1 H ezekiah became king when he was twenty-five years old. And he ruled for twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Abijah, the daughter of Zechariah.

Ézéchias devint roi à l'âge de vingt-cinq ans, et il régna vingt-neuf ans à Jérusalem. Sa mère s'appelait Abija, fille de Zacharie.

2 H ezekiah did what was right in the eyes of the Lord. He did all that his father David had done. Hezekiah Makes the House of God Holy Again

Il fit ce qui est droit aux yeux de l'Éternel, entièrement comme avait fait David, son père.

3 I n the first month of the first year of his rule, he opened the doors of the Lord’s house and made them like new.

La première année de son règne, au premier mois, il ouvrit les portes de la maison de l'Éternel, et il les répara.

4 H e brought in the religious leaders and the Levites, and gathered them in the open space on the east side.

Il fit venir les sacrificateurs et les Lévites, qu'il assembla dans la place orientale,

5 T hen he said to them, “Listen to me, O Levites. Now make yourselves holy. And make holy the house of the Lord, the God of your fathers. Carry what is unclean out from the holy place.

et il leur dit: Écoutez-moi, Lévites! Maintenant sanctifiez-vous, sanctifiez la maison de l'Éternel, le Dieu de vos pères, et mettez ce qui est impur hors du sanctuaire.

6 F or our fathers have not been faithful. They have done what is bad in the eyes of the Lord our God. They have left Him and turned their faces away from the house of the Lord. They have turned their backs.

Car nos pères ont péché, ils ont fait ce qui est mal aux yeux de l'Éternel, notre Dieu, ils l'ont abandonné, ils ont détourné leurs regards du tabernacle de l'Éternel et lui ont tourné le dos.

7 T hey have also shut the doors of the porch and put out the lamps. They have not burned special perfume or given burnt gifts in the holy place to the God of Israel.

Ils ont même fermé les portes du portique et éteint les lampes, et ils n'ont offert au Dieu d'Israël ni parfums ni holocaustes dans le sanctuaire.

8 S o the Lord was angry with Judah and Jerusalem. He has made them an object of fear and wonder and shame, as you see with your own eyes.

Aussi la colère de l'Éternel a été sur Juda et sur Jérusalem, et il les a livrés au trouble, à la désolation et à la moquerie, comme vous le voyez de vos yeux.

9 S ee, our fathers have fallen by the sword. And our sons, our daughters and our wives have been taken away to a strange land because of this.

Et voici, à cause de cela nos pères sont tombés par l'épée, et nos fils, nos filles et nos femmes sont en captivité.

10 N ow it is in my heart to make an agreement with the Lord God of Israel, that His burning anger may turn away from us.

J'ai donc l'intention de faire alliance avec l'Éternel, le Dieu d'Israël, pour que son ardente colère se détourne de nous.

11 M y sons, take care now. For the Lord has chosen you to stand before Him, to do His work and to burn special perfume.”

Maintenant, mes fils, cessez d'être négligents; car vous avez été choisis par l'Éternel pour vous tenir à son service devant lui, pour être ses serviteurs, et pour lui offrir des parfums.

12 T hen the Levites set to work. There was Mahath the son of Amasai, and Joel the son of Azariah, from the sons of the Kohathites. From the sons of Merari there was Kish the son of Abdi, and Azariah the son of Jehallelel. From the Gershonites there was Joah the son of Zimmah, and Eden the son of Joah.

Et les Lévites se levèrent: Machath, fils d'Amasaï, Joël, fils d'Azaria, des fils des Kehathites; et des fils des Merarites, Kis, fils d'Abdi, Azaria, fils de Jehalléleel; et des Guerschonites, Joach, fils de Zimma, Éden, fils de Joach;

13 T here were Shimri and Jeiel from the sons of Elizaphan. There were Zechariah and Mattaniah from the sons of Asaph.

et des fils d'Élitsaphan, Schimri et Jeïel; et des fils d'Asaph, Zacharie et Matthania;

14 F rom the sons of Heman there were Jehiel and Shimei. And from the sons of Jeduthun there were Shemaiah and Uzziel.

et des fils d'Héman, Jehiel et Schimeï; et des fils de Jeduthun, Schemaeja et Uzziel.

