Vorrei che sopportaste da parte mia un po’ di follia! Ma sì, già mi state sopportando!

2 I am jealous for you with a God-like jealousy. I have given you, as a woman who has never had a man, to one Husband, Who is Christ.

Infatti sono geloso di voi della gelosia di Dio, perché vi ho fidanzati a un unico sposo per presentarvi come una casta vergine a Cristo.

3 E ve was fooled by the snake in the garden of Eden. In the same way, I am afraid that you will be fooled and led away from your pure love for Christ.

Ma temo che come il serpente sedusse Eva con la sua astuzia, così le vostre menti vengano corrotte e sviate dalla semplicità e dalla purezza nei riguardi di Cristo.

4 Y ou listen when someone comes and preaches a different Jesus than the One we preached. You believe what you hear about a different spirit and different good news than that which we preached.

Infatti, se uno viene a predicarvi un altro Gesù, diverso da quello che abbiamo predicato noi, o se si tratta di ricevere uno spirito diverso da quello che avete ricevuto, o un vangelo diverso da quello che avete accettato, voi lo sopportate volentieri.

5 I do not think I am less than those special missionaries who are coming to you.

Stimo infatti di non essere stato in nulla inferiore a quei sommi apostoli.

6 E ven if it is hard for me to speak, I know what I am talking about. You know this by now.

Anche se sono rozzo nel parlare, non lo sono però nella conoscenza; e lo abbiamo dimostrato tra di voi, in tutti i modi e in ogni cosa.

7 D id I do wrong? I did not ask you for anything when I preached the Good News to you. I made myself poor so you would be made rich.

Ho forse commesso peccato quando, abbassando me stesso perché voi foste innalzati, vi ho annunciato il vangelo di Dio gratuitamente?

8 I did take money from other churches. I used it while I worked with you so you would not have to pay me.

Ho spogliato altre chiese, prendendo da loro un sussidio, per poter servire voi.

9 S ome of the time I had no money when I was with you. But I did not ask you for money. The Christians from the country of Macedonia brought me what I needed. I did not ask you and I will not ask you for anything.

Durante il mio soggiorno tra di voi, quando mi trovai nel bisogno, non fui di peso a nessuno, perché i fratelli venuti dalla Macedonia provvidero al mio bisogno; e in ogni cosa mi sono astenuto e mi asterrò ancora dall’esservi di peso.

10 A s sure as the truth of Christ is in me, I will not stop telling those in the country of Greece that I am proud of this.

Com’è vero che la verità di Cristo è in me, questo vanto non mi sarà tolto nelle regioni dell’Acaia.

11 D oes it mean I do not love you? God knows I do.

Perché? Forse perché non vi amo? Dio lo sa.

12 W hat I am doing now, I will keep on doing. I will do it to stop those who say they work as we do.

Ma quello che faccio lo farò ancora per togliere ogni pretesto a coloro che desiderano un’occasione per mostrarsi uguali a noi in ciò di cui si vantano.

13 T hose men are false missionaries. They lie about their work. But they make themselves look like true missionaries of Christ.

Quei tali sono falsi apostoli, operai fraudolenti che si travestono da apostoli di Cristo.

14 I t is no surprise! The devil makes himself look like an angel of light.

Non c’è da meravigliarsene, perché anche Satana si traveste da angelo di luce.

15 A nd so it is no surprise if his servants also make themselves look like preachers of the Good News. They and their work will come to the same end. What Paul Suffered as a Missionary

Non è dunque cosa eccezionale se anche i suoi servitori si travestono da servitori di giustizia; la loro fine sarà secondo le loro opere. Sofferenze di Paolo

16 L et me say it again. Do not think of me as a fool. But if you do, then let this foolish man speak a little about himself.

Nessuno, ripeto, mi prenda per pazzo; o se no, accettatemi anche come pazzo, affinché anch’io possa vantarmi un po’.

17 T he Lord has not told me to talk about myself. I am foolish when I do talk about myself like this.

Quel che dico quando mi vanto con tanta sicurezza non lo dico secondo il Signore, ma come se fossi pazzo.

