1 A nd Bildad the Shuhite answered and said,

Então respondeu Bildade, o suíta, dizendo:

2 H ow long wilt thou speak these things? and the words of thy mouth be a strong wind?

Até quando falarás tais coisas, e até quando serão as palavras da tua boca qual vento impetuoso?

3 D oth God pervert judgment, and the Almighty pervert justice?

Perverteria Deus o direito? Ou perverteria o Todo-Poderoso a justiça?

4 I f thy children have sinned against him, he hath also given them over into the hand of their transgression.

Se teus filhos pecaram contra ele, ele os entregou ao poder da sua transgressão.

5 I f thou seek earnestly unto God, and make thy supplication to the Almighty,

Mas, se tu com empenho buscares a Deus, e, ao Todo-Poderoso fizeres a tua súplica,

6 I f thou be pure and upright, surely now he will awake for thee, and make the habitation of thy righteousness prosperous;

se fores puro e reto, certamente mesmo agora ele despertará por ti, e tornará segura a habitação da tua justiça.

7 A nd though thy beginning was small, yet thine end shall be very great.

Embora tenha sido pequeno o teu princípio, contudo o teu último estado aumentará grandemente.

8 F or inquire, I pray thee, of the former generation, and attend to the researches of their fathers;

Indaga, pois, eu te peço, da geração passada, e considera o que seus pais descobriram.

9 F or we are of yesterday, and know nothing, for our days upon earth are a shadow.

Porque nós somos de ontem, e nada sabemos, porquanto nossos dias sobre a terra, são uma sombra.

10 S hall not they teach thee, tell thee, and utter words out of their heart?

Não te ensinarão eles, e não te falarão, e do seu entendimento não proferirão palavras?

11 D oth the papyrus shoot up without mire? doth the reed-grass grow without water?

Pode o papiro desenvolver-se fora de um pântano. Ou pode o junco crescer sem água?

12 W hilst it is yet in its greenness not cut down, it withereth before any grass.

Quando está em flor e ainda não cortado, seca-se antes de qualquer outra erva.

13 S o are the paths of all that forget God; and the profane man's hope shall perish,

Assim são as veredas de todos quantos se esquecem de Deus; a esperança do ímpio perecerá,

14 W hose confidence shall be cut off, and his reliance is a spider's web.

a sua segurança se desfará, e a sua confiança será como a teia de aranha.

15 H e shall lean upon his house, and it shall not stand; he shall lay hold on it, but it shall not endure.

Encostar-se-á ã sua casa, porém ela não subsistirá; apegar-se-lhe-á, porém ela não permanecerá.

16 H e is full of sap before the sun, and his sprout shooteth forth over his garden;

Ele está verde diante do sol, e os seus renovos estendem-se sobre o seu jardim;

17 H is roots are entwined about the stoneheap; he seeth the place of stones.

as suas raízes se entrelaçam junto ao monte de pedras; até penetra o pedregal.

18 I f he destroy him from his place, then it shall deny him: I have not seen thee!

Mas quando for arrancado do seu lugar, então este o negará, dizendo: Nunca te vi.

19 B ehold, this is the joy of his way, and out of the dust shall others grow.

Eis que tal é a alegria do seu caminho; e da terra outros brotarão.

20 B ehold, God will not cast off a perfect man, neither will he take evil-doers by the hand.

Eis que Deus não rejeitará ao reto, nem tomará pela mão os malfeitores;

21 W hilst he would fill thy mouth with laughing and thy lips with shouting,

ainda de riso te encherá a boca, e os teus lábios de louvor.

22 T hey that hate thee shall be clothed with shame, and the tent of the wicked be no more.

Teus aborrecedores se vestirão de confusão; e a tenda dos ímpios não subsistirá.
