1 А когато Аполос беше в Коринт, Павел, след като беше минал през горните страни, дойде в Ефес, където намери някои ученици.

And it came to pass, in Apollos' being in Corinth, Paul having gone through the upper parts, came to Ephesus, and having found certain disciples,

2 И им каза: Приехте ли Святия Дух, като повярвахте? А те му отговориха: Даже не сме чули дали има Свят Дух.

he said unto them, `The Holy Spirit did ye receive -- having believed?' and they said unto him, `But we did not even hear whether there is any Holy Spirit;'

3 И каза: А в какво се кръстихте? А те отвърнаха: В Йоановото кръщение.

and he said unto them, `To what, then, were ye baptized?' and they said, `To John's baptism.'

4 А Павел каза: Йоан е кръщавал с кръщението на покаяние, като е казвал на народа да вярва в Този, Който щеше да дойде след него, т. е. в Исус.

And Paul said, `John, indeed, did baptize with a baptism of reformation, saying to the people that in him who is coming after him they should believe -- that is, in the Christ -- Jesus;'

5 И като чуха това, кръстиха се в името на Господ Исус.

and they, having heard, were baptized -- to the name of the Lord Jesus,

6 И когато Павел положи ръце на тях, Святият Дух слезе на тях; и говореха други езици и пророкуваха.

and Paul having laid on them hands, the Holy Spirit came upon them, they were speaking also with tongues, and prophesying,

7 А те всички бяха около дванадесет мъже.

and all the men were, as it were, twelve.

8 И той влезе в синагогата, където говореше дързостно; и в разстояние на три месеца разискваше с хората и ги увещаваше за неща, които се отнасяха до Божието царство.

And having gone into the synagogue, he was speaking boldly for three months, reasoning and persuading the things concerning the reign of God,

9 А понеже някои се закоравяваха и не вярваха, но злословеха учението пред народа, той се оттегли от тях и отдели учениците, и всеки ден разискваше в училището на Тирана.

and when certain were hardened and were disbelieving, speaking evil of the way before the multitude, having departed from them, he did separate the disciples, every day reasoning in the school of a certain Tyrannus.

10 И това продължи две години, така че всички, които живееха в Азия, и юдеи, и гърци, чуха Господнето учение. Синовете на Скева

And this happened for two years so that all those dwelling in Asia did hear the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks,

11 П ри това Бог вършеше особени велики дела чрез ръцете на Павел;

mighty works also -- not common -- was God working through the hands of Paul,

12 д отолкова, че когато носеха на болните кърпи или престилки от неговото тяло, болестите изчезваха от тях и злите духове излизаха от тях.

so that even unto the ailing were brought from his body handkerchiefs or aprons, and the sicknesses departed from them; the evil spirits also went forth from them.

13 А някои от юдейските странстващи заклинатели предприеха да произнасят името на Господ Исус над тези, които имаха зли духове, като казваха: Заклевам ви в Исус, Когото Павел проповядва.

And certain of the wandering exorcist Jews, took upon to name over those having the evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, `We adjure you by Jesus, whom Paul doth preach;'

14 И между тези, които вършеха това, бяха седемте синове на някой си юдеин Скева, главен свещеник.

and there were certain -- seven sons of Sceva, a Jew, a chief priest -- who are doing this thing;

15 Н о веднъж злият дух им отговори: Исус признавам и Павел зная; но вие кои сте?

and the evil spirit, answering, said, `Jesus I know, and Paul I am acquainted with; and ye -- who are ye?'

16 И човекът, в когото беше злият дух, скочи върху тях и като надви и двамата, взе надмощие над тях, така че те избягаха от онази къща голи и ранени.

And the man, in whom was the evil spirit, leaping upon them, and having overcome them, prevailed against them, so that naked and wounded they did flee out of that house,

17 И това стана известно на всички ефески жители - и юдеи, и гърци; и страх обзе всички тях и името на Господ Исус се възвеличаваше.

and this became known to all, both Jews and Greeks, who are dwelling at Ephesus, and fear fell upon them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was being magnified,

18 И мнозина от повярвалите идваха и се изповядваха, и разкриваха делата си.

many also of those who did believe were coming, confessing and declaring their acts,

19 С ъщо и мнозина от тези, които правеха магии, донасяха книгите си и ги изгаряха пред всички, и като пресметнаха цената им, установиха, че беше петдесет хиляди сребърника.

and many of those who had practised the curious arts, having brought the books together, were burning before all; and they reckoned together the prices of them, and found five myriads of silverlings;

20 Т ака Господнето учение растеше силно и вземаше надмощие. Размириците в Ефес

so powerfully was the word of God increasing and prevailing.

21 И като свърши това, Павел чрез Духа реши да отиде в Йерусалим, след като обиколи Македония и Ахая, като казваше: Като постоя там, трябва да видя и Рим.

