1 O God, the nations have come into the land of Your people. They have made Your holy house dirty. They have crushed the walls and buildings of Jerusalem.

2 T hey have given the dead bodies of Your servants to the birds of the heavens for food. The flesh of those who belong to You has been given to the wild animals of the earth.

3 T hey have poured out their blood like water all around Jerusalem. And there was no one to bury them.

Hanno sparso il loro sangue come acqua intorno a Gerusalemme e non c’è stato alcuno che li seppellisse.

4 W e have become a shame to our neighbors. Those around us laugh at and make fun of us.

Noi siamo diventati oggetto di derisione per i nostri vicini, oggetto di scherno e di derisione per quelli che ci circondano.

5 H ow long, O Lord? Will You be angry forever? Will Your jealousy burn like fire?

Fino a quando, Signore, sarai tu adirato? La tua gelosia arderà come fuoco per sempre?

6 P our out Your anger on the nations that do not know You, and on the nations that do not call on Your name.

Riversa l’ira tua sulle nazioni che non ti conoscono e sui regni che non invocano il tuo nome,

7 F or they have destroyed Jacob. They have laid waste the place where he lived.

poiché hanno divorato Giacobbe e hanno devastato la sua dimora.

8 D o not hold the sins of our fathers against us. Let Your loving-pity come fast to meet us. For we are in much need.

Non ricordare a nostro danno le colpe dei nostri antenati; affrèttati, ci vengano incontro le tue compassioni, poiché siamo molto afflitti.

9 O God Who saves us, help us for the honor of Your name. Take us out of trouble and forgive our sins, for the honor of Your name.

Soccorrici, o Dio della nostra salvezza, per la gloria del tuo nome; liberaci, e perdona i nostri peccati, per amore del tuo nome.

10 W hy should the nations say, “Where is their God?” Make it known among the nations, in front of our eyes, that You punish for the blood that has poured from Your servants.

Perché direbbero i popoli: «Dov’è il loro Dio?» Si conosca tra le nazioni, sotto i nostri occhi, la vendetta per il sangue dei tuoi servi, che è stato sparso.

11 H ear the cries of those in prison. By the greatness of Your power, save those who are being sent to death.

Giunga fino a te il gemito dei prigionieri; secondo la potenza del tuo braccio, salva quelli che sono condannati a morte.

12 A nd return to our neighbors seven times the shame that they have brought You, O Lord.

Restituisci ai nostri vicini sette volte tanto l’oltraggio che ti hanno fatto, o Signore!

13 T hen we Your people, the sheep of Your field, will give thanks to You forever. We will tell of Your praise to all the people of all times.

E noi, tuo popolo e gregge del tuo pascolo, ti celebreremo in eterno, proclameremo la tua lode per ogni età.
