1 T hen Zophar the Naamathite answered,

Então respondeu Zofar, o naamatita:

2 “ Therefore do my thoughts give answer to me, even by reason of my haste that is in me.

Ora, os meus pensamentos me fazem responder, e por isso eu me apresso.

3 I have heard the reproof which puts me to shame. The spirit of my understanding answers me.

Estou ouvindo a tua repreensão, que me envergonha, mas o espírito do meu entendimento responde por mim.

4 D on’t you know this from old time, since man was placed on earth,

Não sabes tu que desde a antigüidade, desde que o homem foi posto sobre a terra,

5 t hat the triumphing of the wicked is short, the joy of the godless but for a moment?

o triunfo dos iníquos é breve, e a alegria dos ímpios é apenas dum momento?

6 T hough his height mount up to the heavens, and his head reach to the clouds,

Ainda que a sua exaltação suba até o ceu, e a sua cabeça chegue até as nuvens,

7 y et he shall perish forever like his own dung. Those who have seen him shall say, ‘Where is he?’

contudo, como o seu próprio esterco, perecerá para sempre; e os que o viam perguntarão: Onde está?

8 H e shall fly away as a dream, and shall not be found. Yes, he shall be chased away like a vision of the night.

Dissipar-se-á como um sonho, e não será achado; será afugentado qual uma visão da noite.

9 T he eye which saw him shall see him no more, neither shall his place any more see him.

Os olhos que o viam não o verão mais, nem o seu lugar o contemplará mais.

10 H is children shall seek the favor of the poor. His hands shall give back his wealth.

Os seus filhos procurarão o favor dos pobres, e as suas mãos restituirão os seus lucros ilícitos.

11 H is bones are full of his youth, but youth shall lie down with him in the dust.

Os seus ossos estão cheios do vigor da sua juventude, mas este se deitará com ele no pó.

12 “ Though wickedness is sweet in his mouth, though he hide it under his tongue,

Ainda que o mal lhe seja doce na boca, ainda que ele o esconda debaixo da sua língua,

13 t hough he spare it, and will not let it go, but keep it still within his mouth;

ainda que não o queira largar, antes o retenha na sua boca,

14 y et his food in his bowels is turned. It is cobra venom within him.

contudo a sua comida se transforma nas suas entranhas; dentro dele se torna em fel de áspides.

15 H e has swallowed down riches, and he shall vomit them up again. God will cast them out of his belly.

Engoliu riquezas, mas vomitá-las-á; do ventre dele Deus as lançará.

16 H e shall suck cobra venom. The viper’s tongue shall kill him.

Veneno de áspides sorverá, língua de víbora o matará.

17 H e shall not look at the rivers, the flowing streams of honey and butter.

Não verá as correntes, os rios e os ribeiros de mel e de manteiga.

18 T hat for which he labored he shall restore, and shall not swallow it down. According to the substance that he has gotten, he shall not rejoice.

O que adquiriu pelo trabalho, isso restituirá, e não o engolirá; não se regozijará conforme a fazenda que ajuntou.

19 F or he has oppressed and forsaken the poor. He has violently taken away a house, and he shall not build it up.

Pois que oprimiu e desamparou os pobres, e roubou a casa que não edificou.

20 “ Because he knew no quietness within him, he shall not save anything of that in which he delights.

Porquanto não houve limite ã sua cobiça, nada salvará daquilo em que se deleita.

21 T here was nothing left that he didn’t devour, therefore his prosperity shall not endure.

Nada escapou ã sua voracidade; pelo que a sua prosperidade não perdurará.

22 I n the fullness of his sufficiency, distress shall overtake him. The hand of everyone who is in misery shall come on him.

Na plenitude da sua abastança, estará angustiado; toda a força da miséria virá sobre ele.

23 W hen he is about to fill his belly, God will cast the fierceness of his wrath on him. It will rain on him while he is eating.

Mesmo estando ele a encher o seu estômago, Deus mandará sobre ele o ardor da sua ira, que fará chover sobre ele quando for comer.

24 H e shall flee from the iron weapon. The bronze arrow shall strike him through.

Ainda que fuja das armas de ferro, o arco de bronze o atravessará.

25 H e draws it out, and it comes out of his body. Yes, the glittering point comes out of his liver. Terrors are on him.

Ele arranca do seu corpo a flecha, que sai resplandecente do seu fel; terrores vêm sobre ele.

26 A ll darkness is laid up for his treasures. An unfanned fire shall devour him. It shall consume that which is left in his tent.

Todas as trevas são reservadas paro os seus tesouros; um fogo não assoprado o consumirá, e devorará o que ficar na sua tenda.

27 T he heavens shall reveal his iniquity. The earth shall rise up against him.

Os céus revelarão a sua iniqüidade, e contra ele a terra se levantará.

28 T he increase of his house shall depart. They shall rush away in the day of his wrath.

As rendas de sua casa ir-se-ão; no dia da ira de Deus todas se derramarão.

29 T his is the portion of a wicked man from God, the heritage appointed to him by God.”

Esta, da parte de Deus, é a porção do ímpio; esta é a herança que Deus lhe reserva.
