4 N o, not at all! God is always true even if every man lies. The Holy Writings say, “Speak the truth and you will not be proven guilty.”

No di certo! Anzi, sia Dio riconosciuto veritiero e ogni uomo bugiardo, com’è scritto: «Affinché tu sia riconosciuto giusto nelle tue parole e trionfi quando sei giudicato».

5 I f our sins show how right God is, what can we say? Is it wrong for God to punish us for it? (I am speaking as men do.)

Ma se la nostra ingiustizia fa risaltare la giustizia di Dio, che diremo? Che Dio è ingiusto quando dà corso alla sua ira? (Parlo alla maniera degli uomini.)

6 N o, not at all! If it were wrong for God to punish us, how could He judge the world?

7 I f my lies honor God by showing how true He is, why am I still being judged as a sinner?

8 W hy not say, “Let us sin that good will come from it.” (Some people have said I talk like this!) They will be punished as they should be.

10 T he Holy Writings say, “There is not one person who is right with God. No, not even one!

com’è scritto: « Non c’è nessun giusto, neppure uno.

11 T here is not one who understands. There is not one who tries to find God.”

Non c’è nessuno che capisca, non c’è nessuno che cerchi Dio.

12 E veryone has turned away from God. They have all done wrong. Not one of them does what is good. No, not even one!

Tutti si sono sviati, tutti quanti si sono corrotti. Non c’è nessuno che pratichi la bontà, {no,} neppure uno».

13 T heir mouth is like an open grave. They tell lies with their tongues. Whatever they say is like the poison of snakes.

«La loro gola è un sepolcro aperto; con le loro lingue hanno tramato frode». «Sotto le loro labbra c’è un veleno di serpenti».

14 T heir mouths speak bad things against God. They say bad things about other people.

« La loro bocca è piena di maledizione e di amarezza».

15 T hey are quick to hurt and kill people.

«I loro piedi sono veloci a spargere il sangue.

16 W herever they go, they destroy and make people suffer.

Rovina e calamità sono sul loro cammino

17 T hey know nothing about peace.

e non conoscono la via della pace».

18 T hey do not honor God with love and fear.”

«Non c’è timor di Dio davanti ai loro occhi».

19 N ow we know that the Law speaks to those who live under the Law. No one can say that he does not know what sin is. Yes, every person in the world stands guilty before God.

Or noi sappiamo che tutto quel che la legge dice, lo dice a quelli che sono sotto la legge, affinché sia chiusa ogni bocca e tutto il mondo sia riconosciuto colpevole di fronte a Dio;

20 N o person will be made right with God by doing what the Law says. The Law shows us how sinful we are.

perché mediante le opere della legge nessuno sarà giustificato davanti a lui; infatti la legge dà la conoscenza del peccato. La giustificazione attraverso la fede in Cristo

21 B ut now God has made another way to make men right with Himself. It is not by the Law. The Law and the early preachers tell about it.

Ora però, indipendentemente dalla legge, è stata manifestata la giustizia di Dio, della quale danno testimonianza la legge e i profeti:

22 M en become right with God by putting their trust in Jesus Christ. God will accept men if they come this way. All men are the same to God.

vale a dire la giustizia di Dio mediante la fede in Gesù Cristo, per tutti coloro che credono. Infatti non c’è distinzione:

23 F or all men have sinned and have missed the shining-greatness of God.

tutti hanno peccato e sono privi della gloria di Dio,

24 A nyone can be made right with God by the free gift of His loving-favor. It is Jesus Christ Who bought them with His blood and made them free from their sins.

ma sono giustificati gratuitamente per la sua grazia, mediante la redenzione che è in Cristo Gesù.

25 G od gave Jesus Christ to the world. Men’s sins can be forgiven through the blood of Christ when they put their trust in Him. God gave His Son Jesus Christ to show how right He is. Before this, God did not look on the sins that were done.

Dio lo ha prestabilito come sacrificio propiziatorio mediante la fede nel suo sangue, per dimostrare la sua giustizia, avendo usato tolleranza verso i peccati commessi in passato,

26 B ut now God proves that He is right in saving men from sin. He shows that He is the One Who has no sin. God makes anyone right with Himself who puts his trust in Jesus.

al tempo della sua divina pazienza; e per dimostrare la sua giustizia nel tempo presente affinché egli sia giusto e giustifichi colui che ha fede in Gesù.

27 W hat then do we have to be proud of? Nothing at all! Why? Is it because men obey the Law? No! It is because men put their trust in Christ.

Dov’è dunque il vanto? Esso è escluso. Per quale legge? Delle opere? No, ma per la legge della fede;

28 T his is what we have come to know. A man is made right with God by putting his trust in Christ. It is not by his doing what the Law says.

poiché riteniamo che l’uomo è giustificato mediante la fede senza le opere della legge.

29 I s God the God of the Jews only? Is He not the God of the people who are not Jews also? He is for sure.

Dio è forse soltanto il Dio dei Giudei? Non è egli anche il Dio degli altri popoli? Certo, è anche il Dio degli altri popoli,

30 H e is one God. He will make Jews and the people who are not Jews right with Himself if they put their trust in Christ.

poiché c’è un solo Dio, il quale giustificherà il circonciso per fede, e l’incirconciso ugualmente per mezzo della fede.

31 D oes this mean that we do away with the Law when we put our trust in Christ? No, not at all. It means we know the Law is important.

Annulliamo dunque la legge mediante la fede? No di certo! Anzi, confermiamo la legge.
