1 O Lord, You are my God. I will praise You. I will give thanks to Your name. For You have been faithful to do great things, plans that You made long ago.

Signore, tu sei il mio Dio; io ti esalterò, loderò il tuo nome, perché hai fatto cose meravigliose; i tuoi disegni, concepiti da tempo, sono fedeli e stabili.

2 F or You have laid waste a city. You have destroyed a strong city. The beautiful house of strangers is a city no more. And it will never be built again.

Poiché tu hai ridotto la città in un mucchio di pietre, la città forte in un monte di rovine; il castello degli stranieri non è più una città, non sarà mai più ricostruito.

3 S o strong people will honor You. Cities of nations that show no pity will fear You.

Perciò il popolo forte ti glorifica, le città delle nazioni possenti ti temono,

4 F or You have been a strong-place for those who could not help themselves and for those in need because of much trouble. You have been a safe place from the storm and a shadow from the heat. For the breath of the one who shows no pity is like a storm against a wall.

perché tu sei stato una fortezza per il povero, una fortezza per l’indifeso nella sua angoscia, un rifugio contro la tempesta, un’ombra contro l’arsura; poiché il soffio dei tiranni era come una tempesta che batte la muraglia.

5 L ike heat in a dry place, You quiet the noise of the strangers. Like heat by the shadow of a cloud, the song of the one who shows no pity is made quiet. A Supper for All People

Come il calore è domato in una terra arida, così tu hai domato il tumulto degli stranieri; come il calore è diminuito dall’ombra di una nuvola, così il canto dei tiranni è stato attenuato.

6 O n this mountain the Lord of All will make a supper of good things ready for all people. It will be a supper of good wine, of the best foods, and of fine wine.

Il Signore degli eserciti preparerà per tutti i popoli su questo monte un convito di cibi succulenti, un convito di vini vecchi, di cibi pieni di midollo, di vini vecchi raffinati.

7 A nd on this mountain He will destroy the covering which is over all people, the covering which is spread over all nations.

Distruggerà su quel monte il velo che copre la faccia di tutti i popoli e la coperta stesa su tutte le nazioni.

8 H e will take away death for all time. The Lord God will dry tears from all faces. He will take away the shame of His people from all the earth. For the Lord has spoken.

Annienterà per sempre la morte; il Signore, Dio, asciugherà le lacrime da ogni viso, toglierà via da tutta la terra la vergogna del suo popolo, perché il Signore ha parlato.

9 I t will be said in that day, “See, this is our God. We have waited for Him, that He might save us. This is the Lord for Whom we have waited. Let us be glad and full of joy because He saves us.” Moab Will Be Punished

In quel giorno si dirà: «Ecco, questo è il nostro Dio; in lui abbiamo sperato ed egli ci ha salvati. Questo è il Signore in cui abbiamo sperato; esultiamo, rallegriamoci per la sua salvezza!»

10 F or the hand of the Lord will rest on this mountain. And Moab will be crushed in his place, as straw is crushed down in animal waste.

Infatti la mano del Signore riposerà su questo monte, mentre Moab sarà trebbiato sulla sua terra come si pigia la paglia nel letamaio.

11 M oab will spread out his hands in it, as a man spreads out his hands to swim. But the Lord will put his pride to shame, together with the sinful work of his hands.

Dal letamaio egli stenderà le mani come le stende il nuotatore per nuotare, ma il Signore farà cadere la sua superbia con le trame che ha ordite.

12 A nd the Lord will bring down your high walls built for war and lay them low. He will throw them to the ground, even to the dust.

Demolirà l’alta fortezza delle tue mura, l’abbatterà fin nella polvere.
