1 A lgum tempo depois, Jesus subiu a Jerusalém para uma festa dos judeus.

After these things there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

2 H á em Jerusalém, perto da porta das Ovelhas, um tanque que, em aramaico, é chamado Betesda, tendo cinco entradas em volta.

Now there is in Jerusalem by the sheep gate a pool, which is called in Hebrew Bethesda, having five porticoes.

3 A li costumava ficar grande número de pessoas doentes e inválidas: cegos, mancos e paralíticos. Eles esperavam um movimento nas águas.

In these lay a multitude of those who were sick, blind, lame, and withered, '> waiting for the moving of the waters;

4 D e vez em quando descia um anjo do Senhor e agitava as águas. O primeiro que entrasse no tanque, depois de agitadas as águas, era curado de qualquer doença que tivesse.

for an angel of the Lord went down at certain seasons into the pool and stirred up the water; whoever then first, after the stirring up of the water, stepped in was made well from whatever disease with which he was afflicted.]

5 U m dos que estavam ali era paralítico fazia trinta e oito anos.

A man was there who had been ill for thirty-eight years.

6 Q uando o viu deitado e soube que ele vivia naquele estado durante tanto tempo, Jesus lhe perguntou: “Você quer ser curado?”

When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he had already been a long time in that condition, He said to him, “Do you wish to get well?”

7 D isse o paralítico: “Senhor, não tenho ninguém que me ajude a entrar no tanque quando a água é agitada. Enquanto estou tentando entrar, outro chega antes de mim”.

The sick man answered Him, “Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up, but while I am coming, another steps down before me.”

8 E ntão Jesus lhe disse: “Levante-se! Pegue a sua maca e ande”.

Jesus said to him, “ Get up, pick up your pallet and walk.”

9 I mediatamente o homem ficou curado, pegou a maca e começou a andar. Isso aconteceu num sábado,

Immediately the man became well, and picked up his pallet and began to walk. Now it was the Sabbath on that day.

10 e , por essa razão, os judeus disseram ao homem que havia sido curado: “Hoje é sábado, não lhe é permitido carregar a maca”.

So the Jews were saying to the man who was cured, “It is the Sabbath, and it is not permissible for you to carry your pallet.”

11 M as ele respondeu: “O homem que me curou me disse: ‘Pegue a sua maca e ande’”.

But he answered them, “He who made me well was the one who said to me, ‘Pick up your pallet and walk.’ ”

12 E ntão lhe perguntaram: “Quem é esse homem que lhe mandou pegar a maca e andar?”

They asked him, “Who is the man who said to you, ‘Pick up your pallet and walk’ ?”

13 O homem que fora curado não tinha idéia de quem era ele, pois Jesus havia desaparecido no meio da multidão.

But the man who was healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had slipped away while there was a crowd in that place.

14 M ais tarde Jesus o encontrou no templo e lhe disse: “Olhe, você está curado. Não volte a pecar, para que algo pior não lhe aconteça”.

Afterward Jesus found him in the temple and said to him, “Behold, you have become well; do not sin anymore, so that nothing worse happens to you.”

15 O homem foi contar aos judeus que fora Jesus quem o tinha curado. Vida por meio do Filho

The man went away, and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well.

16 E ntão os judeus passaram a perseguir Jesus, porque ele estava fazendo essas coisas no sábado.

For this reason the Jews were persecuting Jesus, because He was doing these things on the Sabbath.

17 D isse-lhes Jesus: “Meu Pai continua trabalhando até hoje, e eu também estou trabalhando”.

But He answered them, “My Father is working until now, and I Myself am working.” Jesus’ Equality with God

18 P or essa razão, os judeus mais ainda queriam matá-lo, pois não somente estava violando o sábado, mas também estava dizendo que Deus era seu próprio Pai, igualando-se a Deus.

For this reason therefore the Jews were seeking all the more to kill Him, because He not only was breaking the Sabbath, but also was calling God His own Father, making Himself equal with God.

19 J esus lhes deu esta resposta: “Eu lhes digo verdadeiramente que o Filho não pode fazer nada de si mesmo; só pode fazer o que vê o Pai fazer, porque o que o Pai faz o Filho também faz.

Therefore Jesus answered and was saying to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, unless it is something He sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, these things the Son also does in like manner.

20 P ois o Pai ama ao Filho e lhe mostra tudo o que faz. Sim, para admiração de vocês, ele lhe mostrará obras ainda maiores do que estas.

For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself is doing; and the Father will show Him greater works than these, so that you will marvel.

21 P ois, da mesma forma que o Pai ressuscita os mortos e lhes dá vida, o Filho também dá vida a quem ele quer.

For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son also gives life to whom He wishes.

