1 N o segundo ano do reinado de Jeoás, filho de Jeoacaz, rei de Israel, Amazias, filho de Joás, rei de Judá, começou a reinar.

In the second year of Joash son of Joahaz king of Israel, Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah became king.

2 E le tinha vinte e cinco anos de idade quando começou a reinar, e reinou vinte e nove anos em Jerusalém. O nome de sua mãe era Jeoadã; ela era de Jerusalém.

He was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Jehoaddin of Jerusalem.

3 E le fez o que o Senhor aprova, mas não como Davi, seu predecessor. Em tudo seguiu o exemplo do seu pai Joás.

He did right in the sight of the Lord, yet not like David his father; he did according to all that Joash his father had done.

4 M as os altares não foram derrubados; o povo continuava a oferecer sacrifícios e a queimar incenso neles.

Only the high places were not taken away; the people still sacrificed and burned incense on the high places.

5 Q uando Amazias sentiu que tinha o reino sob pleno controle, mandou executar os oficiais que haviam assassinado o rei, seu pai.

Now it came about, as soon as the kingdom was firmly in his hand, that he killed his servants who had slain the king his father.

6 C ontudo, não matou os filhos dos assassinos, de acordo com o que está escrito no Livro da Lei de Moisés, onde o Senhor ordenou: “Os pais não morrerão no lugar dos filhos, nem os filhos no lugar dos pais; cada um morrerá pelo seu próprio pecado”.

But the sons of the slayers he did not put to death, according to what is written in the book of the Law of Moses, as the Lord commanded, saying, “ The fathers shall not be put to death for the sons, nor the sons be put to death for the fathers; but each shall be put to death for his own sin.”

7 F oi ele que derrotou dez mil edomitas no vale do Sal e conquistou a cidade de Selá em combate, dando-lhe o nome de Jocteel, nome que tem até hoje.

8 E ntão Amazias enviou mensageiros a Jeoás, filho de Jeoacaz e neto de Jeú, rei de Israel, com este desafio: “Venha me enfrentar”.

Then Amaziah sent messengers to Jehoash, the son of Jehoahaz son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, “ Come, let us face each other.”

9 J eoás, porém, respondeu a Amazias: “O espinheiro do Líbano enviou uma mensagem ao cedro do Líbano: ‘Dê sua filha em casamento a meu filho’. Mas um animal selvagem do Líbano veio e pisoteou o espinheiro.

Jehoash king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, “ The thorn bush which was in Lebanon sent to the cedar which was in Lebanon, saying, ‘Give your daughter to my son in marriage.’ But there passed by a wild beast that was in Lebanon, and trampled the thorn bush.

10 D e fato, você derrotou Edom e agora está arrogante. Comemore a sua vitória, mas fique em casa! Por que provocar uma desgraça que levará você e também Judá à ruína?”

You have indeed defeated Edom, and your heart has become proud. Enjoy your glory and stay at home; for why should you provoke trouble so that you, even you, would fall, and Judah with you?”

11 A mazias não quis ouvi-lo, e Jeoás, rei de Israel, o atacou. Ele e Amazias, rei de Judá, enfrentaram-se em Bete-Semes, em Judá.

But Amaziah would not listen. So Jehoash king of Israel went up; and he and Amaziah king of Judah faced each other at Beth-shemesh, which belongs to Judah.

12 J udá foi derrotado por Israel, e seus soldados fugiram para as suas casas.

Judah was defeated by Israel, and they fled each to his tent.

13 J eoás capturou Amazias, filho de Joás e neto de Acazias, em Bete-Semes. Então Jeoás foi a Jerusalém e derrubou cento e oitenta metros do muro da cidade, desde a porta de Efraim até a porta da Esquina.

Then Jehoash king of Israel captured Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Jehoash the son of Ahaziah, at Beth-shemesh, and came to Jerusalem and tore down the wall of Jerusalem from the Gate of Ephraim to the Corner Gate, 400 cubits.