18 S ince the other men tell you all about themselves, I will talk about myself also.

Poiché molti si vantano secondo la carne, anch’io mi vanterò.

19 Y ou are so wise! You put up with fools!

Ora voi, pur essendo savi, sopportate volentieri i pazzi!

20 Y ou listen to anyone who tells you what to do or makes money off of you or sets a trap for you. You will listen to anyone who makes himself bigger than you or hits you in the face.

Infatti se uno vi riduce in schiavitù, se uno vi divora, se uno vi prende il vostro, se uno s’innalza sopra di voi, se uno vi percuote in faccia, voi lo sopportate.

21 I am ashamed to say that I am weak! But I do not do as they do. Whatever they say about themselves, I can say about myself also. (I know what I am saying sounds foolish.)

Lo dico a nostra vergogna, come se noi fossimo stati deboli; eppure qualunque cosa uno osi pretendere (parlo da pazzo), oso pretenderla anch’io.

22 A re they Jews? So am I. Are they from the family of Israel? So am I. Are they from the family of Abraham? So am I.

Sono Ebrei? Lo sono anch’io. Sono Israeliti? Lo sono anch’io. Sono discendenza di Abraamo? Lo sono anch’io.

23 D o they work for Christ? I have worked for Him much more than they have. (I speak as if I am crazy.) I have done much more work. I have been in prison more times. I cannot remember how many times I have been whipped. Many times I have been in danger of death.

Sono servitori di Cristo? Io (parlo come uno fuori di sé) lo sono più di loro; più di loro per le fatiche, più di loro per le prigionie, assai più di loro per le percosse subite. Spesso sono stato in pericolo di morte.

24 F ive different times the Jews whipped me across my back thirty-nine times.

Dai Giudei cinque volte ho ricevuto quaranta colpi meno uno;

25 T hree times they beat me with sticks. One time they threw stones at me. Three times I was on ships that were wrecked. I spent a day and a night in the water.

tre volte sono stato battuto con le verghe; una volta sono stato lapidato; tre volte ho fatto naufragio; ho passato un giorno e una notte negli abissi marini.

26 I have made many hard trips. I have been in danger from high water on rivers. I have been in danger from robbers. I have been in danger from the Jews. I have been in danger from people who do not know God. I have been in danger in cities and in the desert. I have been in danger on the sea. I have been in danger among people who say they belong to Christ but do not.

Spesso in viaggio, in pericolo sui fiumi, in pericolo per i briganti, in pericolo da parte dei miei connazionali, in pericolo da parte degli stranieri, in pericolo nelle città, in pericolo nei deserti, in pericolo sul mare, in pericolo tra falsi fratelli;

27 I have worked hard and have been tired and have had pain. I have gone many times without sleep. I have been hungry and thirsty. I have gone without food and clothes. I have been out in the cold.

in fatiche e in pene; spesse volte in veglie, nella fame e nella sete, spesse volte nei digiuni, nel freddo e nella nudità.

28 M ore than all these things that have happened to my body, the care of all the churches is heavy on me.

Oltre a tutto il resto, sono assillato ogni giorno dalle preoccupazioni che mi vengono da tutte le chiese.

29 W hen someone is weak, I feel weak also. When someone is led into sin, I have a strong desire to help him.

Chi è debole senza che io mi senta debole con lui? Chi è scandalizzato senza che io frema per lui?

30 I f I must talk about myself, I will do it about the things that show how weak I am.

Se bisogna vantarsi, mi vanterò della mia debolezza.

31 T he God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ is to be honored and thanked forever. He knows I am telling the truth.

Il Dio e Padre del Signore Gesù, che è benedetto in eterno, sa che io non mento.

32 I n the city of Damascus the leader of the people under King Aretas put soldiers at the gates to take me.

A Damasco il governatore del re Areta aveva posto delle guardie nella città dei Damasceni per arrestarmi;

33 B ut I was let down in a basket through a window in the wall and I got away.

e da una finestra fui calato, in una cesta, lungo il muro, e scampai alle sue mani.
