pie de la letra las órdenes del sacerdote Joyadá. Cada jefe tomó a los suyos, tanto a los que entraban en el día de reposo como a los que salían, porque el sacerdote Joyadá no dio a nadie permiso de ausentarse.

9 A nd Jehoiada the priest gave to the captains of the hundreds king David's spears and shields and targets, which were in the house of God.

Además, el sacerdote Joyadá entregó a los jefes de centenas las lanzas, los paveses y los escudos que habían sido del rey David, y que estaban en el templo de Dios,

10 A nd he set all the people, every man with his javelin in his hand, from the right side of the house to the left side of the house, toward the altar and the house, by the king round about.

y puso en orden a todo el pueblo. Cada uno de ellos tenía su espada en la mano, desde el rincón derecho del templo hasta el izquierdo, hacia el altar y el templo, y por todas partes alrededor del rey.

11 A nd they brought forth the king's son, and put the crown upon him, and the testimony, and made him king. And Jehoiada and his sons anointed him, and said, Long live the king!

Entonces sacaron al hijo del rey, le pusieron la corona y el testimonio, y lo proclamaron rey. Joyadá y sus hijos lo ungieron, mientras gritaban: «¡Viva el rey!»

12 A nd Athaliah heard the noise of the people running and praising the king, and she came to the people into the house of Jehovah.

Cuando Atalía oyó el estruendo de la gente que corría, y de los que aclamaban al rey, fue al templo del Señor para encontrarse con la gente,

13 A nd she looked, and behold, the king stood on his dais at the entrance, and the princes and the trumpets were by the king; and all the people of the land rejoiced, and blew with trumpets; and the singers with the instruments of music, and such as taught to sing praise. And Athaliah rent her garments, and said, Conspiracy! Conspiracy!

y al ver Atalía al rey a la entrada, junto a su columna, y junto al rey a los príncipes y los trompeteros, y que todo la gente se mostraba muy alegre y tocaba bocinas, y que los cantores dirigían la alabanza con instrumentos de música, rasgó sus vestidos y gritó: «¡Traición! ¡Traición!»

14 A nd Jehoiada the priest brought out the captains of the hundreds that were set over the host, and said to them, Lead her forth without the ranks; and whosoever follows her, let him be slain with the sword; for the priest said, Ye shall not put her to death in the house of Jehovah.

Pero el sacerdote Joyadá ordenó que salieran los jefes de centenas del ejército, y les dijo: «¡Sáquenla de aquí! Y a quien la siga, ¡mátenlo a filo de espada!» Y es que el sacerdote había ordenado que no la mataran dentro del templo del Señor.

15 A nd they made way for her, and she went through the entrance of the horse-gate into the king's house, and they put her to death there.

Ellos le echaron mano, y tan pronto como ella cruzó el umbral de la puerta de las caballerizas del rey, la mataron.

16 A nd Jehoiada made a covenant between himself and all the people and the king, that they should be the people of Jehovah.

Entonces Joyadá hizo un pacto con todo el pueblo y con el rey, de que ellos serían el pueblo del Señor.

17 A nd all the people went into the house of Baal, and broke it down; and they broke his altars and his images in pieces, and slew Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars.

Después de esto, todo el pueblo entró en el templo de Baal y lo derribaron, y derribaron también sus altares, hicieron pedazos sus imágenes, y delante de los altares mataron a Matán, sacerdote de Baal.

18 A nd Jehoiada appointed the offices of the house of Jehovah under the hand of the priests, the Levites, whom David had set by classes over the house of Jehovah to offer up Jehovah's burnt-offerings, as it is written in the law of Moses,—with rejoicing and with singing according to the directions of David.

Luego Joyadá ordenó los oficios en el templo del Señor, bajo el control de los sacerdotes y levitas, según David los había distribuido en el templo del Señor, para ofrecer al Señor los holocaustos, con gozo y con cánticos, como está descrito en la ley de Moisés y conforme a las disposiciones de David.

19 A nd he set the doorkeepers at the gates of the house of Jehovah, that no one unclean in anything should enter in.

Puso también porteros a la entrada del templo del Señor, para que de ninguna manera entrara nadie que estuviera impuro.

20 A nd he took the captains of the hundreds, and the nobles, and the governors of the people, and all the people of the land, and brought down the king from the house of Jehovah; and they came through the upper gate into the king's house, and set the king upon the throne of the kingdom.

Después llamó a los jefes de centenas, y a los principales, a los que gobernaban el pueblo y a todo el pueblo de la tierra, para llevar al rey desde el templo del Señor. Cuando llegaron a la mitad de la puerta principal del palacio del rey, sentaron al rey sobre el trono del reino.

21 A nd all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was quiet; and they had slain Athaliah with the sword.

Y después de que mataron a Atalía a filo de espada, todo el pueblo del país vivió feliz y la ciudad tuvo tranquilidad.
