1 T he Lord said to Moses, “Cut two pieces of stone like the first ones. And I will write on the stones the words that were on the first stones which you broke.

Il Signore disse a Mosè: «Taglia due tavole di pietra come le prime; e io scriverò sulle tavole le parole che erano sulle prime due tavole che hai spezzato.

2 S o be ready in the morning. Come up in the morning to Mount Sinai. And stand before Me on the top of the mountain.

Sii pronto domani mattina, e sali, al mattino, sul monte Sinai e presèntati a me sulla vetta del monte.

3 N o one is to come up with you. Do not let anyone be seen on the whole mountain. Even the sheep and the cattle may not eat in front of the mountain.”

Nessuno salga con te, e non si veda alcuno su tutto il monte; greggi e armenti non pascolino nei pressi di questo monte».

4 S o Moses cut two pieces of stone like the first ones. Then he got up early in the morning and went up on Mount Sinai, as the Lord told him. And he took the two pieces of stone in his hand.

Mosè, dunque, tagliò due tavole di pietra come le prime; si alzò la mattina di buon’ora, salì sul monte Sinai come il Signore gli aveva comandato, e prese in mano le due tavole di pietra.

5 T he Lord came down in the cloud and stood there with Moses as he called upon the name of the Lord.

Il Signore discese nella nuvola, si fermò con lui e proclamò il nome del Signore.

6 T hen the Lord passed by in front of him, saying, “The Lord, the Lord God, with loving-pity and loving-favor, slow to anger, filled with loving-kindness and truth,

Il Signore passò davanti a lui, e gridò: «Il Signore! il Signore! il Dio misericordioso e pietoso, lento all’ira, ricco in bontà e fedeltà,

7 k eeping loving-kindness for thousands, forgiving wrong-doing and sin. But He will not let the guilty go without being punished. He brings the sin of fathers down upon the children, even the great-grandchildren.”

che conserva la sua bontà fino alla millesima generazione, che perdona l’iniquità, la trasgressione e il peccato, ma non terrà il colpevole per innocente; che punisce l’iniquità dei padri sopra i figli e sopra i figli dei figli, fino alla terza e alla quarta generazione!»

8 M oses was quick to put his face to the ground and worship.

Mosè subito s’inchinò fino a terra e adorò.

9 A nd Moses said, “O Lord, if I have found favor in Your eyes, I pray, let the Lord go with us, even if the people are strong-willed. Forgive our wrong-doing and our sin. And take us for Your own.” The Agreement Made Alive Again

Poi disse: «Ti prego, Signore, se ho trovato grazia agli occhi tuoi, venga il Signore in mezzo a noi, perché questo è un popolo dal collo duro; perdona la nostra iniquità, il nostro peccato e prendici come tua eredità».

10 T hen God said, “See, I am going to make an agreement. I will do powerful works in front of all your people which have never been done on earth among any nation. All the people with whom you live will see the work of the Lord. For what I am going to do with you will fill people with fear.

Il Signore rispose: «Ecco, io faccio un patto: farò davanti a tutto il tuo popolo meraviglie, quali non sono mai state fatte su tutta la terra né in alcuna nazione; tutto il popolo in mezzo al quale ti trovi vedrà l’opera del Signore, perché tremendo è quello che io sto per fare per mezzo di te.

11 B e sure to do what I am telling you this day. See, I am going to drive out of your way the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite.

Osserva quello che oggi ti comando: ecco, io scaccerò davanti a te gli Amorei, i Cananei, gli Ittiti, i Ferezei, gli Ivvei e i Gebusei.

12 T ake care to make no agreement with the people of the land where you are going. It would be a trap to you.

Guàrdati dal fare alleanza con gli abitanti del paese nel quale stai per andare, perché non diventino, in mezzo a te, una trappola;

13 I nstead you are to tear down their altars, break their objects of worship, and cut down their false gods.

ma demolite i loro altari, frantumate le loro colonne, abbattete i loro idoli;

14 F or you must not worship any other god. For the Lord, Whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.

tu non adorerai altro dio, perché il Signore, che si chiama il Geloso, è un Dio geloso.

15 S o do not make an agreement with the people of the land. Or when they follow their desire with their gods and give gifts to their gods, they would ask you to eat of their gift used in worship.

Guàrdati dal fare alleanza con gli abitanti del paese, altrimenti, quando quelli si prostituiranno ai loro dèi e offriranno sacrifici ai loro dèi, potrà avvenire che essi t’invitino e tu mangi dei loro sacrifici,

16 A nd you would marry your sons to their daughters who follow their gods. And they would lead your sons to follow their gods also.

prenda delle loro figlie per i tuoi figli, e le loro figlie si prostituiscano ai loro dèi e inducano i tuoi figli a prostituirsi ai loro dèi.

17 D o not make any gods for yourself.

Non ti farai dèi di metallo fuso.

18 “ Keep the special supper of bread without yeast. Eat bread without yeast for seven days as I told you, at the time set aside for it in the month of Abib. For you came out of Egypt in the month of Abib.

