1 N ow when all this was finished, all the people of Israel who were there went out to the cities of Judah. They broke in pieces the pillars set up for the false gods. They cut down the objects of the false goddess Asherah. And they pulled down the high places and the altars through all Judah and Benjamin, and in Ephraim and Manasseh. They destroyed all of them. Then all the people of Israel returned to their cities, every man to his land.

Lorsque tout cela fut terminé, tous ceux d'Israël qui étaient présents partirent pour les villes de Juda, et ils brisèrent les statues, abattirent les idoles, et renversèrent entièrement les hauts lieux et les autels dans tout Juda et Benjamin et dans Éphraïm et Manassé. Puis tous les enfants d'Israël retournèrent dans leurs villes, chacun dans sa propriété.

2 H ezekiah divided the religious leaders and the Levites into groups, each by the work he was to do. He chose the religious leaders and Levites for giving the burnt gifts and peace gifts, for serving and giving thanks, and for praising in the gates of the camp of the Lord.

Ézéchias rétablit les classes des sacrificateurs et des Lévites d'après leurs divisions, chacun selon ses fonctions, sacrificateurs et Lévites, pour les holocaustes et les sacrifices d'actions de grâces, pour le service, pour les chants et les louanges, aux portes du camp de l'Éternel.

3 H e decided what the king should give of his own animals for the burnt gifts, for the morning and evening, for the Days of Rest and the New Moons and the Special Suppers, as it is written in the Law of the Lord.

Le roi donna une portion de ses biens pour les holocaustes, pour les holocaustes du matin et du soir, et pour les holocaustes des sabbats, des nouvelles lunes et des fêtes, comme il est écrit dans la loi de l'Éternel.

4 A nd he told the people who lived in Jerusalem to give the share that should go to the religious leaders and the Levites, that they might give themselves to the Law of the Lord.

Et il dit au peuple, aux habitants de Jérusalem, de donner la portion des sacrificateurs et des Lévites, afin qu'ils observassent fidèlement la loi de l'Éternel.

5 A s soon as the news spread, the people of Israel gave much of the first-fruits of grain, new wine, oil, honey, and of all the food of the field. They brought in more than a tenth part of everything.

Lorsque la chose fut répandue, les enfants d'Israël donnèrent en abondance les prémices du blé, du moût, de l'huile, du miel, et de tous les produits des champs; ils apportèrent aussi en abondance la dîme de tout.

6 T he people of Israel and Judah, who lived in the cities of Judah, also brought in a tenth part of the cattle and sheep. And they brought a tenth part of the holy things which were set apart for the Lord their God. They laid them one on top of the other.

De même, les enfants d'Israël et de Juda qui demeuraient dans les villes de Juda donnèrent la dîme du gros et du menu bétail, et la dîme des choses saintes qui étaient consacrées à l'Éternel, leur Dieu, et dont on fit plusieurs tas.

7 T hey began to lay them on top of each other in the third month, and finished by the seventh month.

On commença à former les tas au troisième mois, et l'on acheva au septième mois.

8 A nd when Hezekiah and the rulers came and saw all the things, they praised the Lord and His people Israel.

Ézéchias et les chefs vinrent voir les tas, et ils bénirent l'Éternel et son peuple d'Israël.

9 T hen Hezekiah asked the religious leaders and the Levites about all the things which had been brought.

Et Ézéchias interrogea les sacrificateurs et les Lévites au sujet de ces tas.

10 A zariah the head religious leader of the family of Zadok said to him, “Since the gifts began to be brought into the Lord’s house, we have had much more than enough to eat. For the Lord has brought good to His people, and we have all this much left.”

Alors le souverain sacrificateur Azaria, de la maison de Tsadok, lui répondit: Depuis qu'on a commencé d'apporter les offrandes dans la maison de l'Éternel, nous avons mangé, nous nous sommes rassasiés, et nous en avons beaucoup laissé, car l'Éternel a béni son peuple; et voici la grande quantité qu'il y a de reste.

