1 I n those days many people were gathered together. They had nothing to eat. Jesus called His followers to Him and said,

In quei giorni c’era di nuovo una folla grandissima, e poiché non avevano da mangiare, Gesù, chiamati a sé i discepoli, disse loro:

2 “ I pity these people because they have been with Me three days and have nothing to eat.

«Io ho pietà di questa gente; poiché da tre giorni sta con me e non ha da mangiare.

3 I f I send them home without food, they may be too weak as they go. Many of them have come a long way.”

Se li rimando a casa digiuni, verranno meno per strada; e alcuni di loro sono venuti da lontano».

4 H is followers said to Him, “Where can anyone get enough bread for them here in this desert?”

I suoi discepoli gli risposero: «Come si potrebbe mai saziarli di pane qui, in un deserto?»

5 H e asked them, “How many loaves of bread do you have?” They said, “Seven.”

Egli domandò loro: «Quanti pani avete?» Essi dissero: «Sette».

6 T hen He told the people to sit down on the ground. Jesus took the seven loaves of bread and gave thanks to God. He broke the loaves and gave them to His followers to give to the people. The followers gave the bread to them.

Egli ordinò alla folla di accomodarsi per terra; e presi i sette pani, dopo aver reso grazie, li spezzò e li diede ai suoi discepoli perché li distribuissero; ed essi li distribuirono alla folla.

7 T hey had a few small fish also. He gave thanks to God and told the followers to give the fish to them.

Avevano anche pochi pesciolini; ed egli, dopo averli benedetti, comandò di distribuire anche quelli.

8 T hey all ate and were filled. They picked up seven baskets full of pieces of bread and fish after the people were finished eating.

Così mangiarono e furono saziati; e dei pezzi avanzati si raccolsero sette panieri.

9 A bout four thousand ate. Then Jesus sent the people away. The Proud Religious Law-Keepers Ask for Something Special to See

Erano circa quattromila persone. Poi Gesù li congedò. I farisei chiedono un segno

10 A t once Jesus got in a boat with His followers and came to the country of Dalmanutha.

E subito, salito sulla barca con i suoi discepoli, andò dalle parti di Dalmanuta.

11 T he proud religious law-keepers came and began to ask Him for something special to see from heaven. They wanted to trap Jesus.

Allora vennero i farisei e si misero a discutere con lui, chiedendogli, per metterlo alla prova, un segno dal cielo.

12 H e breathed deep within and said, “Why do the people of this day look for something special to see? For sure, I tell you, the people of this day will have nothing special to see from heaven.”

Ma egli, dopo aver sospirato nel suo spirito, disse: «Perché questa generazione chiede un segno? In verità io vi dico: nessun segno sarà dato a questa generazione».

13 T hen He left them. He got in the boat and went to the other side of the sea. Jesus Shows That the Teaching of the Proud Religious Law-Keepers Is Wrong

E, lasciatili, salì di nuovo e passò all’altra riva.

14 T he followers had forgotten to take bread, only one loaf was in the boat.

I discepoli avevano nella barca solo un pane, perché avevano dimenticato di prenderne degli altri.

15 H e said to them, “Look out! Have nothing to do with the yeast of the proud religious law-keepers and of Herod.”

Egli li ammoniva dicendo: «Guardatevi dal lievito dei farisei e dal lievito di Erode!»

16 T hey talked about it among themselves. They said, “He said this because we forgot to bring bread.”

Ed essi si dicevano gli uni agli altri: «È perché non abbiamo pane ».

17 J esus knew what they were thinking. He said to them, “Why are you talking among yourselves about forgetting to bring bread? Do you not understand? Is it not plain to you? Are your hearts still hard?

Ma egli, accortosene, disse loro: «Perché state a discutere del non aver pane? Non riflettete e non capite ancora? Avete il cuore indurito?

18 Y ou have eyes, do you not see? You have ears, do you not hear? Do you not remember?

Avete occhi e non vedete, avete orecchi e non udite? E non vi ricordate?

19 W hen I divided the five loaves of bread among the five thousand, how many baskets full of pieces did you pick up?” They said, “Twelve.”

Quando io spezzai i cinque pani per i cinquemila, quante ceste piene di pezzi raccoglieste?» Essi dissero: «Dodici».

20 “ When I divided the seven loaves of bread among the four thousand, how many baskets full of pieces did you pick up?” They said, “Seven.”

«Quando spezzai i sette pani per i quattromila, quanti panieri pieni di pezzi raccoglieste?» Essi risposero: «Sette».

