1 T he sin of Judah is written with a pen of iron, and with the point of a diamond: it is engraved on the tablet of their heart, and on the horns of your altars;

«Il peccato di Giuda è scritto con uno stilo di ferro, con una punta di diamante; è scolpito sulla tavola del loro cuore e sui corni dei vostri altari.

2 w hile their children remember their altars and their Asherah poles by the green trees on the high hills.

Come si ricordano dei loro figli, così si ricordano dei loro altari e dei loro idoli di Astarte, presso gli alberi verdeggianti sugli alti colli.

3 M y mountain in the field, I will give your substance and all your treasures for a plunder, and your high places, because of sin, throughout all your borders.

O mia montagna, che domini la campagna, io darò i tuoi beni, tutti i tuoi tesori e i tuoi alti luoghi come preda, a causa dei peccati che tu hai commessi entro tutti i tuoi confini!

4 Y ou, even of yourself, shall discontinue from your heritage that I gave you; and I will cause you to serve your enemies in the land which you don’t know: for you have kindled a fire in my anger which shall burn forever.

Tu, per tua colpa, perderai l’eredità che io ti avevo data e ti farò servire i tuoi nemici in un paese che non conosci, perché avete acceso il fuoco della mia ira, ed esso arderà per sempre».

5 Y ahweh says: Cursed is the man who trusts in man, and makes flesh his arm, and whose heart departs from Yahweh.

Così parla il Signore: «Maledetto l’uomo che confida nell’uomo e fa della carne il suo braccio, e il cui cuore si allontana dal Signore!

6 F or he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good comes, but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, a salt land and not inhabited.

Egli è come una tamerice nel deserto: quando giunge il bene, egli non lo vede; abita in luoghi aridi, nel deserto, in terra salata, senza abitanti.

7 B lessed is the man who trusts in Yahweh, and whose trust Yahweh is.

Benedetto l’uomo che confida nel Signore e la cui fiducia è il Signore!

8 F or he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, who spreads out its roots by the river, and shall not fear when heat comes, but its leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.

Egli è come un albero piantato vicino all’acqua, che distende le sue radici lungo il fiume: non si accorge quando viene la calura e il suo fogliame rimane verde; nell’anno della siccità non è in affanno e non cessa di portare frutto».

9 T he heart is deceitful above all things, and it is exceedingly corrupt: who can know it?

Il cuore è ingannevole più di ogni altra cosa e insanabilmente maligno; chi potrà conoscerlo?

10 I , Yahweh, search the mind, I try the heart, even to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings.

«Io, il Signore, che investigo il cuore, che metto alla prova le reni, per retribuire ciascuno secondo le sue vie, secondo il frutto delle sue azioni».

11 A s the partridge that sits on eggs which she has not laid, so is he who gets riches, and not by right; in the middle of his days they shall leave him, and at his end he shall be a fool.

Chi acquista ricchezze, ma non con giustizia, è come la pernice che cova uova che non ha fatte; nel bel mezzo dei suoi giorni egli deve lasciarle e quando arriva la sua fine non è che uno stolto.

12 A glorious throne, set on high from the beginning, is the place of our sanctuary.

Trono di gloria, eccelso fin dal principio, è il luogo del nostro santuario.

13 Y ahweh, the hope of Israel, all who forsake you shall be disappointed. Those who depart from me shall be written in the earth, because they have forsaken Yahweh, the spring of living waters.

Speranza d’Israele, o Signore, tutti quelli che ti abbandonano saranno confusi; quelli che si allontanano da te saranno iscritti sulla polvere, perché hanno abbandonato il Signore, la sorgente delle acque vive.

14 H eal me, O Yahweh, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved: for you are my praise.

Guariscimi, Signore, e sarò guarito; salvami, e sarò salvo, poiché tu sei la mia lode.

15 B ehold, they tell me, Where is Yahweh’s word? let it come now.

Ecco, essi mi dicono: «Dov’è la parola del Signore ? Che essa si compia, dunque!»

16 A s for me, I have not hurried from being a shepherd after you; neither have I desired the woeful day; you know: that which came out of my lips was before your face.

