1 D efende-me, Senhor, dos que me acusam; luta contra os que lutam comigo.

Contend, O Lord, with those who contend with me; Fight against those who fight against me.

2 T oma os escudos, o grande e o pequeno; levanta-te e vem socorrer-me.

Take hold of buckler and shield And rise up for my help.

3 E mpunha a lança e o machado de guerra contra os meus perseguidores. Dize à minha alma: “Eu sou a sua salvação”.

Draw also the spear and the battle-axe to meet those who pursue me; Say to my soul, “I am your salvation.”

4 S ejam humilhados e desprezados os que procuram matar-me; retrocedam envergonhados aqueles que tramam a minha ruína.

Let those be ashamed and dishonored who seek my life; Let those be turned back and humiliated who devise evil against me.

5 Q ue eles sejam como a palha ao vento, quando o anjo do Senhor os expulsar;

Let them be like chaff before the wind, With the angel of the Lord driving them on.

6 s eja a vereda deles sombria e escorregadia, quando o anjo do Senhor os perseguir.

Let their way be dark and slippery, With the angel of the Lord pursuing them.

7 J á que, sem motivo, prepararam contra mim uma armadilha oculta e, sem motivo, abriram uma cova para mim,

For without cause they hid their net for me; Without cause they dug a pit for my soul.

8 q ue a ruína lhes sobrevenha de surpresa: sejam presos pela armadilha que prepararam, caiam na cova que abriram, para a sua própria ruína.

Let destruction come upon him unawares, And let the net which he hid catch himself; Into that very destruction let him fall.

9 E ntão a minha alma exultará no Senhor e se regozijará na sua salvação.

And my soul shall rejoice in the Lord; It shall exult in His salvation.

10 T odo o meu ser exclamará: Quem se compara a ti, Senhor ? Tu livras os necessitados daqueles que são mais poderosos do que eles, livras os necessitados e os pobres daqueles que os exploram.

All my bones will say, “ Lord, who is like You, Who delivers the afflicted from him who is too strong for him, And the afflicted and the needy from him who robs him?”

11 T estemunhas maldosas enfrentam-me e questionam-me sobre coisas de que nada sei.

Malicious witnesses rise up; They ask me of things that I do not know.

12 E las me retribuem o bem com o mal e procuram tirar-me a vida.

They repay me evil for good, To the bereavement of my soul.

13 C ontudo, quando estavam doentes, usei vestes de lamento, humilhei-me com jejum e recolhi-me em oração.

But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth; I humbled my soul with fasting, And my prayer kept returning to my bosom.

14 S aí vagueando e pranteando, como por um amigo ou por um irmão. Eu me prostrei enlutado, como quem lamenta por sua mãe.

I went about as though it were my friend or brother; I bowed down mourning, as one who sorrows for a mother.

15 M as, quando tropecei, eles se reuniram alegres; sem que eu o soubesse, ajuntaram-se para me atacar. Eles me agrediram sem cessar.

But at my stumbling they rejoiced and gathered themselves together; The smiters whom I did not know gathered together against me, They slandered me without ceasing.

16 C omo ímpios caçoando do meu refúgio, rosnaram contra mim.

Like godless jesters at a feast, They gnashed at me with their teeth.

17 S enhor, até quando ficarás olhando? Livra-me dos ataques deles, livra a minha vida preciosa desses leões.

Lord, how long will You look on? Rescue my soul from their ravages, My only life from the lions.

18 E u te darei graças na grande assembléia; no meio da grande multidão te louvarei.

I will give You thanks in the great congregation; I will praise You among a mighty throng.

19 N ão deixes que os meus inimigos traiçoeiros se divirtam à minha custa; não permitas que aqueles que sem razão me odeiam troquem olhares de desprezo.

Do not let those who are wrongfully my enemies rejoice over me; Nor let those who hate me without cause wink maliciously.

20 N ão falam pacificamente, mas planejam acusações falsas contra os que vivem tranqüilamente na terra.

For they do not speak peace, But they devise deceitful words against those who are quiet in the land.

21 C om a boca escancarada, riem de mim e me acusam: “Nós vimos! Sabemos de tudo!”

They opened their mouth wide against me; They said, “ Aha, aha, our eyes have seen it!”

22 T u viste isso, Senhor! Não fiques calado. Não te afastes de mim, Senhor,

You have seen it, O Lord, do not keep silent; O Lord, do not be far from me.

23 A corda! Desperta! Faze-me justiça! Defende a minha causa, meu Deus e Senhor.

Stir up Yourself, and awake to my right And to my cause, my God and my Lord.

24 S enhor, meu Deus, tu és justo; faze-me justiça para que eles não se alegrem à minha custa.

Judge me, O Lord my God, according to Your righteousness, And do not let them rejoice over me.

25 N ão deixes que pensem: “Ah! Era isso que queríamos!”, nem que digam: “Acabamos com ele!”

Do not let them say in their heart, “ Aha, our desire!” Do not let them say, “We have swallowed him up!”

26 S ejam humilhados e frustrados todos os que se divertem à custa do meu sofrimento; cubram-se de vergonha e desonra todos os que se acham superiores a mim.

Let those be ashamed and humiliated altogether who rejoice at my distress; Let those be clothed with shame and dishonor who magnify themselves over me.

27 C antem de alegria e regozijo todos os que desejam ver provada a minha inocência, e sempre repitam: “O Senhor seja engrandecido! Ele tem prazer no bem-estar do seu servo”.

Let them shout for joy and rejoice, who favor my vindication; And let them say continually, “The Lord be magnified, Who delights in the prosperity of His servant.”

28 M inha língua proclamará a tua justiça e o teu louvor o dia inteiro.

And my tongue shall declare Your righteousness And Your praise all day long.
