1 N ow the word of the Lord came to Jehu the son of Hanani against Baasha, saying,

La parola del Signore fu rivolta a Ieu, figlio di Canani, contro Baasa, in questi termini:

2 “ I took you from the dust and gave you honor. I made you leader over My people Israel. But you have walked in the way of Jeroboam and have made My people Israel sin. You have made Me angry with their sins.

«Io ti ho innalzato dalla polvere e ti ho fatto principe del mio popolo Israele, ma tu hai seguito la via di Geroboamo e hai spinto il mio popolo Israele a peccare, provocando il mio sdegno con i suoi peccati;

3 S o I will destroy Baasha and his house. I will make your house like the family of Jeroboam the son of Nebat.

perciò io spazzerò via Baasa e la sua casa, e farò della tua casa quel che ho fatto della casa di Geroboamo, figlio di Nebat.

4 T he dogs will eat anyone of Baasha’s family who dies in the city. And the birds of the air will eat anyone of his who dies in the field.”

Quelli di Baasa che moriranno in città saranno divorati dai cani, e quelli che moriranno nei campi saranno divorati dagli uccelli del cielo».

6 B aasha died and was buried in Tirzah. His son Elah became king in his place.

7 T he word of the Lord came against Baasha and his house through the man who spoke for God, Jehu the son of Hanani because Baasha had done what was sinful in the eyes of the Lord. La parola del Signore, per mezzo del profeta Ieu, figlio di Canani, fu diretta contro Baasa e contro la casa di lui, per tutto il male che Baasa aveva fatto sotto gli occhi del Signore, provocandolo a ira, con l’opera delle sue mani, perché aveva imitato la casa di Geroboamo e aveva sterminato quella casa. 8 I n the twenty-sixth year of Asa king of Judah, Elah the son of Baasha became king of Israel at Tirzah. He ruled for two years.

Il ventiseiesimo anno di Asa, re di Giuda, Ela, figlio di Baasa, cominciò a regnare sopra Israele. Stava a Tirsa, e regnò due anni.

9 H is servant Zimri, captain of half his war-wagons, made plans against him. Elah was at Tirzah drinking himself drunk in the family of Arza. Arza was the head of the house at Tirzah.

Zimri, suo servitore, che comandava la metà dei suoi carri, congiurò contro di lui. Ela stava a Tirsa, bevendo e ubriacandosi in casa di Arsa, sovrintendente del palazzo di Tirsa.

10 Z imri went in and hit him and killed him, in the twenty-seventh year of Asa king of Judah. And Zimri became king in his place.

11 W hen he became king, as soon as he sat on his throne, he killed all those of Baasha’s house. He did not leave alive one male, of his brothers or of his friends.

12 S o Zimri destroyed the whole family of Baasha, as was spoken against Baasha by the word of the Lord through Jehu the man who spoke for God.

Così Zimri sterminò tutta la casa di Baasa, secondo la parola che il Signore aveva pronunciata contro Baasa per bocca del profeta Ieu,

13 I t happened because of all the sins of Baasha and his son Elah. They sinned and they made Israel sin. They made the Lord God of Israel angry with their false gods.

a causa di tutti i peccati che Baasa ed Ela, suo figlio, avevano commessi e fatto commettere a Israele, provocando l’ira del Signore, Dio d’Israele, con i loro idoli.

15 I n the twenty-seventh year of Asa king of Judah, Zimri ruled seven days at Tirzah. Now the people were gathered against Gibbethon, which belonged to the Philistines.

Il ventisettesimo anno di Asa, re di Giuda, Zimri regnò per sette giorni a Tirsa. Il popolo era accampato contro Ghibbeton, città dei Filistei.

16 T he people who were gathered heard it said, “Zimri has made plans and has killed the king.” So all Israel made Omri, the captain of the army, the king of Israel that day among the tents.

Il popolo accampato in quel luogo sentì dire: «Zimri ha fatto una congiura e ha perfino ucciso il re!» E quello stesso giorno, nell’accampamento, tutto Israele fece re d’Israele Omri, capo dell’esercito.

