1 J osafá descansou com os seus antepassados e foi sepultado junto deles na Cidade de Davi, e seu filho Jeorão foi o seu sucessor.

Then Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers and was buried with his fathers in the city of David, and Jehoram his son became king in his place.

2 O s irmãos de Jeorão, filhos de Josafá, foram Azarias, Jeiel, Zacarias, Azarias, Micael e Sefatias. Todos eles foram filhos de Josafá, rei de Israel.

He had brothers, the sons of Jehoshaphat: Azariah, Jehiel, Zechariah, Azaryahu, Michael and Shephatiah. All these were the sons of Jehoshaphat king of Israel.

3 E le deu-lhes muitos presentes de prata, de ouro e de objetos de valor, bem como cidades fortificadas em Judá, mas o reino, deu a Jeorão, porque este era seu filho mais velho. O Reinado de Jeorão, Rei de Judá

Their father gave them many gifts of silver, gold and precious things, with fortified cities in Judah, but he gave the kingdom to Jehoram because he was the firstborn.

4 L ogo Jeorão se fortaleceu no reino de seu pai, e matou à espada todos os seus irmãos e alguns líderes de Israel.

Now when Jehoram had taken over the kingdom of his father and made himself secure, he killed all his brothers with the sword, and some of the rulers of Israel also.

5 E le tinha trinta e dois anos de idade quando começou a reinar, e reinou oito anos em Jerusalém.

Jehoram was thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem.

6 A ndou nos caminhos dos reis de Israel, como a família de Acabe havia feito, pois se casou com uma filha de Acabe. E fez o que o Senhor reprova.

He walked in the way of the kings of Israel, just as the house of Ahab did ( for Ahab’s daughter was his wife), and he did evil in the sight of the Lord.

7 E ntretanto, por causa da aliança que havia feito com Davi, o Senhor não quis destruir a dinastia dele. Ele havia prometido manter para sempre um descendente de Davi no trono.

Yet the Lord was not willing to destroy the house of David because of the covenant which He had made with David, and since He had promised to give a lamp to him and his sons forever. Revolt against Judah

8 N os dias de Jeorão, os edomitas rebelaram-se contra o domínio de Judá, proclamando seu próprio rei.

In his days Edom revolted against the rule of Judah and set up a king over themselves.

9 P or isso Jeorão foi combatê-los com seus líderes e com todos os seus carros de guerra. Os edomitas cercaram Jeorão e os chefes dos seus carros de guerra, mas ele os atacou de noite e rompeu o cerco inimigo.

Then Jehoram crossed over with his commanders and all his chariots with him. And he arose by night and struck down the Edomites who were surrounding him and the commanders of the chariots.

10 E até hoje Edom continua independente de Judá. Nessa mesma época, a cidade de Libna também tornou-se independente, pois Jeorão havia abandonado o Senhor, o Deus dos seus antepassados.

So Edom revolted against Judah to this day. Then Libnah revolted at the same time against his rule, because he had forsaken the Lord God of his fathers.

11 E le até construiu altares idólatras nas colinas de Judá, levando o povo de Jerusalém a prostituir-se e Judá a desviar-se.

Moreover, he made high places in the mountains of Judah, and caused the inhabitants of Jerusalem to play the harlot and led Judah astray.

12 E ntão Jeorão recebeu uma carta do profeta Elias, que dizia: “Assim diz o Senhor, o Deus de Davi, seu antepassado: ‘Você não tem andado nos caminhos de seu pai Josafá nem de Asa, rei de Judá,

Then a letter came to him from Elijah the prophet saying, “Thus says the Lord God of your father David, ‘Because you have not walked in the ways of Jehoshaphat your father and the ways of Asa king of Judah,

13 m as sim nos caminhos dos reis de Israel, levando Judá e o povo de Jerusalém a se prostituírem na idolatria como a família de Acabe. E ainda assassinou seus próprios irmãos, membros da família de seu pai, homens que eram melhores do que você.

but have walked in the way of the kings of Israel, and have caused Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to play the harlot as the house of Ahab played the harlot, and you have also killed your brothers, your own family, who were better than you,

14 P or isso o Senhor vai ferir terrivelmente seu povo, seus filhos, suas mulheres e tudo o que é seu.

behold, the Lord is going to strike your people, your sons, your wives and all your possessions with a great calamity;

15 V ocê ficará muito doente; terá uma enfermidade no ventre, que irá piorar até que saiam os seus intestinos’”.

and you will suffer severe sickness, a disease of your bowels, until your bowels come out because of the sickness, day by day.’”

16 O Senhor despertou contra Jeorão a hostilidade dos filisteus e dos árabes que viviam perto dos etíopes.

Then the Lord stirred up against Jehoram the spirit of the Philistines and the Arabs who bordered the Ethiopians;

17 E les atacaram o reino de Judá, invadiram-no e levaram todos os bens que encontraram no palácio do rei, e também suas mulheres e seus filhos. Só ficou Acazias, o filho mais novo.

and they came against Judah and invaded it, and carried away all the possessions found in the king’s house together with his sons and his wives, so that no son was left to him except Jehoahaz, the youngest of his sons.

18 D epois de tudo isso, o Senhor afligiu Jeorão com uma doença incurável nos intestinos.

So after all this the Lord smote him in his bowels with an incurable sickness.

19 A lgum tempo depois, ao fim do segundo ano, tanto se agravou a doença que os seus intestinos saíram, e ele morreu sofrendo dores horríveis. Seu povo não fez nenhuma fogueira em sua homenagem, como havia feito para os seus antepassados.

Now it came about in the course of time, at the end of two years, that his bowels came out because of his sickness and he died in great pain. And his people made no fire for him like the fire for his fathers.

20 J eorão tinha trinta e dois anos de idade quando começou a reinar, e reinou oito anos em Jerusalém. Morreu sem que ninguém o lamentasse, e foi sepultado na Cidade de Davi, mas não nos túmulos dos reis.

He was thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years; and he departed with no one’s regret, and they buried him in the city of David, but not in the tombs of the kings.
