1 S o these three men ceased to answer Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes.

Quei tre uomini cessarono di rispondere a Giobbe, perché egli si credeva giusto.

2 T hen the wrath of Elihu the son of Barachel, the Buzite, of the family of Ram, was kindled against Job. His wrath was kindled because he justified himself rather than God.

Allora l’ira di Eliu, figlio di Baracheel il Buzita, della tribù di Ram, si accese.

3 A lso his wrath was kindled against his three friends, because they had found no answer, and yet had condemned Job.

La sua ira si accese contro Giobbe, perché questi riteneva che la propria giustizia fosse superiore a quella di Dio; si accese anche contro i tre amici di lui perché non avevano trovato che rispondere, sebbene condannassero Giobbe.

4 N ow Elihu had waited to speak to Job, because they were elder than he.

Ora, siccome quelli erano più anziani di lui,

5 W hen Elihu saw that there was no answer in the mouth of these three men, his wrath was kindled.

Eliu aveva aspettato a parlare a Giobbe; ma quando vide che dalla bocca di quei tre uomini non usciva più risposta, si accese d’ira.

6 E lihu the son of Barachel the Buzite answered, “I am young, and you are very old; Therefore I held back, and didn’t dare show you my opinion.

Eliu, figlio di Baracheel il Buzita, rispose e disse: «Io sono giovane d’età e voi siete vecchi; perciò mi sono tenuto indietro e non ho ardito esporvi il mio pensiero.

7 I said, ‘Days should speak, and multitude of years should teach wisdom.’

Dicevo: “Parleranno i giorni, il gran numero degli anni insegnerà la saggezza”.

8 B ut there is a spirit in man, and the breath of the Almighty gives them understanding.

Ma quel che rende intelligente l’uomo è lo spirito, è il soffio dell’Onnipotente.

9 I t is not the great who are wise, nor the aged who understand justice.

Non quelli di lunga età sono saggi, né i vecchi sono quelli che comprendono il giusto.

10 T herefore I said, ‘Listen to me; I also will show my opinion.’

Perciò dico: “Ascoltatemi; vi esporrò anch’io il mio pensiero”.

11 “ Behold, I waited for your words, and I listened for your reasoning, while you searched out what to say.

Ecco, ho aspettato i vostri discorsi, ho ascoltato i vostri argomenti, mentre andavate cercando altre parole.

12 Y es, I gave you my full attention, but there was no one who convinced Job, or who answered his words, among you.

Vi ho seguito attentamente, ed ecco, nessuno di voi ha convinto Giobbe, nessuno ha risposto alle sue parole.

13 B eware lest you say, ‘We have found wisdom, God may refute him, not man;’

Non avete dunque ragione di dire: “Abbiamo trovato la saggezza! Dio soltanto lo farà cedere; non l’uomo!”

14 f or he has not directed his words against me; neither will I answer him with your speeches.

Egli non ha diretto i suoi discorsi contro di me e io non gli risponderò con le vostre parole.

15 “ They are amazed. They answer no more. They don’t have a word to say.

Eccoli sconcertati! Non rispondono più, non trovano più parole.

16 S hall I wait, because they don’t speak, because they stand still, and answer no more?

Ho aspettato che non parlassero più, che tacessero e non rispondessero più.

17 I also will answer my part, and I also will show my opinion.

Ma ora risponderò anch’io per mio conto, esporrò anch’io il mio pensiero!

18 F or I am full of words. The spirit within me constrains me.

Perché sono pieno di parole, lo spirito che è dentro di me mi stimola.

19 B ehold, my breast is as wine which has no vent; like new wineskins it is ready to burst.

Ecco, il mio intimo è come vino rinchiuso, è simile a otri pieni di vino nuovo, che stanno per scoppiare.

20 I will speak, that I may be refreshed. I will open my lips and answer.

Parlerò dunque e mi sentirò meglio, aprirò le labbra e risponderò!

21 P lease don’t let me respect any man’s person, neither will I give flattering titles to any man.

Lasciate che io parli senza riguardi personali, senza adulare nessuno;

22 F or I don’t know how to give flattering titles; or else my Maker would soon take me away.

poiché adulare io non so; se lo facessi, il mio Creatore presto mi toglierebbe di mezzo.
