1 Y ahweh’s word came to Jehu the son of Hanani against Baasha, saying,

2 “ Because I exalted you out of the dust, and made you prince over my people Israel, and you have walked in the way of Jeroboam, and have made my people Israel to sin, to provoke me to anger with their sins;

3 b ehold, I will utterly sweep away Baasha and his house; and I will make your house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat.

perciò io spazzerò via Baasa e la sua casa, e farò della tua casa quel che ho fatto della casa di Geroboamo, figlio di Nebat.

4 T he dogs will eat Baasha’s descendants who die in the city; and he who dies of his in the field, the birds of the sky will eat.”

6 B aasha slept with his fathers, and was buried in Tirzah; and Elah his son reigned in his place.

7 M oreover Yahweh’s word came by the prophet Jehu the son of Hanani against Baasha and against his house, both because of all the evil that he did in Yahweh’s sight, to provoke him to anger with the work of his hands, in being like the house of Jeroboam, and because he struck him.

La parola del Signore, per mezzo del profeta Ieu, figlio di Canani, fu diretta contro Baasa e contro la casa di lui, per tutto il male che Baasa aveva fatto sotto gli occhi del Signore, provocandolo a ira, con l’opera delle sue mani, perché aveva imitato la casa di Geroboamo e aveva sterminato quella casa. 8 I n the twenty-sixth year of Asa king of Judah, Elah the son of Baasha began to reign over Israel in Tirzah for two years.

Il ventiseiesimo anno di Asa, re di Giuda, Ela, figlio di Baasa, cominciò a regnare sopra Israele. Stava a Tirsa, e regnò due anni.

9 H is servant Zimri, captain of half his chariots, conspired against him. Now he was in Tirzah, drinking himself drunk in the house of Arza, who was over the household in Tirzah;

10 a nd Zimri went in and struck him, and killed him, in the twenty-seventh year of Asa king of Judah, and reigned in his place.

11 W hen he began to reign, as soon as he sat on his throne, he attacked all the house of Baasha. He didn’t leave him a single one who urinates on a wall among his relatives or his friends.

12 T hus Zimri destroyed all the house of Baasha, according to Yahweh’s word, which he spoke against Baasha by Jehu the prophet,

13 f or all the sins of Baasha, and the sins of Elah his son, which they sinned, and with which they made Israel to sin, to provoke Yahweh, the God of Israel, to anger with their vanities.

15 I n the twenty-seventh year of Asa king of Judah, Zimri reigned seven days in Tirzah. Now the people were encamped against Gibbethon, which belonged to the Philistines.

Il ventisettesimo anno di Asa, re di Giuda, Zimri regnò per sette giorni a Tirsa. Il popolo era accampato contro Ghibbeton, città dei Filistei.

16 T he people who were encamped heard that Zimri had conspired, and had also killed the king. Therefore all Israel made Omri, the captain of the army, king over Israel that day in the camp.

Il popolo accampato in quel luogo sentì dire: «Zimri ha fatto una congiura e ha perfino ucciso il re!» E quello stesso giorno, nell’accampamento, tutto Israele fece re d’Israele Omri, capo dell’esercito.

17 O mri went up from Gibbethon, and all Israel with him, and they besieged Tirzah.

18 W hen Zimri saw that the city was taken, he went into the fortified part of the king’s house, and burnt the king’s house over him with fire, and died,

19 f or his sins which he sinned in doing that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight, in walking in the way of Jeroboam, and in his sin which he did, to make Israel to sin.

21 T hen the people of Israel were divided into two parts: half of the people followed Tibni the son of Ginath, to make him king; and half followed Omri.

23 I n the thirty-first year of Asa king of Judah, Omri began to reign over Israel for twelve years. He reigned six years in Tirzah.

Il trentunesimo anno di Asa, re di Giuda, Omri cominciò a regnare sopra Israele, e regnò dodici anni. Regnò sei anni a Tirsa.

24 H e bought the hill Samaria of Shemer for two talents of silver; and he built on the hill, and called the name of the city which he built Samaria, after the name of Shemer, the owner of the hill.

Poi comprò da Semer il monte di Samaria per due talenti d’argento; costruì su quel monte una città; e alla città che costruì diede il nome di Samaria dal nome di Semer, padrone del monte.

25 O mri did that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight, and dealt wickedly above all who were before him.

Omri fece ciò che è male agli occhi del Signore e fece peggio di tutti i suoi predecessori;

26 F or he walked in all the way of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and in his sins with which he made Israel to sin, to provoke Yahweh, the God of Israel, to anger with their vanities.

seguì in tutto la via di Geroboamo, figlio di Nebat, e si abbandonò ai peccati che Geroboamo aveva fatto commettere a Israele, provocando lo sdegno del Signore, Dio d’Israele, con i suoi idoli.

28 S o Omri slept with his fathers, and was buried in Samaria; and Ahab his son reigned in his place.

29 I n the thirty-eighth year of Asa king of Judah, Ahab the son of Omri began to reign over Israel. Ahab the son of Omri reigned over Israel in Samaria twenty-two years.

Acab, figlio di Omri, cominciò a regnare sopra Israele l’anno trentottesimo di Asa, re di Giuda; e regnò a Samaria, sopra Israele, per ventidue anni.

30 A hab the son of Omri did that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight above all that were before him.

Acab, figlio di Omri, fece ciò che è male agli occhi del Signore più di tutti quelli che l’avevano preceduto.

31 A s if it had been a light thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, he took as wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Sidonians, and went and served Baal, and worshiped him.

Come se fosse stato per lui poca cosa abbandonarsi ai peccati di Geroboamo, figlio di Nebat, prese in moglie Izebel, figlia di Etbaal, re dei Sidoni, andò ad adorare Baal, a prostrarsi davanti a lui,

32 H e raised up an altar for Baal in the house of Baal, which he had built in Samaria.

e innalzò un altare a Baal, nel tempio di Baal, che costruì a Samaria.

33 A hab made the Asherah; and Ahab did more yet to provoke Yahweh, the God of Israel, to anger than all the kings of Israel who were before him.

Acab fece anche l’idolo di Astarte. Acab fece più di quello che avevano fatto tutti i precedenti re d’Israele per provocare lo sdegno del Signore, Dio d’Israele.

34 I n his days Hiel the Bethelite built Jericho. He laid its foundation with the loss of Abiram his firstborn, and set up its gates with the loss of his youngest son Segub, according to Yahweh’s word, which he spoke by Joshua the son of Nun.

Al tempo di lui, Chiel, di Betel, ricostruì Gerico; ne gettò le fondamenta su Abiram, suo primogenito, e ne rizzò le porte su Segub, il più giovane dei suoi figli, secondo la parola che il Signore aveva pronunciata per bocca di Giosuè, figlio di Nun.
