pus Hanâni, meu irmão, e Hananias, governador do castelo, sobre Jerusalém; pois ele era homem fiel e temente a Deus, mais do que muitos;

3 A nd I said to them that the gates of Jerusalem should not be opened until the sun was hot, and that they should shut the doors and bar them while they stood by; and that there should be appointed watches of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, every one in his watch, and every one over against his house.

e eu lhes disse: Não se abram as portas de Jerusalém até que o sol aqueça; e enquanto os guardas estiverem nos postos se fechem e se tranquem as portas; e designei dentre os moradores de Jerusalém guardas, cada um por seu turno, e cada um diante da sua casa.

4 N ow the city was large and great; but the people in it were few, and no houses were built.

Ora, a cidade era larga e grande, mas o povo dentro dela era pouco, e ainda as casa não estavam edificadas.

5 A nd my God put into my heart to gather together the nobles, and the rulers, and the people, for registration by genealogy. And I found a genealogical register of those that had come up at the first, and I found written in it:

Então o meu Deus me pôs no coração que ajuntasse os nobres, os magistrados e o povo, para registrar as genealogias. E achei o livro da genealogia dos que tinham subido primeiro e achei escrito nele o seguinte:

6 T hese are the children of the province that went up out of the captivity of those that had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away, and who came again to Jerusalem and to Judah, every one to his city;

Este são os filhos da província que subiram do cativeiro dentre os exilados, que Nabucodonozor, rei da Babilônia, transportara e que voltaram para Jerusalém e para Judá, cada um para a sua cidade,

Estes foram os que subiram de Tel-Mela, Tel-Harsa, Querube, Adom, e Imer; porém não puderam provar que as suas casas paternas e as sua linhagem eram de Israel:

E dos sacerdotes: os filhos de Hobaías, os filhos Hacoz, os filhos de Barzilai, que tomara por mulher uma das filhas Barzilai, o gileadita, e que foi chamado do seu nome.

64 T hese sought their genealogical register, but it was not found; therefore were they, as polluted, removed from the priesthood.

Estes buscaram o seu registro entre os arrolados nos registros genealógicos, mas não foi encontrado; pelo que, tidos por imundos, foram excluídos do sacerdócio.

65 A nd the Tirshatha said to them that they should not eat of the most holy things, till there stood up the priest with Urim and Thummim.

E o governador lhes disse que não comesse das coisas sagradas, até que se levantasse um sacerdote com Urim e Tumim.

afora os seus servos e as suas servas, que foram sete mil trezentos e trinta e sete; e tinham duzentos e quarenta e cinco cantores e cantoras.

68 T heir horses were seven hundred and thirty-six; their mules, two hundred and forty-five;

Os seus cavalos foram setecentos e trinta e seis; os seus mulos, duzentos e quarenta e cinco;

69 t he camels, four hundred and thirty-five; the asses, six thousand seven hundred and twenty.

os seus camelos, quatrocentos e trinta e cinco; e os seus jumentos, seis mil setecentos e vinte.

70 A nd some of the chief fathers gave to the work. The Tirshatha gave to the treasure a thousand darics of gold, fifty basons, five hundred and thirty priests' coats.

Ora, alguns dos cabeças das casas paternas contribuíram para a obra. O governador deu para a tesouraria mil dários de ouro, cinqüenta bacias, e quinhentas e trinta vestes sacerdotais.

71 A nd of the chief fathers gave to the treasure of the work twenty thousand darics of gold, and two thousand two hundred pounds of silver.

E alguns dos cabeças das casas paternas deram para a tesouraria da obra vinte mil dáricos de ouro, e duas mil e duzentas minas de prata.

72 A nd that which the rest of the people gave was twenty thousand darics of gold, and two thousand pounds of silver, and sixty-seven priests' coats.

O que o resto do povo deu foram vinte mil dáricos de ouro, duas mil minas de prata, e sessenta e sete vestes sacerdotais.

73 A nd the priests, and the Levites, and the doorkeepers, and the singers, and of the people, and the Nethinim, and all Israel, dwelt in their cities. And when the seventh month came, and the children of Israel were in their cities,

Os sacerdotes, os levitas, os porteiros, os cantores, alguns dentre o povo, os netinins e todo o Israel habitaram nas suas cidades. Quando chegou o sétimo mês, já se achavam os filhos de Israel nas suas cidades.
