Loin de là! Que Dieu, au contraire, soit reconnu pour vrai, et tout homme pour menteur, selon qu'il est écrit: Afin que tu sois trouvé juste dans tes paroles, Et que tu triomphes lorsqu'on te juge.

5 I f our sins show how right God is, what can we say? Is it wrong for God to punish us for it? (I am speaking as men do.)

Mais si notre injustice établit la justice de Dieu, que dirons-nous? Dieu est-il injuste quand il déchaîne sa colère? (Je parle à la manière des hommes.)

6 N o, not at all! If it were wrong for God to punish us, how could He judge the world?

Loin de là! Autrement, comment Dieu jugerait-il le monde?

7 I f my lies honor God by showing how true He is, why am I still being judged as a sinner?

Et si, par mon mensonge, la vérité de Dieu éclate davantage pour sa gloire, pourquoi suis-je moi-même encore jugé comme pécheur?

8 W hy not say, “Let us sin that good will come from it.” (Some people have said I talk like this!) They will be punished as they should be.

Et pourquoi ne ferions-nous pas le mal afin qu'il en arrive du bien, comme quelques-uns, qui nous calomnient, prétendent que nous le disons? La condamnation de ces gens est juste.

9 W hat about it then? Are we Jews better than the people who are not Jews? Not at all! I have already said that Jews and the people who are not Jews are all sinners.

10 T he Holy Writings say, “There is not one person who is right with God. No, not even one!

11 T here is not one who understands. There is not one who tries to find God.”

Nul n'est intelligent, Nul ne cherche Dieu; Tous sont égarés, tous sont pervertis;

12 E veryone has turned away from God. They have all done wrong. Not one of them does what is good. No, not even one!

Il n'en est aucun qui fasse le bien, Pas même un seul;

13 T heir mouth is like an open grave. They tell lies with their tongues. Whatever they say is like the poison of snakes.

Leur gosier est un sépulcre ouvert; Ils se servent de leurs langues pour tromper; Ils ont sous leurs lèvres un venin d'aspic;

14 T heir mouths speak bad things against God. They say bad things about other people.

Leur bouche est pleine de malédiction et d'amertume;

15 T hey are quick to hurt and kill people.

Ils ont les pieds légers pour répandre le sang;

16 W herever they go, they destroy and make people suffer.

La destruction et le malheur sont sur leur route;

17 T hey know nothing about peace.

Ils ne connaissent pas le chemin de la paix;

18 T hey do not honor God with love and fear.”

La crainte de Dieu n'est pas devant leurs yeux.

19 N ow we know that the Law speaks to those who live under the Law. No one can say that he does not know what sin is. Yes, every person in the world stands guilty before God.

Or, nous savons que tout ce que dit la loi, elle le dit à ceux qui sont sous la loi, afin que toute bouche soit fermée, et que tout le monde soit reconnu coupable devant Dieu.

20 N o person will be made right with God by doing what the Law says. The Law shows us how sinful we are.

21 B ut now God has made another way to make men right with Himself. It is not by the Law. The Law and the early preachers tell about it.

Mais maintenant, sans la loi est manifestée la justice de Dieu, à laquelle rendent témoignage la loi et les prophètes,

22 M en become right with God by putting their trust in Jesus Christ. God will accept men if they come this way. All men are the same to God.

justice de Dieu par la foi en Jésus Christ pour tous ceux qui croient. Il n'y a point de distinction.

23 F or all men have sinned and have missed the shining-greatness of God.

Car tous ont péché et sont privés de la gloire de Dieu;

24 A nyone can be made right with God by the free gift of His loving-favor. It is Jesus Christ Who bought them with His blood and made them free from their sins.

et ils sont gratuitement justifiés par sa grâce, par le moyen de la rédemption qui est en Jésus Christ.

25 G od gave Jesus Christ to the world. Men’s sins can be forgiven through the blood of Christ when they put their trust in Him. God gave His Son Jesus Christ to show how right He is. Before this, God did not look on the sins that were done.

C'est lui que Dieu a destiné, par son sang, à être, pour ceux qui croiraient victime propitiatoire, afin de montrer sa justice, parce qu'il avait laissé impunis les péchés commis auparavant, au temps de sa patience, afin, dis-je,

26 B ut now God proves that He is right in saving men from sin. He shows that He is the One Who has no sin. God makes anyone right with Himself who puts his trust in Jesus.

27 W hat then do we have to be proud of? Nothing at all! Why? Is it because men obey the Law? No! It is because men put their trust in Christ.

Où donc est le sujet de se glorifier? Il est exclu. Par quelle loi? Par la loi des oeuvres? Non, mais par la loi de la foi.

28 T his is what we have come to know. A man is made right with God by putting his trust in Christ. It is not by his doing what the Law says.

Car nous pensons que l'homme est justifié par la foi, sans les oeuvres de la loi.

29 I s God the God of the Jews only? Is He not the God of the people who are not Jews also? He is for sure.

Ou bien Dieu est-il seulement le Dieu des Juifs? Ne l'est-il pas aussi des païens? Oui, il l'est aussi des païens,

30 H e is one God. He will make Jews and the people who are not Jews right with Himself if they put their trust in Christ.

puisqu'il y a un seul Dieu, qui justifiera par la foi les circoncis, et par la foi les incirconcis.

31 D oes this mean that we do away with the Law when we put our trust in Christ? No, not at all. It means we know the Law is important.

Anéantissons-nous donc la loi par la foi? Loin de là! Au contraire, nous confirmons la loi.
