1 T he fifth angel blew his horn. I saw a star from heaven which had fallen to earth. The key to the hole without a bottom was given to the angel.

Poi il quinto angelo suonò la tromba, e io vidi un astro che era caduto dal cielo sulla terra; e a lui fu data la chiave del pozzo dell’abisso.

2 H e opened the hole and smoke came out like the smoke from a place where there is much fire. The sun and the air became dark because of the smoke from the hole.

Egli aprì il pozzo dell’abisso e ne salì un fumo, come quello di una grande fornace; il sole e l’aria furono oscurati dal fumo del pozzo.

3 L ocusts came down to the earth out of the smoke. They were given power to hurt like small animals that sting.

Dal fumo uscirono sulla terra delle cavallette a cui fu dato un potere simile a quello degli scorpioni della terra.

4 T hey were told not to hurt the grass or any green plant or any tree. They were to hurt only the men who did not have the mark of God on their foreheads.

E fu detto loro di non danneggiare l’erba della terra, né alcuna verdura, né alcun albero, ma solo gli uomini che non avessero il sigillo di Dio sulla fronte.

5 T he locusts were not allowed to kill these men. They were to give them much pain for five months like the pain that comes from a small animal that stings.

Fu loro concesso, non di ucciderli, ma di tormentarli per cinque mesi; e il tormento che procuravano era simile a quello prodotto dallo scorpione quando punge un uomo.

6 M en will look for ways to die during those days, but they will not find any way. They will want to die, but death will be kept from them.

In quei giorni gli uomini cercheranno la morte, ma non la troveranno; brameranno morire, ma la morte fuggirà da loro.

7 T he locusts looked like horses ready for war. They had on their heads what looked like crowns of gold. Their faces were like men’s faces.

L’aspetto delle cavallette era simile a cavalli pronti per la guerra. Sulla testa avevano come delle corone d’oro e la loro faccia era come viso d’uomo.

8 T heir hair was like the hair of women. Their teeth were like the teeth of lions.

Avevano dei capelli come capelli di donne e i loro denti erano come denti di leoni.

9 T heir chests were covered with what looked like pieces of iron. The sound their wings made was like the sound of many wagons rushing to war.

Il loro torace era simile a una corazza di ferro e il rumore delle loro ali era come quello di carri tirati da molti cavalli che corrono alla battaglia.

10 T hey had tails like a small animal that stings. The sting came from their tails. They were given power to hurt men for five months.

Avevano code e pungiglioni come quelli degli scorpioni, e nelle code stava il loro potere di danneggiare gli uomini per cinque mesi.

11 T hese locusts have a king over them. He is the head angel of the hole that has no bottom. His name in the Hebrew language is Abbadon. In the Greek language it is Apollyon. (It means the one who destroys.)

Il loro re era l’angelo dell’abisso, il cui nome in ebraico è Abaddon e in greco Apollion.

12 T he first time of trouble is past. But see, there are two more times of trouble coming after this. The Sixth Horn—the Angels That Kill

Il primo «guai» è passato; ecco, vengono ancora due «guai» dopo queste cose.

13 T he sixth angel blew his horn. I heard a voice coming from the four corners of the altar made of gold that is before God.

Poi il sesto angelo suonò la tromba, e udii una voce dai {quattro} corni dell’altare d’oro che era davanti a Dio.

14 T he voice said to the sixth angel who had the horn, “Let the four angels loose that have been chained at the big river Euphrates.”

La voce diceva al sesto angelo che aveva la tromba: «Sciogli i quattro angeli che sono legati sul gran fiume Eufrate».

15 T hey had been kept ready for that hour and day and month and year. They were let loose so they could kill one-third part of all men that were living.

E furono sciolti i quattro angeli che erano stati preparati per quell’ora, quel giorno, quel mese e quell’anno, per uccidere la terza parte degli uomini.

16 T he army had 200 million soldiers on horses. I heard them say how many there were.

Il numero dei soldati a cavallo era di duecento milioni e io udii il loro numero.

17 I saw, as God wanted to show me, the horses and the men on them. The men had pieces of iron over their chests. These were red like fire and blue like the sky and yellow like sulphur. The heads of the horses looked like the heads of lions. Fire and smoke and sulphur came out of their mouths.

Ed ecco come mi apparvero nella visione i cavalli e quelli che li cavalcavano: avevano delle corazze color di fuoco, di giacinto e di zolfo; i cavalli avevano delle teste simili a quelle dei leoni e dalle loro bocche usciva fuoco, fumo e zolfo.

18 O ne-third part of all men was killed by the fire and smoke and sulphur that came out of their mouths.

Un terzo degli uomini fu ucciso da questi tre flagelli: dal fuoco, dal fumo e dallo zolfo che uscivano dalle bocche dei cavalli.

19 T he power of the horses was in their mouths and in their tails. Their tails were like the heads of snakes and with them they could bite and kill.

Il potere dei cavalli era nella loro bocca e nelle loro code; perché le loro code erano simili a serpenti e avevano delle teste, e con esse ferivano.

20 T he men that were still living after these troubles were past would not turn away from worshiping demons. They would not turn away from false gods made from gold and silver and brass and stone and wood. None of these false gods can see or hear or walk.

Il resto degli uomini che non furono uccisi da questi flagelli non si ravvidero dalle opere delle loro mani; non cessarono di adorare i demòni e gli idoli d’oro, d’argento, di bronzo, di pietra e di legno, che non possono né vedere, né udire, né camminare.

21 T hese men were not sorry for their sins and would not turn away from all their killing and their witchcraft. They would not stop their sex sins and their stealing.

Non si ravvidero neppure dai loro omicidi, né dalle loro magie, né dalla loro fornicazione, né dai loro furti.