11 T hen Hezekiah told them to make rooms ready in the house of the Lord, and they made them ready.

Ézéchias donna l'ordre de préparer des chambres dans la maison de l'Éternel; et on les prépara.

12 A nd they were faithful to bring in the gifts and the tenth part and the holy things. Conaniah the Levite was the captain over them, and his brother Shimei was second.

On y apporta fidèlement les offrandes, la dîme, et les choses saintes. Le Lévite Conania en eut l'intendance, et son frère Schimeï était en second.

13 T he leaders under Conaniah and his brother Shimei were Jehiel, Azaziah, Nahath, Asahel, Jerimoth, Jozabad, Eliel, Ismachiah, Mahath, and Benaiah. They were chosen by King Hezekiah. Azariah was the head captain of the house of God.

Jehiel, Azazia, Nachath, Asaël, Jerimoth, Jozabad, Éliel, Jismakia, Machath et Benaja étaient employés sous la direction de Conania et de son frère Schimeï, d'après l'ordre du roi Ézéchias, et d'Azaria, chef de la maison de Dieu.

14 K ore, the son of Imnah the Levite, who watched over the east gate, was captain of the free-will gifts to God. He divided the gifts for the Lord and the most holy things.

Le Lévite Koré, fils de Jimna, portier de l'orient, avait l'intendance des dons volontaires faits à Dieu, pour distribuer ce qui était présenté à l'Éternel par élévation et les choses très saintes.

15 U nder his rule were Eden, Miniamin, Jeshua, Shemaiah, Amariah, and Shecaniah, in the cities of the religious leaders. They were faithful to give shares to their brothers by their groups, large and small alike.

Dans les villes sacerdotales, Éden, Minjamin, Josué, Schemaeja, Amaria et Schecania étaient placés sous sa direction pour faire fidèlement les distributions à leurs frères, grands et petits, selon leurs divisions:

16 A lso they gave to those whose names were written down by families, from three years old and older. They gave to everyone who went into the Lord’s house for each day’s duty, for the work each of their groups was to do.

aux mâles enregistrés depuis l'âge de trois ans et au-dessus; à tous ceux qui entraient journellement dans la maison de l'Éternel pour faire leur service selon leurs fonctions et selon leurs divisions;

17 T he names of the religious leaders were written down by their family groups, and the Levites from twenty years old and older, by their duties and their groups.

aux sacrificateurs enregistrés d'après leurs maisons paternelles, et aux Lévites de vingt ans et au-dessus, selon leurs fonctions et selon leurs divisions;

18 A lso written down were the names of their little children, their wives, their sons, and their daughters, for all the people. For they were faithful to set themselves apart to be holy.

à ceux de toute l'assemblée enregistrés avec tous leurs petits enfants, leurs femmes, leurs fils et leurs filles, car ils se consacraient fidèlement au service du sanctuaire.

19 A lso the sons of Aaron, the religious leaders who were in the fields around their cities, or in each and every city, were taken care of. There were men chosen by name to give shares to every male among the religious leaders and to everyone whose name was written down among the Levites.

Et pour les fils d'Aaron, les sacrificateurs, qui demeuraient à la campagne dans les banlieues de leurs villes, il y avait dans chaque ville des hommes désignés par leurs noms pour distribuer les portions à tous les mâles des sacrificateurs et à tous les Lévites enregistrés.

20 H ezekiah did this through all Judah. He did what was good and right and true before the Lord his God.

Voilà ce que fit Ézéchias dans tout Juda; il fit ce qui est bien, ce qui est droit, ce qui est vrai, devant l'Éternel, son Dieu.

21 A ll the work he began in the house of God, obeying the Laws and looking to his God, he did with all his heart and all went well for him.

Il agit de tout son coeur, et il réussit dans tout ce qu'il entreprit, en recherchant son Dieu, pour le service de la maison de Dieu, pour la loi et pour les commandements.
