1 F or, behold, the Lord, Yahweh of Armies, takes away from Jerusalem and from Judah supply and support, the whole supply of bread, and the whole supply of water;

2 t he mighty man, the man of war, the judge, the prophet, the diviner, the elder,

3 t he captain of fifty, the honorable man, the counselor, the skilled craftsman, and the clever enchanter.

4 I will give boys to be their princes, and children shall rule over them.

Io darò loro dei ragazzini come prìncipi, e dei bambini domineranno su di essi.

5 T he people will be oppressed, everyone by another, and everyone by his neighbor. The child will behave himself proudly against the old man, and the base against the honorable.

Il popolo sarà oppresso, uomo da uomo, ciascuno dal suo prossimo; il giovane sarà arrogante con il vecchio, l’infame contro colui che è onorato.

6 I ndeed a man shall take hold of his brother in the house of his father, saying, “You have clothing, you be our ruler, and let this ruin be under your hand.”

Quando uno prenderà il fratello nella sua casa paterna e gli dirà: «Tu hai un mantello, sii nostro capo, prendi in mano queste rovine»,

7 I n that day he will cry out, saying, “I will not be a healer; for in my house is neither bread nor clothing. You shall not make me ruler of the people.”

egli, in quel giorno, alzerà la voce e dirà: «Io non sarò vostro medico, nella mia casa non c’è né pane né mantello; non fatemi capo del popolo!»

8 F or Jerusalem is ruined, and Judah is fallen; because their tongue and their doings are against Yahweh, to provoke the eyes of his glory.

Infatti Gerusalemme vacilla e Giuda crolla, perché la loro lingua e le loro opere sono contro il Signore, al punto da provocare l’ira del suo sguardo maestoso.

9 T he look of their faces testify against them. They parade their sin like Sodom. They don’t hide it. Woe to their soul! For they have brought disaster upon themselves.

L’aspetto del loro volto testimonia contro di essi, proclamano il loro peccato, come Sodoma; non lo nascondono. Guai a loro, perché procurano a se stessi del male.

10 T ell the righteous “Good!” For they shall eat the fruit of their deeds.

Ditelo che il giusto avrà del bene, perché egli mangerà il frutto delle sue opere!

11 W oe to the wicked! Disaster is upon them; for the deeds of his hands will be paid back to him.

Guai all’empio! Il male ricadrà sul suo capo, perché gli sarà reso quanto le sue mani hanno fatto.

12 A s for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. My people, those who lead you cause you to err, and destroy the way of your paths.

Il mio popolo ha come oppressori dei bambini, e delle donne dominano su di lui. Popolo mio, coloro che ti guidano ti sviano e distruggono il sentiero per cui devi passare!

13 Y ahweh stands up to contend, and stands to judge the peoples.

Il Signore si presenta per discutere la causa, e sta in piedi per giudicare i popoli.

14 Y ahweh will enter into judgment with the elders of his people, and their leaders: “It is you who have eaten up the vineyard. The plunder of the poor is in your houses.

16 M oreover Yahweh said, “Because the daughters of Zion are haughty, and walk with outstretched necks and flirting eyes, walking to trip as they go, jingling ornaments on their feet;

17 t herefore the Lord brings sores on the crown of the head of the women of Zion, and Yahweh will make their scalps bald.”

18 I n that day the Lord will take away the beauty of their anklets, the headbands, the crescent necklaces,

19 t he earrings, the bracelets, the veils,

degli orecchini, dei braccialetti, dei veli,

20 t he headdresses, the ankle chains, the sashes, the perfume bottles, the charms,

dei diademi, delle catenelle dei piedi, delle cinture, dei vasetti di profumo, degli amuleti,

21 t he signet rings, the nose rings,

degli anelli, dei cerchietti da naso,

22 t he fine robes, the capes, the cloaks, the purses,

degli abiti da festa, delle mantelline, degli scialli, delle borse,

23 t he hand mirrors, the fine linen garments, the tiaras, and the shawls.

degli specchi, delle camicie finissime, dei turbanti e delle mantiglie.

24 I t shall happen that instead of sweet spices, there shall be rottenness; instead of a belt, a rope; instead of well set hair, baldness; instead of a robe, a wearing of sackcloth; and branding instead of beauty.

Invece di profumo si avrà fetore; invece di cintura, una corda; invece di riccioli, calvizie; invece di un ampio mantello, un sacco stretto; un marchio di fuoco invece di bellezza.

25 Y our men shall fall by the sword, and your mighty in the war.

I tuoi uomini cadranno di spada, e i tuoi prodi in battaglia.

26 H er gates shall lament and mourn; and she shall be desolate and sit on the ground.

Le porte di Sion gemeranno e saranno in lutto; tutta desolata, siederà per terra.
