You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.

2 E as palavras que me ouviu dizer na presença de muitas testemunhas, confie-as a homens fiéis que sejam também capazes de ensinar outros.

The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.

3 S uporte comigo os meus sofrimentos, como bom soldado de Cristo Jesus.

Suffer hardship with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.

4 N enhum soldado se deixa envolver pelos negócios da vida civil, já que deseja agradar aquele que o alistou.

No soldier in active service entangles himself in the affairs of everyday life, so that he may please the one who enlisted him as a soldier.

5 S emelhantemente, nenhum atleta é coroado como vencedor, se não competir de acordo com as regras.

Also if anyone competes as an athlete, he does not win the prize unless he competes according to the rules.

6 O lavrador que trabalha arduamente deve ser o primeiro a participar dos frutos da colheita.

The hard-working farmer ought to be the first to receive his share of the crops.

7 R eflita no que estou dizendo, pois o Senhor lhe dará entendimento em tudo.

Consider what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in everything.

8 L embre-se de Jesus Cristo, ressuscitado dos mortos, descendente de Davi, conforme o meu evangelho,

Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, descendant of David, according to my gospel,

9 p elo qual sofro e até estou preso como criminoso; contudo a palavra de Deus não está presa.

for which I suffer hardship even to imprisonment as a criminal; but the word of God is not imprisoned.

10 P or isso, tudo suporto por causa dos eleitos, para que também eles alcancem a salvação que está em Cristo Jesus, com glória eterna.

For this reason I endure all things for the sake of those who are chosen, so that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus and with it eternal glory.

11 E sta palavra é digna de confiança: Se morremos com ele, com ele também viveremos;

It is a trustworthy statement: For if we died with Him, we will also live with Him;

12 s e perseveramos, com ele também reinaremos. Se o negamos, ele também nos negará;

If we endure, we will also reign with Him; If we deny Him, He also will deny us;

13 s e somos infiéis, ele permanece fiel, pois não pode negar-se a si mesmo. O Obreiro Aprovado por Deus

If we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself. An Unashamed Workman

14 C ontinue a lembrar essas coisas a todos, advertindo-os solenemente diante de Deus, para que não se envolvam em discussões acerca de palavras; isso não traz proveito, e serve apenas para perverter os ouvintes.

Remind them of these things, and solemnly charge them in the presence of God not to wrangle about words, which is useless and leads to the ruin of the hearers.

15 P rocure apresentar-se a Deus aprovado, como obreiro que não tem do que se envergonhar e que maneja corretamente a palavra da verdade.

Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.

16 E vite as conversas inúteis e profanas, pois os que se dão a isso prosseguem cada vez mais para a impiedade.

But avoid worldly and empty chatter, for it will lead to further ungodliness,

17 O ensino deles alastra-se como câncer; entre eles estão Himeneu e Fileto.

and their talk will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus,

18 E stes se desviaram da verdade, dizendo que a ressurreição já aconteceu, e assim a alguns pervertem a fé.

men who have gone astray from the truth saying that the resurrection has already taken place, and they upset the faith of some.

19 E ntretanto, o firme fundamento de Deus permanece inabalável e selado com esta inscrição: “O Senhor conhece quem lhe pertence” e “afaste-se da iniqüidade todo aquele que confessa o nome do Senhor”.

Nevertheless, the firm foundation of God stands, having this seal, “ The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “ Everyone who names the name of the Lord is to abstain from wickedness.”

20 N uma grande casa há vasos não apenas de ouro e prata, mas também de madeira e barro; alguns para fins honrosos, outros para fins desonrosos.

Now in a large house there are not only gold and silver vessels, but also vessels of wood and of earthenware, and some to honor and some to dishonor.

21 S e alguém se purificar dessas coisas, será vaso para honra, santificado, útil para o Senhor e preparado para toda boa obra.

Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from these things, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified, useful to the Master, prepared for every good work.

22 F uja dos desejos malignos da juventude e siga a justiça, a fé, o amor e a paz, com aqueles que, de coração puro, invocam o Senhor.

Now flee from youthful lusts and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.

23 E vite as controvérsias tolas e inúteis, pois você sabe que acabam em brigas.

But refuse foolish and ignorant speculations, knowing that they produce quarrels.

24 A o servo do Senhor não convém brigar mas, sim, ser amável para com todos, apto para ensinar, paciente.

The Lord’s bond-servant must not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all, able to teach, patient when wronged,

25 D eve corrigir com mansidão os que se lhe opõem, na esperança de que Deus lhes conceda o arrependimento, levando-os ao conhecimento da verdade,

with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, if perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth,

26 p ara que assim voltem à sobriedade e escapem da armadilha do Diabo, que os aprisionou para fazerem a sua vontade.

and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, having been held captive by him to do his will.