22 A lém disso, o Pai a ninguém julga, mas confiou todo julgamento ao Filho,

For not even the Father judges anyone, but He has given all judgment to the Son,

23 p ara que todos honrem o Filho como honram o Pai. Aquele que não honra o Filho, também não honra o Pai que o enviou.

so that all will honor the Son even as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.

24 “ Eu lhes asseguro: Quem ouve a minha palavra e crê naquele que me enviou, tem a vida eterna e não será condenado, mas já passou da morte para a vida.

“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life. Two Resurrections

25 E u lhes afirmo que está chegando a hora, e já chegou, em que os mortos ouvirão a voz do Filho de Deus, e aqueles que a ouvirem, viverão.

Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live.

26 P ois, da mesma forma como o Pai tem vida em si mesmo, ele concedeu ao Filho ter vida em si mesmo.

For just as the Father has life in Himself, even so He gave to the Son also to have life in Himself;

27 E deu-lhe autoridade para julgar, porque é o Filho do homem.

and He gave Him authority to execute judgment, because He is the Son of Man.

28 “ Não fiquem admirados com isto, pois está chegando a hora em que todos os que estiverem nos túmulos ouvirão a sua voz

Do not marvel at this; for an hour is coming, in which all who are in the tombs will hear His voice,

29 e sairão; os que fizeram o bem ressuscitarão para a vida, e os que fizeram o mal ressuscitarão para serem condenados.

and will come forth; those who did the good deeds to a resurrection of life, those who committed the evil deeds to a resurrection of judgment.

30 P or mim mesmo, nada posso fazer; eu julgo apenas conforme ouço, e o meu julgamento é justo, pois não procuro agradar a mim mesmo, mas àquele que me enviou. Testemunhos acerca de Jesus

“ I can do nothing on My own initiative. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is just, because I do not seek My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.

31 “ Se testifico acerca de mim mesmo, o meu testemunho não é válido.

“ If I alone testify about Myself, My testimony is not true.

32 H á outro que testemunha em meu favor, e sei que o seu testemunho a meu respeito é válido.

There is another who testifies of Me, and I know that the testimony which He gives about Me is true. Witness of John

33 “ Vocês enviaram representantes a João, e ele testemunhou da verdade.

You have sent to John, and he has testified to the truth.

34 N ão que eu busque testemunho humano, mas menciono isso para que vocês sejam salvos.

But the testimony which I receive is not from man, but I say these things so that you may be saved.

35 J oão era uma candeia que queimava e irradiava luz, e durante certo tempo vocês quiseram alegrar-se com a sua luz.

He was the lamp that was burning and was shining and you were willing to rejoice for a while in his light. Witness of Works

36 “ Eu tenho um testemunho maior que o de João; a própria obra que o Pai me deu para concluir, e que estou realizando, testemunha que o Pai me enviou.

But the testimony which I have is greater than the testimony of John; for the works which the Father has given Me to accomplish—the very works that I do—testify about Me, that the Father has sent Me. Witness of the Father

37 E o Pai que me enviou, ele mesmo testemunhou a meu respeito. Vocês nunca ouviram a sua voz, nem viram a sua forma,

And the Father who sent Me, He has testified of Me. You have neither heard His voice at any time nor seen His form.

38 n em a sua palavra habita em vocês, pois não crêem naquele que ele enviou.

You do not have His word abiding in you, for you do not believe Him whom He sent. Witness of the Scripture

39 V ocês estudam cuidadosamente as Escrituras, porque pensam que nelas vocês têm a vida eterna. E são as Escrituras que testemunham a meu respeito;

You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; it is these that testify about Me;

40 c ontudo, vocês não querem vir a mim para terem vida.

and you are unwilling to come to Me so that you may have life.

41 “ Eu não aceito glória dos homens,

I do not receive glory from men;

42 m as conheço vocês. Sei que vocês não têm o amor de Deus.

but I know you, that you do not have the love of God in yourselves.

43 E u vim em nome de meu Pai, e vocês não me aceitaram; mas, se outro vier em seu próprio nome, vocês o aceitarão.

I have come in My Father’s name, and you do not receive Me; if another comes in his own name, you will receive him.

44 C omo vocês podem crer, se aceitam glória uns dos outros, mas não procuram a glória que vem do Deus único?

How can you believe, when you receive glory from one another and you do not seek the glory that is from the one and only God?

45 “ Contudo, não pensem que eu os acusarei perante o Pai. Quem os acusa é Moisés, em quem estão as suas esperanças.

Do not think that I will accuse you before the Father; the one who accuses you is Moses, in whom you have set your hope.

46 S e vocês cressem em Moisés, creriam em mim, pois ele escreveu a meu respeito.

For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me, for he wrote about Me.

47 V isto, porém, que não crêem no que ele escreveu, como crerão no que eu digo?”

But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words?”