15 T hey gathered their brothers and made themselves holy, and went in to make the Lord’s house clean, as the king had told them by the words of the Lord.

Ils réunirent leurs frères, et, après s'être sanctifiés, ils vinrent pour purifier la maison de l'Éternel, selon l'ordre du roi et d'après les paroles de l'Éternel.

16 T he religious leaders went in to the inside part of the Lord’s house to make it clean. They brought out to the open space of the Lord’s house everything they found inside which was unclean. Then the Levites took it and carried it out to the river of Kidron.

Les sacrificateurs entrèrent dans l'intérieur de la maison de l'Éternel pour la purifier; ils sortirent toutes les impuretés qu'ils trouvèrent dans le temple de l'Éternel et les mirent dans le parvis de la maison de l'Éternel, où les Lévites les reçurent pour les emporter dehors au torrent de Cédron.

17 T hey began to make it holy on the first day of the first month, and on the eighth day of the month they came to the porch of the Lord. Then they made the Lord’s house holy in eight days, and finished on the sixteenth day of the first month.

Ils commencèrent ces purifications le premier jour du premier mois; le huitième jour du mois, ils entrèrent dans le portique de l'Éternel, et ils mirent huit jours à purifier la maison de l'Éternel; le seizième jour du premier mois, ils avaient achevé.

18 T hen they went in to King Hezekiah and said, “We have made clean the whole house of the Lord, the altar of burnt gifts with all of its objects, and the table of holy bread with all of its objects.

Ils se rendirent ensuite chez le roi Ézéchias, et dirent: Nous avons purifié toute la maison de l'Éternel, l'autel des holocaustes et tous ses ustensiles, et la table des pains de proposition et tous ses ustensiles.

19 A nd we have made all the objects holy which King Ahaz had thrown away during his rule when he was not faithful. See, they are before the altar of the Lord.” Worship in the House of God Again

Nous avons remis en état et purifié tous les ustensiles que le roi Achaz avait profanés pendant son règne, lors de ses transgressions: ils sont devant l'autel de l'Éternel.

20 T hen King Hezekiah got up early and gathered the city rulers and went up to the house of the Lord.

Le roi Ézéchias se leva de bon matin, assembla les chefs de la ville, et monta à la maison de l'Éternel.

21 T hey brought seven bulls, seven rams, seven lambs, and seven male goats, for a sin gift for the nation, the holy place, and Judah. Hezekiah told the religious leaders, the sons of Aaron, to give them on the altar of the Lord.

Ils offrirent sept taureaux, sept béliers, sept agneaux et sept boucs, en sacrifice d'expiation pour le royaume, pour le sanctuaire, et pour Juda. Le roi ordonna aux sacrificateurs, fils d'Aaron, de les offrir sur l'autel de l'Éternel.

22 S o they killed the bulls, and the religious leaders took the blood and put it on the altar. They killed the rams and put the blood on the altar. And they killed the lambs and put the blood on the altar.

Les sacrificateurs égorgèrent les boeufs, et reçurent le sang, qu'ils répandirent sur l'autel; ils égorgèrent les béliers, et répandirent le sang sur l'autel; ils égorgèrent les agneaux, et répandirent le sang sur l'autel.

23 T hen they brought the male goats of the sin gift in front of the king and the people. They laid their hands on them.

On amena ensuite les boucs expiatoires devant le roi et devant l'assemblée, qui posèrent leurs mains sur eux.

24 A nd the religious leaders killed them and gave a sin gift with their blood, to pay for the sins of all Israel. For the king said that the burnt gift and the sin gift should be made for all Israel.

Les sacrificateurs les égorgèrent, et répandirent leur sang au pied de l'autel en expiation pour les péchés de tout Israël; car c'était pour tout Israël que le roi avait ordonné l'holocauste et le sacrifice d'expiation.

25 T hen Hezekiah put the Levites in their places in the house of the Lord with timbrels and different kinds of harps. He did as David, Gad and Nathan, the men who spoke for God, had all said. For through these men the Lord said that this was to be done.