«Osserverai la festa degli Azzimi. Per sette giorni, al tempo fissato del mese di Abib, mangerai pane azzimo, come ti ho ordinato; poiché nel mese di Abib tu sei uscito dall’Egitto.

19 E very first-born belongs to Me, and all your male animals, the first-born from cattle and sheep.

Ogni primogenito è mio; mio è ogni primo parto maschio di tutto il tuo bestiame: del bestiame grosso e minuto.

20 B ut the life of a first-born donkey should be paid for with the blood of a lamb. If you do not pay for its life, you should break its neck. Pay for the life of all your first-born sons with the blood of a lamb. No one is to come before Me without a gift.

Ma riscatterai con un agnello il primo nato dell’asino; e, se non lo vorrai riscattare, gli romperai il collo. Riscatterai ogni primogenito dei tuoi figli. Nessuno comparirà davanti a me a mani vuote.

21 “ Work six days, but rest on the seventh day. Rest even during plowing time and gathering time.

Lavorerai sei giorni; ma il settimo giorno ti riposerai: ti riposerai anche al tempo dell’aratura e della mietitura.

22 H ave the special supper of weeks at the first gathering of grain. Have the special supper of gathering time at the end of the year.

Celebrerai la festa delle Settimane, cioè delle primizie della mietitura del frumento, e la festa della Raccolta alla fine dell’anno.

23 T hree times a year all your males are to come before the Lord God, the God of Israel.

Tre volte all’anno ogni vostro maschio comparirà alla presenza del Signore Dio, che è il Dio d’Israele.

24 F or I will drive nations out of your way and give you more land. No man will desire to have your land when you go to show yourselves before the Lord your God.

Io scaccerò davanti a te delle nazioni e allargherò i tuoi confini; nessuno oserà appropriarsi del tuo paese, quando salirai, tre volte all’anno, per comparire alla presenza del Signore, che è il tuo Dio.

25 “ Do not give the blood of My gift together with bread made with yeast. Do not leave any of the gift of the special supper of the Passover until morning.

Non offrirai con pane lievitato il sangue della vittima immolata a me, e il sacrificio della festa di Pasqua non sarà conservato fino al mattino.

26 B ring the first of the first-fruits of your ground into the house of the Lord your God. Do not boil the meat of a young goat in its mother’s milk.”

Porterai alla casa del Signore, il tuo Dio, le primizie dei primi frutti della tua terra. Non cuocerai il capretto nel latte di sua madre».

27 T he Lord said to Moses, “Write these words. For by these words I have made an agreement with you and with Israel.”

Poi il Signore disse a Mosè: «Scrivi queste parole; perché sul fondamento di queste parole io ho fatto un patto con te e con Israele».

28 M oses was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights. He did not eat bread or drink water. And he wrote on the stones the words of the agreement, the Ten Great Laws. Moses Goes Down from Mount Sinai

E Mosè rimase lì con il Signore quaranta giorni e quaranta notti; non mangiò pane e non bevve acqua. E il Signore scrisse sulle tavole le parole del patto, i dieci comandamenti. Le nuove tavole della legge

29 M oses came down from Mount Sinai with the two stone writings in his hand. He did not know that the skin of his face was shining because of his speaking with the Lord.

Poi Mosè scese dal monte Sinai. Egli aveva in mano le due tavole della testimonianza quando scese dal monte. Mosè non sapeva che la pelle del suo viso era diventata tutta raggiante mentre egli parlava con il Signore.

30 W hen Aaron and all the people of Israel saw Moses, they saw that the skin of his face was shining. They were afraid to come near him.

Aaronne e tutti i figli d’Israele guardarono Mosè, e videro che la pelle del suo viso era tutta raggiante. Perciò ebbero paura di avvicinarsi a lui.

31 B ut Moses called to them, and Aaron and all the leaders of the people returned to him. And Moses spoke to them.

Ma Mosè li chiamò, e Aaronne e tutti i capi della comunità tornarono a lui, e Mosè parlò loro.

32 A fter this all the people of Israel came near. Moses told them to do all the Lord had said to him on Mount Sinai.

Dopo questo, tutti i figli d’Israele si avvicinarono, ed egli impose loro tutto quello che il Signore gli aveva detto sul monte Sinai.

33 W hen Moses had finished speaking with them, he covered his face with a piece of cloth.

Quando Mosè ebbe finito di parlare con loro, si mise un velo sulla faccia.

34 B ut whenever Moses went before the Lord to speak with Him, he would take off the face covering until he came out. Then he would tell the people of Israel what the Lord had said for them to do.

Ma quando Mosè entrava alla presenza del Signore per parlare con lui, si toglieva il velo, finché non tornava fuori; poi tornava fuori e diceva ai figli d’Israele quello che gli era stato comandato.

35 T he people of Israel saw that the skin of Moses’ face shone. So Moses would put the covering over his face again until he went in to speak with the Lord.

I figli d’Israele, guardando la faccia di Mosè, vedevano la sua pelle tutta raggiante; Mosè si rimetteva il velo sulla faccia, finché non entrava a parlare con il Signore.
