2 Y ou know when I sit down and when I get up. You understand my thoughts from far away.

Tu sai quando mi siedo e quando mi alzo, tu comprendi da lontano il mio pensiero.

3 Y ou look over my path and my lying down. You know all my ways very well.

Tu mi scruti quando cammino e quando riposo e conosci a fondo tutte le mie vie.

4 E ven before I speak a word, O Lord, You know it all.

Poiché la parola non è ancora sulla mia lingua, che tu, Signore, già la conosci appieno.

5 Y ou have closed me in from behind and in front. And You have laid Your hand upon me.

Tu mi circondi, mi stai di fronte e alle spalle e poni la tua mano su di me.

6 A ll You know is too great for me. It is too much for me to understand.

La conoscenza che hai di me è meravigliosa, troppo alta perché io possa arrivarci.

7 W here can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I run away from where You are?

Dove potrei andarmene lontano dal tuo Spirito, dove fuggirò dalla tua presenza?

8 I f I go up to heaven, You are there! If I make my bed in the place of the dead, You are there!

Se salgo in cielo tu ci sei; se scendo nel soggiorno dei morti, eccoti là.

9 I f I take the wings of the morning or live in the farthest part of the sea,

Se prendo le ali dell’alba e vado ad abitare all’estremità del mare,

10 e ven there Your hand will lead me and Your right hand will hold me.

anche là mi condurrà la tua mano e mi afferrerà la tua destra.

11 I f I say, “For sure the darkness will cover me and the light around me will be night,”

Se dico: «Certo le tenebre mi nasconderanno e la luce diventerà notte intorno a me»,

12 e ven the darkness is not dark to You. And the night is as bright as the day. Darkness and light are the same to You.

le tenebre stesse non possono nasconderti nulla e la notte per te è chiara come il giorno; le tenebre e la luce ti sono uguali.

13 F or You made the parts inside me. You put me together inside my mother.

Sei tu che hai formato le mie reni, che mi hai intessuto nel seno di mia madre.

14 I will give thanks to You, for the greatness of the way I was made brings fear. Your works are great and my soul knows it very well.

Io ti celebrerò, perché sono stato fatto in modo stupendo. Meravigliose sono le tue opere, e l’anima mia lo sa molto bene.

15 M y bones were not hidden from You when I was made in secret and put together with care in the deep part of the earth.

Le mie ossa non ti erano nascoste, quando fui formato in segreto e intessuto nelle profondità della terra.

16 Y our eyes saw me before I was put together. And all the days of my life were written in Your book before any of them came to be.

I tuoi occhi videro la massa informe del mio corpo, e nel tuo libro erano tutti scritti i giorni che mi erano destinati, quando nessuno d’essi era sorto ancora.

17 Y our thoughts are of great worth to me, O God. How many there are!

Oh, quanto mi sono preziosi i tuoi pensieri, o Dio! Quant’è grande il loro insieme!

18 I f I could number them, there would be more than the sand. When I awake, I am still with You.

Se li voglio contare, sono più numerosi della sabbia; quando mi sveglio sono ancora con te.

19 I f only You would kill the sinful, O God, and the men of blood would go away from me!

Certo, tu ucciderai l’empio, o Dio; perciò allontanatevi da me uomini sanguinari.

20 F or they speak against You in sin. Those who hate You use Your name in a wrong way.

Essi parlano contro di te malvagiamente; i tuoi nemici si servono del tuo nome per sostenere la menzogna.

21 D o I not hate those who hate You, O Lord? And do I not hate those who rise up against You?

Signore, non odio forse quelli che ti odiano? E non detesto quelli che insorgono contro di te?

22 I hate them with the strongest hate. They have become men who hate me.

Io li odio di un odio perfetto; li considero miei nemici.

23 L ook through me, O God, and know my heart. Try me and know my thoughts.

Esaminami, o Dio, e conosci il mio cuore. Mettimi alla prova e conosci i miei pensieri.

24 S ee if there is any sinful way in me and lead me in the way that lasts forever.

Vedi se c’è in me qualche via iniqua e guidami per la via eterna.
