1 О ттам Авраам тръгна на юг. Той се засели между Кадис и Сур и живееше като пришълец в Герар.

And Abraham journeyeth from thence toward the land of the south, and dwelleth between Kadesh and Shur, and sojourneth in Gerar;

2 И понеже Авраам казваше за жена си Сара: Сестра ми е, то Герарският цар Авимелех прати и взе Сара.

and Abraham saith concerning Sarah his wife, `She is my sister;' and Abimelech king of Gerar sendeth and taketh Sarah.

3 Н о Бог дойде при Авимелех в съня му през нощта и му каза: Ето, ти умираш заради жената, която си взел; защото тя си има мъж.

And God cometh in unto Abimelech in a dream of the night, and saith to him, `Lo, thou a dead man, because of the woman whom thou hast taken -- and she married to a husband.'

4 ( А Авимелех не беше се докоснал до нея.) И каза: Господи, ще погубиш ли и един праведен народ?

And Abimelech hath not drawn near unto her, and he saith, `Lord, also a righteous nation dost thou slay?

5 Н е ми ли каза сам той: Сестра ми е? Също и самата тя каза: Той ми е брат. С право сърце и с чисти ръце аз направих това.

hath not he himself said to me, She my sister! and she, even she herself, said, He my brother; in the integrity of my heart, and in the innocency of my hands, I have done this.'

6 Б ог му каза в съня: Да, Аз зная, че си направил това с праведно сърце; също така Аз те въздържах да не съгрешиш против Мен и затова не те оставих да се докоснеш до нея.

And God saith unto him in the dream, `Yea, I -- I have known that in the integrity of thy heart thou hast done this, and I withhold thee, even I, from sinning against Me, therefore I have not suffered thee to come against her;

7 И така, сега върни жената на човека, защото е пророк и ще се помоли за теб, и ти ще останеш жив; но ако не я върнеш, знай, че непременно ще умреш, ти и всички твои хора.

and now send back the man's wife, for he inspired, and he doth pray for thee, and live thou; and if thou do not send back, know that dying thou dost die, thou, and all that thou hast.'

8 Н а сутринта, като стана рано, Авимелех повика всичките си слуги и извести всички тези неща в ушите им; и хората се уплашиха много.

And Abimelech riseth early in the morning, and calleth for all his servants, and speaketh all these words in their ears; and the men fear exceedingly;

9 Т огава Авимелех повика Авраам и го запита: Какво ни причини ти? С какво съгреших пред тебе, че си навлякъл на мен и на царството ми голям грях? Причинил си ми неща, които не трябваше да се правят.

and Abimelech calleth for Abraham, and saith to him, `What hast thou done to us? and what have I sinned against thee, that thou hast brought upon me, and upon my kingdom, a great sin? works which are not done thou hast done with me.'

10 А вимелех каза още на Авраам: Защо направи това?

Abimelech also saith unto Abraham, `What hast thou seen that thou hast done this thing?'

11 А враам отговори: Направих го, понеже си казах: Няма да има страх от Бога в това място и ще ме убият заради жена ми.

And Abraham saith, `Because I said, `Surely the fear of God is not in this place, and they have slain me for the sake of my wife;

12 А при това тя наистина ми е сестра, дъщеря на баща ми, но не и дъщеря на майка ми; и ми стана жена.

and also, truly she is my sister, daughter of my father, only not daughter of my mother, and she becometh my wife;

13 И когато Бог ме изпрати далеч от бащиния ни дом, ѝ казах: Ще ми направиш тази добрина - на всяко място, където отидем, казвай за мене: Брат ми е.

and it cometh to pass, when God hath caused me to wander from my father's house, that I say to her, This thy kindness which thou dost with me: at every place whither we come, say of me, He my brother.'

14 Т огава Авимелех взе овце и говеда, слуги и слугини и ги даде на Авраам, и върна жена му Сара.

And Abimelech taketh sheep and oxen, and servants and handmaids, and giveth to Abraham, and sendeth back to him Sarah his wife;

15 И Авимелех каза: Ето, земята ми е пред тебе; засели се където ти хареса.

and Abimelech saith, `Lo, my land before thee, where it is good in thine eyes, dwell;'

16 А на Сара каза: Виж, дадох на брат ти хиляда сребърника; ето, това ти е покривало за очите пред всички, които са с теб; и пред всички хора си оправдана.

and to Sarah he hath said, `Lo, I have given a thousand silverlings to thy brother; lo, it is to thee a covering of eyes, to all who are with thee;' and by all this she is reasoned with.

17 И така, Авраам се помоли на Бога; и Бог изцели Авимелех и жена му, и слугите му; и раждаха деца.

And Abraham prayeth unto God, and God healeth Abimelech and his wife, and his handmaids, and they bear:

18 З ащото поради Авраамовата жена Сара Господ беше заключил всички утроби на Авимелеховия дом.

for Jehovah restraining had restrained every womb of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah, Abraham's wife.
