1 H e called to himself his twelve disciples, and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every sickness.

4 S imon the Canaanite; and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him.

5 J esus sent these twelve out, and commanded them, saying, “Don’t go among the Gentiles, and don’t enter into any city of the Samaritans.

Questi sono i dodici che Gesù mandò, dando loro queste istruzioni: «Non andate tra i pagani e non entrate in nessuna città dei Samaritani,

6 R ather, go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

7 A s you go, preach, saying, ‘The Kingdom of Heaven is at hand!’

Andando, predicate e dite: “Il regno dei cieli è vicino”.

8 H eal the sick, cleanse the lepers, and cast out demons. Freely you received, so freely give.

Guarite gli ammalati, risuscitate i morti, purificate i lebbrosi, scacciate i demòni; gratuitamente avete ricevuto, gratuitamente date.

9 D on’t take any gold, silver, or brass in your money belts.

Non provvedetevi d’oro, né d’argento, né di rame nelle vostre cinture,

10 T ake no bag for your journey, neither two coats, nor shoes, nor staff: for the laborer is worthy of his food.

né di sacca da viaggio, né di due tuniche, né di calzari, né di bastone, perché l’operaio è degno del suo nutrimento.

11 I nto whatever city or village you enter, find out who in it is worthy; and stay there until you go on.

In qualunque città o villaggio sarete entrati, informatevi se vi sia qualcuno degno, e lì rimanete finché partirete.

12 A s you enter into the household, greet it.

Quando entrerete nella casa, salutatela.

13 I f the household is worthy, let your peace come on it, but if it isn’t worthy, let your peace return to you.

Se quella casa ne è degna, venga la vostra pace su di essa; se invece non ne è degna, la vostra pace torni a voi.

14 W hoever doesn’t receive you, nor hear your words, as you go out of that house or that city, shake off the dust from your feet.

Se qualcuno non vi riceve né ascolta le vostre parole, uscendo da quella casa o da quella città, scuotete la polvere dai vostri piedi.

15 M ost certainly I tell you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city.

In verità vi dico che, nel giorno del giudizio, la sorte del paese di Sodoma e Gomorra sarà più tollerabile di quella di tale città. Le persecuzioni imminenti

16 “ Behold, I send you out as sheep among wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

«Ecco, io vi mando come pecore in mezzo ai lupi; siate dunque prudenti come i serpenti e semplici come le colombe.

17 B ut beware of men: for they will deliver you up to councils, and in their synagogues they will scourge you.

Guardatevi dagli uomini; perché vi metteranno in mano ai tribunali e vi flagelleranno nelle loro sinagoghe;

18 Y es, and you will be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony to them and to the nations.

e sarete condotti davanti a governatori e re per causa mia, per servire di testimonianza davanti a loro e ai pagani.

19 B ut when they deliver you up, don’t be anxious how or what you will say, for it will be given you in that hour what you will say.

Ma quando vi metteranno nelle loro mani, non preoccupatevi di come parlerete o di quello che dovrete dire; perché in quel momento stesso vi sarà dato ciò che dovrete dire.

20 F or it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you.

Poiché non siete voi che parlate, ma è lo Spirito del Padre vostro che parla in voi.

21 “ Brother will deliver up brother to death, and the father his child. Children will rise up against parents, and cause them to be put to death.

Il fratello darà il fratello a morte, e il padre il figlio; i figli insorgeranno contro i genitori e li faranno morire.

22 Y ou will be hated by all men for my name’s sake, but he who endures to the end will be saved.

Sarete odiati da tutti a causa del mio nome; ma chi avrà perseverato sino alla fine sarà salvato.

23 B ut when they persecute you in this city, flee into the next, for most certainly I tell you, you will not have gone through the cities of Israel, until the Son of Man has come.

Quando vi perseguiteranno in una città, fuggite in un’altra; perché io vi dico in verità che non avrete finito di percorrere le città d’Israele, prima che il Figlio dell’uomo sia venuto.

24 “ A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his lord.

Un discepolo non è superiore al maestro, né un servo superiore al suo signore.

25 I t is enough for the disciple that he be like his teacher, and the servant like his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more those of his household!

Basti al discepolo essere come il suo maestro e al servo essere come il suo signore. Se hanno chiamato Belzebù il padrone, quanto più chiameranno così quelli di casa sua!

26 T herefore don’t be afraid of them, for there is nothing covered that will not be revealed; and hidden that will not be known.

Non li temete dunque; perché non c’è niente di nascosto che non debba essere scoperto, né di occulto che non debba essere conosciuto.

27 W hat I tell you in the darkness, speak in the light; and what you hear whispered in the ear, proclaim on the housetops.

Quello che io vi dico nelle tenebre, ditelo nella luce; e quello che udite dettovi all’orecchio, predicatelo sui tetti.

28 D on’t be afraid of those who kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul. Rather, fear him who is able to destroy both soul and body in Gehenna.

E non temete coloro che uccidono il corpo, ma non possono uccidere l’anima; temete piuttosto colui che può far perire l’anima e il corpo nella geenna.

29 “ Aren’t two sparrows sold for an assarion coin? Not one of them falls on the ground apart from your Father’s will,

Due passeri non si vendono per un soldo ? Eppure non ne cade uno solo in terra senza il volere del Padre vostro.

30 b ut the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

Quanto a voi, perfino i capelli del vostro capo sono tutti contati.

31 T herefore don’t be afraid. You are of more value than many sparrows.

Non temete dunque; voi valete più di molti passeri.

32 E veryone therefore who confesses me before men, him I will also confess before my Father who is in heaven.

Chi dunque mi riconoscerà davanti agli uomini, anch’io riconoscerò lui davanti al Padre mio che è nei cieli.

33 B ut whoever denies me before men, him I will also deny before my Father who is in heaven.

Ma chiunque mi rinnegherà davanti agli uomini, anch’io rinnegherò lui davanti al Padre mio che è nei cieli.

34 “ Don’t think that I came to send peace on the earth. I didn’t come to send peace, but a sword.

Non pensate che io sia venuto a mettere pace sulla terra; non sono venuto a metter pace, ma spada.

35 F or I came to set a man at odds against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.

Perché sono venuto a mettere l’uomo contro suo padre, la figlia contro sua madre e la nuora contro sua suocera;

36 A man’s foes will be those of his own household.

e i nemici dell’uomo saranno quelli stessi di casa sua.

37 H e who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and he who loves son or daughter more than me isn’t worthy of me.

Chi ama padre o madre più di me, non è degno di me; e chi ama figlio o figlia più di me, non è degno di me.

38 H e who doesn’t take his cross and follow after me, isn’t worthy of me.

Chi non prende la sua croce e non viene dietro a me, non è degno di me.

39 H e who seeks his life will lose it; and he who loses his life for my sake will find it.

Chi avrà trovato la sua vita la perderà; e chi avrà perduto la sua vita per causa mia, la troverà.

40 H e who receives you receives me, and he who receives me receives him who sent me.

«Chi riceve voi, riceve me; e chi riceve me, riceve colui che mi ha mandato.

41 H e who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward. He who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man will receive a righteous man’s reward.

Chi riceve un profeta perché è un profeta, riceverà premio di profeta; e chi riceve un giusto perché è un giusto, riceverà premio di giusto.

42 W hoever gives one of these little ones just a cup of cold water to drink in the name of a disciple, most certainly I tell you he will in no way lose his reward.”

E chi avrà dato da bere anche un solo bicchiere d’acqua fresca a uno di questi piccoli, perché è un discepolo, io vi dico in verità che non perderà affatto il suo premio».
