1 “ Levante um lamento pelos príncipes de Israel

“As for you, take up a lamentation for the princes of Israel

2 e diga: “Que leoa foi sua mãe entre os leões! Ela se deitava entre os leõezinhos e criava os seus filhotes.

and say, ‘ What was your mother? A lioness among lions! She lay down among young lions, She reared her cubs.

3 U m dos seus filhotes tornou-se um leão forte. Ele aprendeu a despedaçar a presa e devorou homens.

‘When she brought up one of her cubs, He became a lion, And he learned to tear his prey; He devoured men.

4 A s nações ouviram a seu respeito, e ele foi pego na cova delas. Elas o levaram com ganchos para o Egito.

‘Then nations heard about him; He was captured in their pit, And they brought him with hooks To the land of Egypt.

5 “ Quando ela viu que a sua esperança não se cumpria, quando viu que se fora a sua expectativa, escolheu outro de seus filhotes e fez dele um leão forte.

‘When she saw, as she waited, That her hope was lost, She took another of her cubs And made him a young lion.

6 E le vagueou entre os leões, pois agora era um leão forte. Ele aprendeu a despedaçar a presa e devorou homens.

‘And he walked about among the lions; He became a young lion, He learned to tear his prey; He devoured men.

7 A rrebentou suas fortalezas e devastou suas cidades. A terra e todos que nela estavam ficaram aterrorizados com o seu rugido.

‘He destroyed their fortified towers And laid waste their cities; And the land and its fullness were appalled Because of the sound of his roaring.

8 E ntão as nações vizinhas o atacaram. Estenderam sua rede para apanhá-lo, e ele foi pego na armadilha que fizeram.

‘Then nations set against him On every side from their provinces, And they spread their net over him; He was captured in their pit.

9 C om ganchos elas o puxaram para dentro de uma jaula e o levaram ao rei da Babilônia. Elas o colocaram na prisão, de modo que não se ouviu mais o seu rugido nos montes de Israel.

‘ They put him in a cage with hooks And brought him to the king of Babylon; They brought him in hunting nets So that his voice would be heard no more On the mountains of Israel.

10 “ Sua mãe era como uma vide em sua vinha plantada junto à água; era frutífera e cheia de ramos, graças às muitas águas.

‘Your mother was like a vine in your vineyard, Planted by the waters; It was fruitful and full of branches Because of abundant waters.

11 S eus ramos eram fortes, próprios para o cetro de um governante. Ela cresceu e subiu muito, sobressaindo à folhagem espessa; chamava a atenção por sua altura e por seus muitos ramos.

‘And it had strong branches fit for scepters of rulers, And its height was raised above the clouds So that it was seen in its height with the mass of its branches.

12 M as foi desarraigada com fúria e atirada ao chão. O vento oriental a fez murchar, seus frutos foram arrancados, seus fortes galhos secaram e o fogo os consumiu.

‘But it was plucked up in fury; It was cast down to the ground; And the east wind dried up its fruit. Its strong branch was torn off So that it withered; The fire consumed it.

13 A gora está plantada no deserto, numa terra seca e sedenta.

‘And now it is planted in the wilderness, In a dry and thirsty land.

14 O fogo espalhou-se de um dos seus ramos principais e consumiu toda a ramagem. Nela não resta nenhum ramo forte que seja próprio para o cetro de um governante. Esse é um lamento e como lamento deverá ser empregado”.

‘And fire has gone out from its branch; It has consumed its shoots and fruit, So that there is not in it a strong branch, A scepter to rule.’” This is a lamentation, and has become a lamentation.