Quanto a me, io non mi sono rifiutato di essere loro pastore agli ordini tuoi, né ho desiderato il giorno funesto, tu lo sai; quanto è uscito dalle mie labbra è stato manifesto davanti a te.

17 D on’t be a terror to me: you are my refuge in the day of evil.

Non essere per me uno spavento; tu sei il mio rifugio nel giorno della calamità.

18 L et them be disappointed who persecute me, but let not me be disappointed; let them be dismayed, but don’t let me be dismayed; bring on them the day of evil, and destroy them with double destruction.

Siano confusi i miei persecutori, non io sia confuso; siano spaventati essi, non io sia spaventato. Fa’ venire su di loro il giorno della calamità e colpiscili con doppia distruzione! La santificazione del sabato

19 T hus said Yahweh to me: Go, and stand in the gate of the children of the people, through which the kings of Judah come in, and by which they go out, and in all the gates of Jerusalem;

Così mi ha detto il Signore: «Va’ e fèrmati alla porta dei figli del popolo per la quale entrano ed escono i figli di Giuda, e a tutte le porte di Gerusalemme, e di’ loro:

20 a nd tell them, Hear Yahweh’s word, you kings of Judah, and all Judah, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, that enter in by these gates:

“Ascoltate la parola del Signore, o re di Giuda, e tutto Giuda, e voi tutti gli abitanti di Gerusalemme, che entrate per queste porte!

21 Y ahweh says, Be careful, and bear no burden on the Sabbath day, nor bring it in by the gates of Jerusalem;

Così parla il Signore: Per amore della vostra stessa vita, guardatevi dal portare qualsiasi carico e dal farlo passare per le porte di Gerusalemme in giorno di sabato;

22 n either carry a burden out of your houses on the Sabbath day, neither do any work: but make the Sabbath day holy, as I commanded your fathers.

non tirate fuori dalle vostre case alcun carico e non fate alcun lavoro in giorno di sabato, ma santificate il giorno del sabato, come io comandai ai vostri padri.

23 B ut they didn’t listen, neither turn their ear, but made their neck stiff, that they might not hear, and might not receive instruction.

Essi, però, non diedero ascolto, non prestarono orecchio, ma irrigidirono il collo per non ascoltare e per non ricevere istruzione.

24 I t shall happen, if you diligently listen to me, says Yahweh, to bring in no burden through the gates of this city on the Sabbath day, but to make the Sabbath day holy, to do no work therein;

Se voi mi ascoltate attentamente”, dice il Signore, “se non fate entrare alcun carico per le porte di questa città in giorno di sabato, ma santificate il giorno del sabato e non fate in esso alcun lavoro,

25 t hen shall there enter in by the gates of this city kings and princes sitting on David’s throne, riding in chariots and on horses, they, and their princes, the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and this city shall remain forever.

i re e i prìncipi che siedono sul trono di Davide entreranno per le porte di questa città su carri e su cavalli: entreranno essi, i loro prìncipi, gli uomini di Giuda, gli abitanti di Gerusalemme; e questa città sarà abitata per sempre.

26 T hey shall come from the cities of Judah, and from the places around Jerusalem, and from the land of Benjamin, and from the lowland, and from the hill country, and from the South, bringing burnt offerings, and sacrifices, and meal offerings, and frankincense, and bringing sacrifices of thanksgiving, to Yahweh’s house.

Dalle città di Giuda, dai luoghi circostanti di Gerusalemme, dal paese di Beniamino, dalla pianura, dal monte e dalla regione meridionale si verrà a portare olocausti, vittime, offerte, incenso e a offrire sacrifici di ringraziamento nella casa del Signore.

27 B ut if you will not listen to me to make the Sabbath day holy, and not to bear a burden and enter in at the gates of Jerusalem on the Sabbath day; then I will kindle a fire in its gates, and it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem, and it shall not be quenched.

Ma se non mi date ascolto e non santificate il giorno del sabato, e non vi astenete dal portare carichi e dall’introdurne per le porte di Gerusalemme in giorno di sabato, io accenderò un fuoco alle porte della città ed esso divorerà i palazzi di Gerusalemme, e non si estinguerà”».