And when these things were fulfilled, Paul purposed in the Spirit, having gone through Macedonia and Achaia, to go on to Jerusalem, saying -- `After my being there, it behoveth me also to see Rome;'

22 И изпрати в Македония двама от тези, които му помагаха - Тимотей и Ераст; а той остана за още известно време в Азия.

and having sent to Macedonia two of those ministering to him -- Timotheus and Erastus -- he himself stayed a time in Asia.

23 А по онова време се надигна голямо вълнение относно Господния път.

And there came, at that time, not a little stir about the way,

24 З ащото един златар на име Димитри, който правеше сребърни храмчета на Артемида и осигуряваше немалко печалба на занаятчиите,

for a certain one, Demetrius by name, a worker in silver, making silver sanctuaries of Artemis, was bringing to the artificers gain not a little,

25 к ато събра и тях, и онези, които работеха подобни неща, каза: О, мъже, вие знаете, че от тази работа идва нашето богатство.

whom, having brought in a crowd together, and those who did work about such things, he said, `Men, ye know that by this work we have our wealth;

26 И вие виждате и чувате, че не само в Ефес, но почти в цяла Азия този Павел е убедил и обърнал големи множества, като казва, че не са богове тези, които са направени от ръка.

and ye see and hear, that not only at Ephesus, but almost in all Asia, this Paul, having persuaded, did turn away a great multitude, saying, that they are not gods who are made by hands;

27 И има опасност не само това наше занятие да изпадне в презрение, но и храмът на великата богиня Артемида да се смята за нищо, и даже да помръкне величието на онази, на която цяла Азия и светът се покланят.

and not only is this department in danger for us of coming into disregard, but also, that of the great goddess Artemis the temple is to be reckoned for nothing, and also her greatness is about to be brought down, whom all Asia and the world doth worship.'

28 К ато чуха това, те се изпълниха с гняв и викаха: Велика е ефеската Артемида!

And they having heard, and having become full of wrath, were crying out, saying, `Great the Artemis of the Ephesians!'

29 И безредица обхвана града; и като уловиха македонците Гай и Аристарх, спътници на Павел, единодушно се втурнаха в театъра.

and the whole city was filled with confusion, they rushed also with one accord into the theatre, having caught Gaius and Aristarchus, Macedonians, Paul's fellow-travellers.

30 А когато Павел искаше да влезе между народа, учениците не го пуснаха.

And on Paul's purposing to enter in unto the populace, the disciples were not suffering him,

31 Т ака и някои от началниците на Азия, понеже му бяха приятели, изпратиха до него да го помолят да не се показва в театъра.

and certain also of the chief men of Asia, being his friends, having sent unto him, were entreating him not to venture himself into the theatre.

32 И така, едни викаха едно, а други - друго; защото събранието беше разнородно и повечето не знаеха защо се бяха стекли.

Some indeed, therefore, were calling out one thing, and some another, for the assembly was confused, and the greater part did not know for what they were come together;

33 А някои от народа изкараха Александър да говори, понеже юдеите посочиха него; и Александър помаха с ръка и искаше да даде обяснение пред народа.

and out of the multitude they put forward Alexander -- the Jews thrusting him forward -- and Alexander having beckoned with the hand, wished to make defence to the populace,

34 Н о като познаха, че е юдеин, всички едногласно викаха около два часа: Велика е ефеската Артемида!

and having known that he is a Jew, one voice came out of all, for about two hours, crying, `Great the Artemis of the Ephesians!'

35 Т огава градският писар, като въдвори тишина между народа, каза: Ефесяни, кой е онзи човек, който не знае, че град Ефес е пазач на храма на великата Артемида и на падналия от Зевс идол ?

And the public clerk having quieted the multitude, saith, `Men, Ephesians, why, who is the man that doth not know that the city of the Ephesians is a devotee of the great goddess Artemis, and of that which fell down from Zeus?

36 И така, понеже това е неоспоримо, вие трябва да мирувате и да не правите нищо необмислено.

these things, then, not being to be gainsaid, it is necessary for you to be quiet, and to do nothing rashly.

37 З ащото сте довели тук тези човеци, които нито са светотатци, нито хулят нашата богиня.

`For ye brought these men, who are neither temple-robbers nor speaking evil of your goddess;

38 И така, ако Димитри и занаятчиите, които са с него, имат спор с някого, съдилищата заседават и има съдийски чиновници; нека се съдят едни други.

if indeed, therefore, Demetrius and the artificers with him with any one have a matter, court are held, and there are proconsuls; let them accuse one another.

39 Н о ако търсите нещо друго, то ще се реши на редовното събрание.

`And if ye seek after anything concerning other matters, in the legal assembly it shall be determined;

40 З ащото има опасност да ни обвинят поради днешното размирие, понеже няма никаква причина за него; и колкото за това, ние не можем да оправдаем това сборище.

for we are also in peril of being accused of insurrection in regard to this day, there being no occasion by which we shall be able to give an account of this concourse;'

41 И като каза това, разпусна събранието.

and these things having said, he dismissed the assembly.
