1 C erto dia, quando Jesus estava ensinando o povo no templo e pregando as boas novas, chegaram-se a ele os chefes dos sacerdotes, os mestres da lei e os líderes religiosos,

On one of the days while He was teaching the people in the temple and preaching the gospel, the chief priests and the scribes with the elders confronted Him,

2 e lhe perguntaram: “Com que autoridade estás fazendo estas coisas? Quem te deu esta autoridade?”

and they spoke, saying to Him, “Tell us by what authority You are doing these things, or who is the one who gave You this authority?”

3 E le respondeu: “Eu também lhes farei uma pergunta; digam-me:

Jesus answered and said to them, “I will also ask you a question, and you tell Me:

4 O batismo de João era do céu, ou dos homens?”

Was the baptism of John from heaven or from men?”

5 E les discutiam entre si, dizendo: “Se dissermos: Do céu, ele perguntará: ‘Então por que vocês não creram nele?’

They reasoned among themselves, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ He will say, ‘Why did you not believe him?’

6 M as se dissermos: Dos homens, todo o povo nos apedrejará, porque convencidos estão de que João era um profeta”.

But if we say, ‘From men,’ all the people will stone us to death, for they are convinced that John was a prophet.”

7 P or isso responderam: “Não sabemos de onde era”.

So they answered that they did not know where it came from.

8 D isse então Jesus: “Tampouco lhes direi com que autoridade estou fazendo estas coisas”. A Parábola dos Lavradores

And Jesus said to them, “Nor will I tell you by what authority I do these things.” Parable of the Vine-growers

9 E ntão Jesus passou a contar ao povo esta parábola: “Certo homem plantou uma vinha, arrendou-a a alguns lavradores e ausentou-se por longo tempo.

And He began to tell the people this parable: “A man planted a vineyard and rented it out to vine-growers, and went on a journey for a long time.

10 N a época da colheita, ele enviou um servo aos lavradores, para que lhe entregassem parte do fruto da vinha. Mas os lavradores o espancaram e o mandaram embora de mãos vazias.

At the harvest time he sent a slave to the vine-growers, so that they would give him some of the produce of the vineyard; but the vine-growers beat him and sent him away empty-handed.

11 E le mandou outro servo, mas a esse também espancaram e o trataram de maneira humilhante, mandando-o embora de mãos vazias.

And he proceeded to send another slave; and they beat him also and treated him shamefully and sent him away empty-handed.

12 E nviou ainda um terceiro, e eles o feriram e o expulsaram da vinha.

And he proceeded to send a third; and this one also they wounded and cast out.

13 “ Então o proprietário da vinha disse: ‘Que farei? Mandarei meu filho amado; quem sabe o respeitarão’.

The owner of the vineyard said, ‘What shall I do? I will send my beloved son; perhaps they will respect him.’

14 “ Mas quando os lavradores o viram, combinaram entre si dizendo: ‘Este é o herdeiro. Vamos matá-lo, e a herança será nossa’.

But when the vine-growers saw him, they reasoned with one another, saying, ‘This is the heir; let us kill him so that the inheritance will be ours.’

15 A ssim, lançaram-no fora da vinha e o mataram. “O que lhes fará então o dono da vinha?

So they threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. What, then, will the owner of the vineyard do to them?

16 V irá, matará aqueles lavradores e dará a vinha a outros”. Quando o povo ouviu isso, disse: “Que isso nunca aconteça!”

He will come and destroy these vine-growers and will give the vineyard to others.” When they heard it, they said, “ May it never be!”

17 J esus olhou fixamente para eles e perguntou: “Então, qual é o significado do que está escrito? ‘A pedra que os construtores rejeitaram tornou-se a pedra angular.’

But Jesus looked at them and said, “What then is this that is written: ‘ The stone which the builders rejected, This became the chief corner stone ’?

18 T odo o que cair sobre esta pedra será despedaçado, e aquele sobre quem ela cair será reduzido a pó”.

Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces; but on whomever it falls, it will scatter him like dust.” Tribute to Caesar

19 O s mestres da lei e os chefes dos sacerdotes procuravam uma forma de prendê-lo imediatamente, pois perceberam que era contra eles que ele havia contado essa parábola. Todavia tinham medo do povo. O Pagamento de Imposto a César

The scribes and the chief priests tried to lay hands on Him that very hour, and they feared the people; for they understood that He spoke this parable against them.

20 P ondo-se a vigiá-lo, eles mandaram espiões que se fingiam justos para apanhar Jesus em alguma coisa que ele dissesse, de forma que o pudessem entregar ao poder e à autoridade do governador.

So they watched Him, and sent spies who pretended to be righteous, in order that they might catch Him in some statement, so that they could deliver Him to the rule and the authority of the governor.

