1 T he word of Jehovah that came to the prophet Jeremiah concerning the Philistines, before Pharaoh smote Gazah.

La palabra del Señor acerca de los filisteos vino al profeta Jeremías antes de que el faraón destruyera Gaza.

2 T hus saith Jehovah: Behold, waters rise up out of the north, and shall become an overflowing flood, and shall overflow the land, and all that is therein; the city, and them that dwell therein: and the men shall cry, and all the inhabitants of the land shall howl,

«Así ha dicho el Señor: “Las aguas del norte suben de nivel, y pronto serán un torrente. Inundarán la tierra en su plenitud, la ciudad y sus habitantes; la gente pedirá ayuda; todos los habitantes de la tierra harán lamentos.

3 a t the noise of the stamping of the hoofs of his steeds, at the rushing of his chariots, at the rumbling of his wheels: fathers shall not look back for children, from feebleness of hands;

Tan débiles estarán los padres que no cuidarán a sus hijos cuando oigan los cascos de los caballos y el estruendo de los carros de guerra,

4 b ecause of the day that cometh to lay waste all the Philistines, to cut off from Tyre and Sidon every helper that remaineth; for Jehovah will lay waste the Philistines, the remnant of the island of Caphtor.

cuando llegue el día en que todos los filisteos serán destruidos, porque serán destruidas Tiro y Sidón, y todos los aliados que aún les queden. El Señor destruirá a los filisteos y al resto de la costa de Caftor.

5 B aldness is come upon Gazah; Ashkelon is cut off, the remnant of their valley: how long wilt thou cut thyself?

Gaza ha sido rapada, y Ascalón ha perecido, lo mismo que el resto de su valle; ¿hasta cuándo te harás heridas por tu luto?

6 A las! sword of Jehovah, how long wilt thou not be quiet? Withdraw into thy scabbard, rest, and be still.

Espada del Señor, ¿hasta cuándo vas a descansar? Vuelve a tu vaina y reposa. ¡Sosiégate!

7 H ow shouldest thou be quiet?—For Jehovah hath given it a charge: against Ashkelon, and against the sea shore, there hath he appointed it.

¿Pero cómo vas a reposar, si el Señor te ha ordenado atacar a Ascalón y a la costa del mar?”
