1 T hen the Word of the Lord came to me saying,

La parola del Signore degli eserciti mi fu rivolta in questi termini:

2 “ The Lord of All says, ‘I am very jealous for Zion. I am jealous for her with much anger.’

«Così parla il Signore degli eserciti: “Io provo per Sion una grande gelosia, sono geloso di lei con grande ardore”.

3 T he Lord says, ‘I will return to Zion and live in Jerusalem. Then Jerusalem will be called the City of Truth, and the mountain of the Lord of All will be called the Holy Mountain.’

Così parla il Signore: “Io torno a Sion e abiterò in mezzo a Gerusalemme; Gerusalemme si chiamerà la Città della fedeltà, il monte del Signore degli eserciti, Monte santo”.

4 T he Lord of All says, ‘Old men and old women will sit in the streets of Jerusalem again. Each man will have a walking stick in his hand because he will be old.

Così parla il Signore degli eserciti: “Ci saranno ancora vecchi e vecchie che si siederanno nelle piazze di Gerusalemme, ognuno avrà il bastone in mano a motivo della loro età molto avanzata.

5 A nd the city will be filled with boys and girls playing in the streets.’

Le piazze della città saranno piene di ragazzi e di ragazze che si divertiranno”.

6 T he Lord of All says, ‘It may be wonderful to the few people here in those days, but will it be wonderful to Me also?’ says the Lord of All.

Così parla il Signore degli eserciti: “Se ciò sembrerà impossibile agli occhi del resto di questo popolo in quei giorni, sarà forse impossibile anche agli occhi miei?”, dice il Signore degli eserciti.

7 T he Lord of All says, ‘I am going to save My people from the land of the east and from the land of the west.

Così parla il Signore degli eserciti: “Ecco, io salvo il mio popolo dalla terra d’oriente e dalla terra d’occidente.

8 I will bring them back and they will live in Jerusalem. They will be My people and I will be their God. I will be faithful and do what is right and good for them.’

Li ricondurrò, ed essi abiteranno in mezzo a Gerusalemme; essi saranno mio popolo e io sarò loro Dio con fedeltà e con giustizia”.

9 “ The Lord of All says, ‘You who are now listening to these words spoken through the men of God who were there when the Lord’s house was started, let your hands be strong for building the Lord’s house.

Così parla il Signore degli eserciti: “Fortificate le vostre mani, o voi che oggi udite queste parole dalla bocca dei profeti che c’erano quando venivano gettate le fondamenta della casa del Signore degli eserciti, affinché il tempio sia ricostruito.

10 B efore that time there was no pay for man or animal. No one could come in or go out in peace because of those who hated him. I turned people against one another.

Prima di questi giorni non c’era salario per il lavoro dell’uomo, né salario per il lavoro delle bestie; non c’era nessuna sicurezza per quelli che andavano e venivano, a motivo del nemico, e io mettevo gli uni contro gli altri.

11 B ut now I will not do to the rest of these people as I did in the past,’ says the Lord of All.

Ma ora io non sono più per il rimanente di questo popolo com’ero nei tempi passati”, dice il Signore degli eserciti.

12 ‘ The seed will grow in peace. The vine will give its fruit. The land will give its food. The heavens will give water on the grass in the early morning. And I will let the rest of this people have all these things.

“Infatti, ci sarà un seme di pace: la vite porterà il suo frutto, il suolo darà i suoi prodotti e i cieli daranno la loro rugiada; darò a questo popolo superstite il possesso di tutte queste cose.

13 O people of Judah and Israel, just as you were a curse among the nations, I will save you and make you something good. Do not be afraid. Let your hands be strong.’

Così come siete stati una maledizione fra le nazioni, così, o casa di Giuda e casa d’Israele, io vi salverò, e sarete una benedizione. Non temete! Si fortifichino le vostre mani!”

14 “ The Lord of All says, ‘I wanted to hurt you because your fathers made Me angry.

Infatti, così parla il Signore degli eserciti: “Così come io pensai di farvi del male quando i vostri padri provocarono la mia ira”, dice il Signore degli eserciti, “e non mi pentii,

15 B ut now I want to do good to Jerusalem and to the people of Judah. Do not be afraid.

così di nuovo ho pensato in questi giorni di fare del bene a Gerusalemme e alla casa di Giuda; non temete!

16 T hese are the things you are to do: Speak the truth to one another. Judge with truth so there will be peace within your gates.

Queste sono le cose che dovete fare: dite la verità ciascuno al suo prossimo; fate giustizia, nei vostri tribunali, secondo verità e per la pace;

17 D o not make sinful plans against one another in your hearts. And do not love to make false promises. For I hate all these things,’ says the Lord.”

nessuno trami in cuor suo alcun male contro il suo prossimo; non amate il falso giuramento; perché tutte queste cose io le odio”, dice il Signore ».

18 T hen the Word of the Lord came to me saying,

La parola del Signore degli eserciti mi fu rivolta in questi termini:

19 “ The Lord of All says, ‘The times when you do not eat in the fourth, fifth, seventh and tenth months will become glad times of joy. They will become happy, special suppers for the people of Judah. So love truth and peace.’

«Così parla il Signore degli eserciti: “Il digiuno del quarto, il digiuno del quinto, il digiuno del settimo e il digiuno del decimo mese diventeranno per la casa di Giuda una gioia, un gaudio, feste d’esultanza; amate dunque la verità e la pace”.

20 T he Lord of All says, ‘Many people will yet come from many cities.

Così parla il Signore degli eserciti: “Verranno ancora dei popoli e gli abitanti di molte città;

21 T he people of one city will say to another, “Let us go at once and pray to the Lord and ask for His favor. I will go also.”

gli abitanti dell’una andranno all’altra e diranno: ‘Andiamo, andiamo a implorare il favore del Signore e a cercare il Signore degli eserciti! Anch’io voglio andare!’

22 ‘ So many people and powerful nations will come to look for the Lord of All in Jerusalem and to ask for the Lord’s favor.’

Molti popoli e nazioni potenti verranno a cercare il Signore degli eserciti a Gerusalemme e a implorare il favore del Signore ”.

23 T he Lord of All says, ‘In those days ten men from the nations of every language will take hold of the coat of a Jew, saying, “Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.”’”

Così parla il Signore degli eserciti: “In quei giorni avverrà che dieci uomini di tutte le lingue delle nazioni piglieranno un Giudeo per il lembo della veste e diranno: ‘Noi verremo con voi perché abbiamo udito che Dio è con voi’”».