21 A ssim, os espiões lhe perguntaram: “Mestre, sabemos que falas e ensinas o que é correto, e que não mostras parcialidade, mas ensinas o caminho de Deus conforme a verdade.

They questioned Him, saying, “Teacher, we know that You speak and teach correctly, and You are not partial to any, but teach the way of God in truth.

22 É certo pagar imposto a César ou não?”

Is it lawful for us to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?”

23 E le percebeu a astúcia deles e lhes disse:

But He detected their trickery and said to them,

24 “ Mostrem-me um denário. De quem é a imagem e a inscrição que há nele?”

“Show Me a denarius. Whose likeness and inscription does it have?” They said, “Caesar’s.”

25 “ De César”, responderam eles. Ele lhes disse: “Portanto, dêem a César o que é de César, e a Deus o que é de Deus”.

And He said to them, “Then render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”

26 E não conseguiram apanhá-lo em nenhuma palavra diante do povo. Admirados com a sua resposta, ficaram em silêncio. A Realidade da Ressurreição

And they were unable to catch Him in a saying in the presence of the people; and being amazed at His answer, they became silent. Is There a Resurrection?

27 A lguns dos saduceus, que dizem que não há ressurreição, aproximaram-se de Jesus com a seguinte questão:

Now there came to Him some of the Sadducees (who say that there is no resurrection),

28 “ Mestre”, disseram eles, “Moisés nos deixou escrito que, se o irmão de um homem morrer e deixar a mulher sem filhos, este deverá casar-se com a viúva e ter filhos para seu irmão.

and they questioned Him, saying, “Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies, having a wife, and he is childless, his brother should marry the wife and raise up children to his brother.

29 H avia sete irmãos. O primeiro casou-se e morreu sem deixar filhos.

Now there were seven brothers; and the first took a wife and died childless;

30 O segundo

and the second

31 e o terceiro e depois também os outros casaram-se com ela; e morreram os sete sucessivamente, sem deixar filhos.

and the third married her; and in the same way all seven died, leaving no children.

32 F inalmente morreu também a mulher.

Finally the woman died also.

33 N a ressurreição, de quem ela será esposa, visto que os sete foram casados com ela?”

In the resurrection therefore, which one’s wife will she be? For all seven had married her.”

34 J esus respondeu: “Os filhos desta era casam-se e são dados em casamento,

Jesus said to them, “The sons of this age marry and are given in marriage,

35 m as os que forem considerados dignos de tomar parte na era que há de vir e na ressurreição dos mortos não se casarão nem serão dados em casamento,

but those who are considered worthy to attain to that age and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry nor are given in marriage;

36 e não podem mais morrer, pois são como os anjos. São filhos de Deus, visto que são filhos da ressurreição.

for they cannot even die anymore, because they are like angels, and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection.

37 E que os mortos ressuscitam, já Moisés mostrou, no relato da sarça, quando ao Senhor ele chama ‘Deus de Abraão, Deus de Isaque e Deus de Jacó’.

But that the dead are raised, even Moses showed, in the passage about the burning bush, where he calls the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.

38 E le não é Deus de mortos, mas de vivos, pois para ele todos vivem”.

Now He is not the God of the dead but of the living; for all live to Him.”

39 A lguns dos mestres da lei disseram: “Respondeste bem, Mestre!”

Some of the scribes answered and said, “Teacher, You have spoken well.”

40 E ninguém mais ousava fazer-lhe perguntas. O Cristo é Senhor de Davi

For they did not have courage to question Him any longer about anything.

41 E ntão Jesus lhes perguntou: “Como dizem que o Cristo é Filho de Davi?

Then He said to them, “How is it that they say the Christ is David’s son?

42 “ O próprio Davi afirma no Livro de Salmos: “‘O Senhor disse ao meu Senhor: Senta-te à minha direita

For David himself says in the book of Psalms, ‘ The Lord said to my Lord, “ Sit at My right hand,

43 a té que eu ponha os teus inimigos como estrado para os teus pés’.

Until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet.”’

44 P ortanto Davi o chama ‘Senhor’. Então, como é que ele pode ser seu filho?”

Therefore David calls Him ‘Lord,’ and how is He his son?”

45 E stando todo o povo a ouvi-lo, Jesus disse aos seus discípulos:

And while all the people were listening, He said to the disciples,

46 “ Cuidado com os mestres da lei. Eles fazem questão de andar com roupas especiais, e gostam muito de receber saudações nas praças e de ocupar os lugares mais importantes nas sinagogas e os lugares de honra nos banquetes.

“Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes, and love respectful greetings in the market places, and chief seats in the synagogues and places of honor at banquets,

47 E les devoram as casas das viúvas, e, para disfarçar, fazem longas orações. Esses homens serão punidos com maior rigor!”

who devour widows’ houses, and for appearance’s sake offer long prayers. These will receive greater condemnation.”
