1 H e began to speak to them in parables. “A man planted a vineyard, put a hedge around it, dug a pit for the wine press, built a tower, rented it out to a farmer, and went into another country.

Poi cominciò a parlare loro in parabole: «Un uomo piantò una vigna, le fece attorno una siepe, vi scavò una buca per pigiare l’uva e vi costruì una torre; l’affittò a dei vignaiuoli e se ne andò in viaggio.

2 W hen it was time, he sent a servant to the farmer to get from the farmer his share of the fruit of the vineyard.

Al tempo della raccolta mandò a quei vignaiuoli un servo per ricevere da loro la sua parte dei frutti della vigna.

3 T hey took him, beat him, and sent him away empty.

Ma essi lo presero, lo picchiarono e lo rimandarono a mani vuote.

4 A gain, he sent another servant to them; and they threw stones at him, wounded him in the head, and sent him away shamefully treated.

Egli mandò loro un altro servo; e anche questo insultarono e ferirono alla testa.

5 A gain he sent another; and they killed him; and many others, beating some, and killing some.

Egli ne mandò un altro, e quelli lo uccisero; poi molti altri, che picchiarono o uccisero.

6 T herefore still having one, his beloved son, he sent him last to them, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’

Aveva ancora un figlio diletto; glielo mandò per ultimo, dicendo: “Avranno rispetto per mio figlio”.

7 B ut those farmers said among themselves, ‘This is the heir. Come, let’s kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.’

Ma quei vignaiuoli dissero tra di loro: “Costui è l’erede; venite, uccidiamolo e l’eredità sarà nostra”.

8 T hey took him, killed him, and cast him out of the vineyard.

Così lo presero, lo uccisero e lo gettarono fuori dalla vigna.

9 W hat therefore will the lord of the vineyard do? He will come and destroy the farmers, and will give the vineyard to others.

Che farà {dunque} il padrone della vigna? Egli verrà, farà perire quei vignaiuoli e darà la vigna ad altri.

10 H aven’t you even read this Scripture: ‘The stone which the builders rejected, the same was made the head of the corner.

Non avete neppure letto questa Scrittura: “La pietra che i costruttori hanno rifiutata è diventata pietra angolare;

11 T his was from the Lord, it is marvelous in our eyes’?”

ciò è stato fatto dal Signore, ed è una cosa meravigliosa ai nostri occhi” ?»

12 T hey tried to seize him, but they feared the multitude; for they perceived that he spoke the parable against them. They left him, and went away.

13 T hey sent some of the Pharisees and of the Herodians to him, that they might trap him with words.

14 W hen they had come, they asked him, “Teacher, we know that you are honest, and don’t defer to anyone; for you aren’t partial to anyone, but truly teach the way of God. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?

Arrivati, gli dissero: «Maestro, noi sappiamo che tu sei sincero e che non hai riguardi per nessuno, perché non badi all’apparenza delle persone, ma insegni la via di Dio secondo verità. È lecito, o no, pagare il tributo a Cesare? Dobbiamo pagare o non dobbiamo pagare?»

15 S hall we give, or shall we not give?” But he, knowing their hypocrisy, said to them, “Why do you test me? Bring me a denarius, that I may see it.”

16 T hey brought it. He said to them, “Whose is this image and inscription?” They said to him, “Caesar’s.”

17 J esus answered them, “Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” They marveled greatly at him.

18 T here came to him Sadducees, who say that there is no resurrection. They asked him, saying,

19 “ Teacher, Moses wrote to us, ‘If a man’s brother dies, and leaves a wife behind him, and leaves no children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up offspring for his brother.’

«Maestro, Mosè ci lasciò scritto che se il fratello di uno muore e lascia la moglie senza figli, il fratello ne prenda la moglie e dia una discendenza a suo fratello.

20 T here were seven brothers. The first took a wife, and dying left no offspring.

C’erano sette fratelli. Il primo prese moglie; morì e non lasciò discendenti.

21 T he second took her, and died, leaving no children behind him. The third likewise;

Il secondo la prese e morì senza lasciare discendenti. Così il terzo.

22 a nd the seven took her and left no children. Last of all the woman also died.

I sette non lasciarono discendenti. Infine, dopo tutti loro, morì anche la donna.

23 I n the resurrection, when they rise, whose wife will she be of them? For the seven had her as a wife.”

Nella risurrezione, {quando saranno risuscitati,} di chi di loro sarà ella moglie? Perché tutti e sette l’hanno avuta in moglie».

