1 C ontende, Senhor, com aqueles que contendem comigo; combate contra os que me combatem.

Contend, O Lord, with those who contend with me; Fight against those who fight against me.

2 P ega do escudo e do pavês, e levanta-te em meu socorro.

Take hold of buckler and shield And rise up for my help.

3 T ira da lança e do dardo contra os que me perseguem. Dize ã minha alma: Eu sou a tua salvação.

Draw also the spear and the battle-axe to meet those who pursue me; Say to my soul, “I am your salvation.”

4 S ejam envergonhados e confundidos os que buscam a minha vida; voltem atrás e se confudam os que contra mim intentam o mal.

Let those be ashamed and dishonored who seek my life; Let those be turned back and humiliated who devise evil against me.

5 S ejam como a moinha diante do vento, e o anjo do Senhor os faça fugir.

Let them be like chaff before the wind, With the angel of the Lord driving them on.

6 S eja o seu caminho tenebroso e escorregadio, e o anjo do Senhor os persiga.

Let their way be dark and slippery, With the angel of the Lord pursuing them.

7 P ois sem causa me armaram ocultamente um laço; sem razão cavaram uma cova para a minha vida.

For without cause they hid their net for me; Without cause they dug a pit for my soul.

8 S obrevenha-lhes inesperadamente a destruição, e prenda-os o laço que ocultaram; caiam eles nessa mesma destruição.

Let destruction come upon him unawares, And let the net which he hid catch himself; Into that very destruction let him fall.

9 E ntão minha alma se regozijará no Senhor; exultará na sua salvação.

And my soul shall rejoice in the Lord; It shall exult in His salvation.

10 T odos os meus ossos dirão: Ó Senhor, quem é como tu, que livras o fraco daquele que é mais forte do que ele? sim, o pobre e o necessitado, daquele que o rouba.

All my bones will say, “ Lord, who is like You, Who delivers the afflicted from him who is too strong for him, And the afflicted and the needy from him who robs him?”

11 L evantam-se testemunhas maliciosas; interrogam-me sobre coisas que eu ignoro.

Malicious witnesses rise up; They ask me of things that I do not know.

12 T ornam-me o mal pelo bem, causando-me luto na alma.

They repay me evil for good, To the bereavement of my soul.

13 M as, quanto a mim, estando eles enfermos, vestia-me de cilício, humilhava-me com o jejum, e orava de cabeça sobre o peito.

But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth; I humbled my soul with fasting, And my prayer kept returning to my bosom.

14 P ortava-me como o faria por meu amigo ou meu irmão; eu andava encurvado e lamentando-me, como quem chora por sua mãe.

I went about as though it were my friend or brother; I bowed down mourning, as one who sorrows for a mother.

15 M as, quando eu tropeçava, eles se alegravam e se congregavam; congregavam-se contra mim, homens miseráveis que eu não conhecia; difamavam-me sem cessar.

But at my stumbling they rejoiced and gathered themselves together; The smiters whom I did not know gathered together against me, They slandered me without ceasing.

16 C omo hipócritas zombadores nas festas, rangiam os dentes contra mim.

Like godless jesters at a feast, They gnashed at me with their teeth.

17 Ó Senhor, até quando contemplarás isto? Livra-me das suas violências; salva a minha vida dos leões!

Lord, how long will You look on? Rescue my soul from their ravages, My only life from the lions.

18 E ntão te darei graças na grande assembléia; entre muitíssimo povo te louvarei.

I will give You thanks in the great congregation; I will praise You among a mighty throng.

19 N ão se alegrem sobre mim os que são meus inimigos sem razão, nem pisquem os olhos aqueles que me odeiam sem causa.

Do not let those who are wrongfully my enemies rejoice over me; Nor let those who hate me without cause wink maliciously.

20 P ois não falaram de paz, antes inventam contra os quietos da terra palavras enganosas.

For they do not speak peace, But they devise deceitful words against those who are quiet in the land.

21 E scancararam contra mim a sua boca, e dizem: Ah! Ah! os nossos olhos o viram.

They opened their mouth wide against me; They said, “ Aha, aha, our eyes have seen it!”

22 T u, Senhor, o viste, não te cales; Senhor, não te alongues de mim.

You have seen it, O Lord, do not keep silent; O Lord, do not be far from me.

23 A corda e desperta para o meu julgamento, para a minha causa, Deus meu, e Senhor meu.

Stir up Yourself, and awake to my right And to my cause, my God and my Lord.

24 J ustifica-me segundo a tua justiça, Senhor Deus meu, e não se regozijem eles sobre mim.

Judge me, O Lord my God, according to Your righteousness, And do not let them rejoice over me.

25 N ão digam em seu coração: Eia! cumpriu-se o nosso desejo! Não digam: Nós o havemos devorado.

Do not let them say in their heart, “ Aha, our desire!” Do not let them say, “We have swallowed him up!”

26 E nvergonhem-se e confundam-se ã uma os que se alegram com o meu mal; vistam-se de vergonha e de confusão os que se engrandecem contra mim.

Let those be ashamed and humiliated altogether who rejoice at my distress; Let those be clothed with shame and dishonor who magnify themselves over me.

27 B radem de júbilo e se alegrem os que desejam a minha justificação, e digam a minha justificação, e digam continuamente: Seja engrandecido o Senhor, que se deleita na prosperidade do seu servo.

Let them shout for joy and rejoice, who favor my vindication; And let them say continually, “The Lord be magnified, Who delights in the prosperity of His servant.”

28 E ntão a minha língua falará da tua justiça e do teu louvor o dia todo.

And my tongue shall declare Your righteousness And Your praise all day long.
