1 В онези дни дойде Йоан Кръстител и проповядваше в Юдейската пустиня, като казваше:

And in those days cometh John the Baptist, proclaiming in the wilderness of Judea,

2 П окайте се, понеже наближи небесното царство.

and saying, `Reform, for come nigh hath the reign of the heavens,'

3 З ащото този беше, за когото се е говорило чрез пророк Исая: "Глас на един, който вика в пустинята: Пригответе пътя на Господа! Пра̀ви направете пътеките за Него!"

for this is he who was spoken of by Isaiah the prophet, saying, `A voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, straight make ye His paths.'

4 А този Йоан носеше облекло от камилска козина и кожен пояс около кръста си; а храната му беше акриди и див мед.

And this John had his clothing of camel's hair, and a girdle of skin round his loins, and his nourishment was locusts and honey of the field.

5 Т огава излизаха при него от Йерусалим, цяла Юдея и цялата Йорданска околност

Then were going forth unto him Jerusalem, and all Judea, and all the region round about the Jordan,

6 и се кръщаваха от него в реката Йордан, като изповядваха греховете си.

and they were baptized in the Jordan by him, confessing their sins.

7 А като видя, че мнозина от фарисеите и садукеите идваха да се кръстят от него, им каза: Рожби ехиднини! Кой ви предупреди да бягате от идещия гняв?

And having seen many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming about his baptism, he said to them, `Brood of vipers! who did shew you to flee from the coming wrath?

8 З атова принасяйте плодове, достойни за покаяние;

bear, therefore, fruits worthy of the reformation,

9 и не помисляйте да си казвате: Авраам е нашият баща; защото ви казвам, че Бог може и от тези камъни да издигне чеда на Авраам.

and do not think to say in yourselves, A father we have -- Abraham, for I say to you, that God is able out of these stones to raise children to Abraham,

10 А и брадвата лежи вече при корена на дърветата. И така, всяко дърво, което не дава добър плод, се отсича и се хвърля в огъня.

and now also, the axe unto the root of the trees is laid, every tree therefore not bearing good fruit is hewn down, and to fire is cast.

11 А з ви кръщавам с вода за покаяние; а Онзи, Който идва след мен, е по-силен от мен и не съм достоен да се допра дори до сандалите Му. Той ще ви кръсти със Святия Дух и с огън.

`I indeed do baptize you with water to reformation, but he who after me is coming is mightier than I, of whom I am not worthy to bear the sandals, he shall baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire,

12 Л опатата е в ръката Му и Той здраво ще очисти хармана Си, и ще събере житото Си в житницата, а плявата ще изгори в неугасим огън. Кръщението на Исус Христос

whose fan in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his floor, and will gather his wheat to the storehouse, but the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable.'

13 Т огава дойде Исус от Галилея на Йордан при Йоан, за да бъде кръстен от него.

Then cometh Jesus from Galilee upon the Jordan, unto John to be baptized by him,

14 А Йоан Го възпираше, като Му казваше: Аз имам нужда да бъда кръстен от Теб, а Ти ли идваш при мен?

but John was forbidding him, saying, `I have need by thee to be baptized -- and thou dost come unto me!'

15 А Исус му отговори каза: Остави Ме сега, защото така подобава да изпълним всичко, което е право. Тогава Йоан Го остави.

But Jesus answering said to him, `Suffer now, for thus it is becoming to us to fulfill all righteousness,' then he doth suffer him.

16 И като се кръсти, Исус веднага излезе от водата; и, ето, отвориха Му се небесата и видя, че Божият Дух слиза като гълъб и се спуска на Него;

And having been baptized, Jesus went up immediately from the water, and lo, opened to him were the heavens, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming upon him,

17 и ето глас от небесата, който казваше: Този е възлюбеният Ми Син, в Когото е Моето благоволение.

and lo, a voice out of the heavens, saying, `This is My Son -- the Beloved, in whom I did delight.'