17 T hen Omri went with all Israel up from Gibbethon, and they gathered in battle around Tirzah.

18 W hen Zimri saw that the city was taken, he went into an inside room of the king’s house. And he burned the king’s house over him with fire, and died.

19 H e died because of his sins. He did what was sinful in the eyes of the Lord, walking in the way of Jeroboam. And in his sin, he made Israel sin.

21 T hen the people of Israel were divided into two parts. Half of the people followed Tibni the son of Ginath, to make him king. The other half followed Omri.

22 B ut the people who followed Omri won over the people who followed Tibni the son of Ginath. Tibni died and Omri became king.

Ma il popolo che seguiva Omri prevalse su quello che seguiva Tibni, figlio di Ghinat. Tibni morì e regnò Omri. Omri, re d’Israele; Samaria, capitale del regno

23 I n the thirty-first year of Asa king of Judah, Omri became the king of Israel. He ruled for twelve years. He ruled six years at Tirzah.

Il trentunesimo anno di Asa, re di Giuda, Omri cominciò a regnare sopra Israele, e regnò dodici anni. Regnò sei anni a Tirsa.

24 A nd he bought the hill of Samaria from Shemer for silver weighing as much as two men. He built on the hill, and gave the city he built the name of Samaria, after the name of Shemer, the owner of the hill.

Poi comprò da Semer il monte di Samaria per due talenti d’argento; costruì su quel monte una città; e alla città che costruì diede il nome di Samaria dal nome di Semer, padrone del monte.

25 O mri did what was sinful in the eyes of the Lord. He acted worse than all who were before him.

Omri fece ciò che è male agli occhi del Signore e fece peggio di tutti i suoi predecessori;

26 F or he walked in all the way of Jeroboam the son of Nebat. And in his sin he made Israel sin. They made the Lord God of Israel angry with their false gods.

seguì in tutto la via di Geroboamo, figlio di Nebat, e si abbandonò ai peccati che Geroboamo aveva fatto commettere a Israele, provocando lo sdegno del Signore, Dio d’Israele, con i suoi idoli.

28 O mri died and was buried in Samaria. His son Ahab became king in his place. Ahab Rules Israel

Omri si addormentò con i suoi padri e fu sepolto a Samaria; e Acab, suo figlio, regnò al suo posto. Acab, re d’Israele; matrimonio con Izebel

29 O mri’s son Ahab became king of Israel in the thirty-eighth year of Asa king of Judah. He ruled over Israel in Samaria for twenty-two years.

Acab, figlio di Omri, cominciò a regnare sopra Israele l’anno trentottesimo di Asa, re di Giuda; e regnò a Samaria, sopra Israele, per ventidue anni.

30 A hab the son of Omri did what was sinful in the eyes of the Lord more than all who were before him.

Acab, figlio di Omri, fece ciò che è male agli occhi del Signore più di tutti quelli che l’avevano preceduto.

31 H e thought it was a small thing to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat. He married Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Sidonians. Then he went to serve the false god Baal and worshiped him.

Come se fosse stato per lui poca cosa abbandonarsi ai peccati di Geroboamo, figlio di Nebat, prese in moglie Izebel, figlia di Etbaal, re dei Sidoni, andò ad adorare Baal, a prostrarsi davanti a lui,

32 H e built an altar for Baal in the house of Baal, which he built in Samaria.

e innalzò un altare a Baal, nel tempio di Baal, che costruì a Samaria.

33 A hab made an object of wood to look like the false goddess Asherah. So Ahab did more to make the Lord God of Israel angry than all the kings of Israel before him.

Acab fece anche l’idolo di Astarte. Acab fece più di quello che avevano fatto tutti i precedenti re d’Israele per provocare lo sdegno del Signore, Dio d’Israele.

34 I n his days Hiel the Bethelite built Jericho. His first-born son Abiram died as he began to build the city. His youngest son Segub died as he put up its gates. It happened as it was told by the word of the Lord spoken by Joshua the son of Nun.

Al tempo di lui, Chiel, di Betel, ricostruì Gerico; ne gettò le fondamenta su Abiram, suo primogenito, e ne rizzò le porte su Segub, il più giovane dei suoi figli, secondo la parola che il Signore aveva pronunciata per bocca di Giosuè, figlio di Nun.