14 E le se apoderou de todo o ouro, de toda a prata e de todos os utensílios encontrados no templo do Senhor e nos depósitos do palácio real. Também fez reféns e, então, voltou para Samaria.

He took all the gold and silver and all the utensils which were found in the house of the Lord, and in the treasuries of the king’s house, the hostages also, and returned to Samaria. Jeroboam II Succeeds Jehoash in Israel

Now the rest of the acts of Jehoash which he did, and his might and how he fought with Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?

16 J eoás descansou com seus antepassados e foi sepultado com os reis de Israel em Samaria. E seu filho Jeroboão foi o seu sucessor.

So Jehoash slept with his fathers and was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel; and Jeroboam his son became king in his place. Azariah (Uzziah) Succeeds Amaziah in Judah

17 A mazias, filho de Joás, rei de Judá, viveu ainda mais quinze anos depois da morte de Jeoás, filho de Jeoacaz, rei de Israel.

Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah lived fifteen years after the death of Jehoash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel.

18 O s demais acontecimentos do reinado de Amazias estão escritos nos registros históricos dos reis de Judá.

Now the rest of the acts of Amaziah, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?

19 V ítima de uma conspiração em Jerusalém, ele fugiu para Láquis, mas o perseguiram até lá e o mataram.

They conspired against him in Jerusalem, and he fled to Lachish; but they sent after him to Lachish and killed him there.

20 S eu corpo foi trazido de volta a cavalo e sepultado em Jerusalém, junto aos seus antepassados, na Cidade de Davi.

Then they brought him on horses and he was buried at Jerusalem with his fathers in the city of David.

21 E ntão todo o povo de Judá proclamou rei a Azarias, de dezesseis anos de idade, no lugar de seu pai, Amazias.

All the people of Judah took Azariah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in the place of his father Amaziah.

22 F oi ele que reconquistou e reconstruiu a cidade de Elate para Judá, depois que Amazias descansou com os seus antepassados. O Reinado de Jeroboão, Rei de Israel

He built Elath and restored it to Judah after the king slept with his fathers.

23 N o décimo quinto ano do reinado de Amazias, filho de Joás, rei de Judá, Jeroboão, filho de Jeoás, rei de Israel, tornou-se rei em Samaria e reinou quarenta e um anos.

In the fifteenth year of Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah, Jeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel became king in Samaria, and reigned forty-one years.

24 E le fez o que o Senhor reprova e não se desviou de nenhum dos pecados que Jeroboão, filho de Nebate, levara Israel a cometer.

He did evil in the sight of the Lord; he did not depart from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which he made Israel sin.

25 F oi ele que restabeleceu as fronteiras de Israel desde Lebo-Hamate até o mar da Arabá, conforme a palavra do Senhor, Deus de Israel, anunciada pelo seu servo Jonas, filho de Amitai, profeta de Gate-Héfer.

He restored the border of Israel from the entrance of Hamath as far as the Sea of the Arabah, according to the word of the Lord, the God of Israel, which He spoke through His servant Jonah the son of Amittai, the prophet, who was of Gath-hepher.

26 O Senhor viu a amargura com que todos em Israel, tanto escravos quanto livres, estavam sofrendo; não havia ninguém para socorrê-los.

For the Lord saw the affliction of Israel, which was very bitter; for there was neither bond nor free, nor was there any helper for Israel.

27 V isto que o Senhor não dissera que apagaria o nome de Israel de debaixo do céu, ele os libertou pela mão de Jeroboão, filho de Jeoás.

The Lord did not say that He would blot out the name of Israel from under heaven, but He saved them by the hand of Jeroboam the son of Joash. Zechariah Reigns over Israel

Now the rest of the acts of Jeroboam and all that he did and his might, how he fought and how he recovered for Israel, Damascus and Hamath, which had belonged to Judah, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?

29 J eroboão descansou com os seus antepassados, os reis de Israel. Seu filho Zacarias foi o seu sucessor.

And Jeroboam slept with his fathers, even with the kings of Israel, and Zechariah his son became king in his place.
