1 M oreover Yahweh answered Job,

Disse mais o Senhor a Jó:

2 “ Shall he who argues contend with the Almighty? He who argues with God, let him answer it.”

Contenderá contra o Todo-Poderoso o censurador? Quem assim argúi a Deus, responda a estas coisas.

3 T hen Job answered Yahweh,

Então Jó respondeu ao Senhor, e disse:

4 “ Behold, I am of small account. What shall I answer you? I lay my hand on my mouth.

Eis que sou vil; que te responderia eu? Antes ponho a minha mão sobre a boca.

5 I have spoken once, and I will not answer; Yes, twice, but I will proceed no further.”

Uma vez tenho falado, e não replicarei; ou ainda duas vezes, porém não prosseguirei.

6 T hen Yahweh answered Job out of the whirlwind,

Então, do meio do redemoinho, o Senhor respondeu a Jó:

7 “ Now brace yourself like a man. I will question you, and you will answer me.

Cinge agora os teus lombos como homem; eu te perguntarei a ti, e tu me responderás.

8 W ill you even annul my judgment? Will you condemn me, that you may be justified?

Farás tu vão também o meu juízo, ou me condenarás para te justificares a ti?

9 O r do you have an arm like God? Can you thunder with a voice like him?

Ou tens braço como Deus; ou podes trovejar com uma voz como a dele?

10 “ Now deck yourself with excellency and dignity. Array yourself with honor and majesty.

Orna-te, pois, de excelência e dignidade, e veste-te de glória e de esplendor.

11 P our out the fury of your anger. Look at everyone who is proud, and bring him low.

Derrama as inundações da tua ira, e atenta para todo soberbo, e abate-o.

12 L ook at everyone who is proud, and humble him. Crush the wicked in their place.

Olha para todo soberbo, e humilha-o, e calca aos pés os ímpios onde estão.

13 H ide them in the dust together. Bind their faces in the hidden place.

Esconde-os juntamente no pó; ata-lhes os rostos no lugar escondido.

14 T hen I will also admit to you that your own right hand can save you.

Então também eu de ti confessarei que a tua mão direita te poderá salvar.

15 “ See now, behemoth, which I made as well as you. He eats grass as an ox.

Contempla agora o hipopótamo, que eu criei como a ti, que come a erva como o boi.

16 L ook now, his strength is in his thighs. His force is in the muscles of his belly.

Eis que a sua força está nos seus lombos, e o seu poder nos músculos do seu ventre.

17 H e moves his tail like a cedar. The sinews of his thighs are knit together.

Ele enrija a sua cauda como o cedro; os nervos das suas coxas são entretecidos.

18 H is bones are like tubes of brass. His limbs are like bars of iron.

Os seus ossos são como tubos de bronze, as suas costelas como barras de ferro.

19 H e is the chief of the ways of God. He who made him gives him his sword.

Ele é obra prima dos caminhos de Deus; aquele que o fez o proveu da sua espada.

20 S urely the mountains produce food for him, where all the animals of the field play.

Em verdade os montes lhe produzem pasto, onde todos os animais do campo folgam.

21 H e lies under the lotus trees, in the covert of the reed, and the marsh.

Deita-se debaixo dos lotos, no esconderijo dos canaviais e no pântano.

22 T he lotuses cover him with their shade. The willows of the brook surround him.

Os lotos cobrem-no com sua sombra; os salgueiros do ribeiro o cercam.

23 B ehold, if a river overflows, he doesn’t tremble. He is confident, though the Jordan swells even to his mouth.

Eis que se um rio trasborda, ele não treme; sente-se seguro ainda que o Jordão se levante até a sua boca.

24 S hall any take him when he is on the watch, or pierce through his nose with a snare?

Poderá alguém apanhá-lo quando ele estiver de vigia, ou com laços lhe furar o nariz?