21 T hen He asked, “Why do you not understand yet?” Jesus Heals a Blind Man

E diceva loro: «Non capite ancora? » Gesù guarisce un cieco

22 T hen they came to the town of Bethsaida. Some people brought a blind man to Jesus. They asked if He would touch him.

Giunsero a Betsaida, e gli condussero un cieco, pregandolo di toccarlo.

23 H e took the blind man by the hand out of town. Then He spit on the eyes of the blind man and put His hands on him. He asked, “Do you see anything?”

Egli, preso il cieco per la mano, lo condusse fuori dal villaggio, gli sputò sugli occhi, pose le mani su di lui e gli domandò: «Vedi qualche cosa? »

24 T he blind man looked up and said, “I see some men. They look like trees, walking.”

Egli aprì gli occhi e disse: «Scorgo gli uomini, perché vedo come alberi che camminano».

25 J esus put His hands on the man’s eyes again and told him to look up. Then he was healed and saw everything well.

Allora gli pose di nuovo le mani sugli occhi; ed egli guardò e fu guarito e vedeva ogni cosa chiaramente.

26 J esus sent him to his home and said, “Do not go into the town, or tell it to anyone there.” Peter Says Jesus Is the Christ

Gesù lo rimandò a casa sua e gli disse: «Non entrare neppure nel villaggio ». Pietro riconosce in Gesù il Cristo

27 J esus and His followers went from there to the towns of Caesarea Philippi. As they went, He asked His followers, “Who do people say that I am?”

Poi Gesù se ne andò, con i suoi discepoli, verso i villaggi di Cesarea di Filippo; strada facendo domandò ai suoi discepoli: «Chi dice la gente che io sia?»

28 T hey answered, “Some say John the Baptist and some say Elijah and others say one of the early preachers.”

Essi gli dissero: «Alcuni, Giovanni il battista; altri, Elia, e altri, uno dei profeti.

29 H e said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter said, “You are the Christ.”

Egli domandò loro: «E voi, chi dite che io sia?» E Pietro gli rispose: «Tu sei il Cristo».

30 H e told them with strong words that they should tell no one about Him. Jesus Tells of His Death for the First Time

Ed egli ordinò loro di non parlare di lui a nessuno. Il prezzo del discepolato

31 H e began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things. He told them that the leaders and the religious leaders of the Jews and the teachers of the Law would have nothing to do with Him. He told them He would be killed and three days later He would be raised from the dead.

Poi cominciò a insegnare loro che era necessario che il Figlio dell’uomo soffrisse molte cose, fosse respinto dagli anziani, dai capi dei sacerdoti e dagli scribi, fosse ucciso e dopo tre giorni risuscitasse.

32 H e had said this in plain words. Peter took Him away from the others and began to speak sharp words to Him.

Diceva queste cose apertamente. Pietro lo prese da parte e cominciò a rimproverarlo.

33 J esus turned around. He looked at His followers and spoke sharp words to Peter. He said, “Get behind Me, Satan! Your thoughts are not thoughts from God but from men.” Giving Up Self and One’s Own Desires

Ma Gesù si voltò e, guardando i suoi discepoli, rimproverò Pietro dicendo: «Vattene via da me, Satana! Tu non hai il senso delle cose di Dio, ma delle cose degli uomini».

34 J esus called the people and His followers to Him. He said to them, “If anyone wants to be My follower, he must give up himself and his own desires. He must take up his cross and follow Me.

Chiamata a sé la folla con i suoi discepoli, disse loro: «Se uno vuol venire dietro a me, rinunci a se stesso, prenda la sua croce e mi segua.

35 I f anyone wants to keep his own life safe, he will lose it. If anyone gives up his life because of Me and because of the Good News, he will save it.

Perché chi vorrà salvare la sua vita, la perderà; ma chi perderà la sua vita per causa mia e del vangelo, la salverà.

36 F or what does a man have if he gets all the world and loses his own soul?

E che giova all’uomo se guadagna tutto il mondo e perde l’anima sua?

37 W hat can a man give to buy back his soul?

Infatti che darebbe l’uomo in cambio della sua anima?

38 W hoever is ashamed of Me and My Words among the sinful people of this day, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when He comes in the shining-greatness of His Father and His holy angels.”

Perché se uno si sarà vergognato di me e delle mie parole in questa generazione adultera e peccatrice, anche il Figlio dell’uomo si vergognerà di lui quando verrà nella gloria del Padre suo con i santi angeli».