Il fit placer les Lévites dans la maison de l'Éternel avec des cymbales, des luths et des harpes, selon l'ordre de David, de Gad le voyant du roi, et de Nathan, le prophète; car c'était un ordre de l'Éternel, transmis par ses prophètes.

26 T he Levites stood with the objects for making music which David had made. And the religious leaders stood with the horns.

Les Lévites prirent place avec les instruments de David, et les sacrificateurs avec les trompettes.

27 T hen Hezekiah told them to give the burnt gift on the altar. When the burnt gift began, the song to the Lord also began, with the horns and the objects for music made by David, king of Israel.

Ézéchias ordonna d'offrir l'holocauste sur l'autel; et au moment où commença l'holocauste, commença aussi le chant de l'Éternel, au son des trompettes et avec accompagnement des instruments de David, roi d'Israël.

28 W hile all the people worshiped, the singers sang and the horns sounded. The music went on until the burnt gift was finished.

Toute l'assemblée se prosterna, on chanta le cantique, et l'on sonna des trompettes, le tout jusqu'à ce que l'holocauste fût achevé.

29 W hen the burnt gift was finished, the king and all who were with him bowed down and worshiped.

Et quand on eut achevé d'offrir l'holocauste, le roi et tous ceux qui étaient avec lui fléchirent le genou et se prosternèrent.

30 K ing Hezekiah and the rulers told the Levites to sing praises to the Lord with the words of David and Asaph the man of God. So they sang praises with joy, and bowed down and worshiped.

Puis le roi Ézéchias et les chefs dirent aux Lévites de célébrer l'Éternel avec les paroles de David et du prophète Asaph; et ils le célébrèrent avec des transports de joie, et ils s'inclinèrent et se prosternèrent.

31 T hen Hezekiah said, “Now that you have made yourselves holy to the Lord, come near and bring gifts for the altar and gifts of thanks to the house of the Lord.” And the people brought gifts for the altar and gifts of thanks. All those who were willing brought burnt gifts.

Ézéchias prit alors la parole, et dit: Maintenant que vous vous êtes consacrés à l'Éternel, approchez-vous, amenez des victimes et offrez en sacrifices d'actions de grâces à la maison de l'Éternel. Et l'assemblée amena des victimes et offrit des sacrifices d'actions de grâces, et tous ceux dont le coeur était bien disposé offrirent des holocaustes.

32 T he number of the burnt gifts which the people brought was 70 bulls, 100 rams, and 200 lambs. All these were for a burnt gift to the Lord.

Le nombre des holocaustes offerts par l'assemblée fut de soixante-dix boeufs, cent béliers, et deux cents agneaux; toutes ces victimes furent immolées en holocauste à l'Éternel.

33 A nd the holy gifts were 600 bulls and 3, 000 sheep.

Et l'on consacra encore six cents boeufs et trois mille brebis.

34 B ut there were not enough religious leaders to skin all the burnt gifts. So their brothers the Levites helped them until the work was finished, and until all the religious leaders had made themselves holy. For the Levites put more care into making themselves holy than the religious leaders.

Mais les sacrificateurs étaient en petit nombre, et ils ne purent dépouiller tous les holocaustes; leurs frères, les Lévites, les aidèrent jusqu'à ce que l'ouvrage fût fini, et jusqu'à ce que les autres sacrificateurs se fussent sanctifiés, car les Lévites avaient eu plus à coeur de se sanctifier que les sacrificateurs.

35 T here were also many burnt gifts with the fat of the peace gifts. And there were the drink gifts for the burnt gifts. So the worship was returned to the house of the Lord.

Il y avait d'ailleurs beaucoup d'holocaustes, avec les graisses des sacrifices d'actions de grâces, et avec les libations des holocaustes. Ainsi fut rétabli le service de la maison de l'Éternel.

36 T hen Hezekiah and all the people were filled with joy because of what God had done for the people, for it was done all at once.

Ézéchias et tout le peuple se réjouirent de ce que Dieu avait bien disposé le peuple, car la chose se fit subitement.