24 J esus answered them, “Isn’t this because you are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures, nor the power of God?

Gesù disse loro: «Non errate voi proprio perché non conoscete le Scritture né la potenza di Dio?

25 F or when they will rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven.

Infatti, quando gli uomini risuscitano dai morti, né prendono né danno moglie, ma sono come angeli nel cielo.

26 B ut about the dead, that they are raised; haven’t you read in the book of Moses, about the Bush, how God spoke to him, saying, ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’ ?

Quanto poi ai morti e alla loro risurrezione, non avete letto nel libro di Mosè, nel passo del pruno, come Dio gli parlò dicendo: “Io sono il Dio di Abraamo, il Dio di Isacco e il Dio di Giacobbe” ?

27 H e is not the God of the dead, but of the living. You are therefore badly mistaken.”

28 O ne of the scribes came, and heard them questioning together. Knowing that he had answered them well, asked him, “Which commandment is the greatest of all?”

29 J esus answered, “The greatest is, ‘Hear, Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one:

30 y ou shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment.

Ama dunque il Signore Dio tuo con tutto il tuo cuore, con tutta l’anima tua, con tutta la mente tua e con tutta la forza tua”.

31 T he second is like this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

Il secondo è questo: “Ama il tuo prossimo come te stesso”. Non c’è nessun altro comandamento maggiore di questi».

32 T he scribe said to him, “Truly, teacher, you have said well that he is one, and there is none other but he,

Lo scriba gli disse: «Bene, Maestro! Tu hai detto, secondo verità, che egli è l’unico e che non v’è alcun altro all’infuori di lui;

33 a nd to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbor as himself, is more important than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.”

e che amarlo con tutto il cuore, con tutto l’intelletto, con tutta la forza, e amare il prossimo come se stesso, è molto più di tutti gli olocausti e i sacrifici».

34 W hen Jesus saw that he answered wisely, he said to him, “You are not far from God’s Kingdom.” No one dared ask him any question after that.

Gesù, vedendo che aveva risposto con intelligenza, gli disse: «Tu non sei lontano dal regno di Dio». E nessuno osava più interrogarlo. Gesù interroga i farisei

35 J esus responded, as he taught in the temple, “How is it that the scribes say that the Christ is the son of David?

36 F or David himself said in the Holy Spirit, ‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies the footstool of your feet.”’

Davide stesso disse per lo Spirito Santo: “Il Signore ha detto al mio Signore: ‘Siedi alla mia destra, finché io abbia messo i tuoi nemici sotto i tuoi piedi’”.

37 T herefore David himself calls him Lord, so how can he be his son?” The common people heard him gladly.

38 I n his teaching he said to them, “Beware of the scribes, who like to walk in long robes, and to get greetings in the marketplaces,

Nel suo insegnamento egli diceva: «Guardatevi dagli scribi, che amano passeggiare in lunghe vesti, i saluti nelle piazze,

39 a nd the best seats in the synagogues, and the best places at feasts:

i primi seggi nelle sinagoghe e i primi posti nei conviti;

40 t hose who devour widows’ houses, and for a pretense make long prayers. These will receive greater condemnation.”

che divorano le case delle vedove e fanno lunghe preghiere per mettersi in mostra. Costoro riceveranno una maggiore condanna». L’offerta della vedova

41 J esus sat down opposite the treasury, and saw how the multitude cast money into the treasury. Many who were rich cast in much.

E sedutosi di fronte alla cassa delle offerte, guardava come la gente metteva denaro nella cassa; molti ricchi ne mettevano assai.

42 A poor widow came, and she cast in two small brass coins, which equal a quadrans coin.

Venuta una povera vedova, vi mise due spiccioli, che fanno un quarto di soldo.

43 H e called his disciples to himself, and said to them, “Most certainly I tell you, this poor widow gave more than all those who are giving into the treasury,

Gesù, chiamati a sé i suoi discepoli, disse loro: «In verità io vi dico che questa povera vedova ha messo nella cassa delle offerte più di tutti gli altri:

44 f or they all gave out of their abundance, but she, out of her poverty, gave all that she had to live on.”

poiché tutti vi hanno gettato del loro superfluo, ma lei, nella sua povertà, vi ha messo tutto ciò che possedeva, tutto quanto aveva per vivere».
