1 J esus went on to the city of Jericho and was passing through it.

Gesù, entrato in Gerico, attraversava la città.

2 T here was a rich man named Zaccheus. He was a leader of those who gathered taxes.

Un uomo, di nome Zaccheo, il quale era capo dei pubblicani ed era ricco,

3 Z accheus wanted to see Jesus but he could not because so many people were there and he was a short man.

cercava di vedere chi era Gesù, ma non poteva a motivo della folla, perché era piccolo di statura.

4 H e ran ahead and got up into a sycamore tree to see Him. Jesus was going by that way.

Allora, per vederlo, corse avanti e salì sopra un sicomoro, perché egli doveva passare per quella via.

5 W hen Jesus came to the place, He looked up and saw Zaccheus. He said, “Zaccheus, come down at once. I must stay in your house today.”

Quando Gesù giunse in quel luogo, alzati gli occhi, gli disse: «Zaccheo, scendi, presto, perché oggi debbo fermarmi a casa tua».

6 A t once he came down and was glad to have Jesus come to his house.

Egli si affrettò a scendere e lo accolse con gioia.

7 W hen the people saw it, they began to complain among themselves. They said, “He is going to stay with a man who is known to be a sinner.”

Veduto questo, tutti mormoravano, dicendo: «È andato ad alloggiare in casa di un peccatore!»

8 Z accheus stood up and said to the Lord, “Lord, see! Half of what I own I will give to poor people. And if I have taken money from anyone in a wrong way, I will pay him back four times as much.”

Ma Zaccheo si fece avanti e disse al Signore: «Ecco, Signore, io do la metà dei miei beni ai poveri; se ho frodato qualcuno di qualcosa gli rendo il quadruplo».

9 J esus said to him, “Today, a person has been saved in this house. This man is a Jew also.

Gesù gli disse: «Oggi la salvezza è entrata in questa casa, poiché anche questo è figlio di Abraamo;

10 F or the Son of Man came to look for and to save from the punishment of sin those who are lost.” The Picture-Story of the Ten Servants and the Money

perché il Figlio dell’uomo è venuto per cercare e salvare ciò che era perduto». La parabola delle dieci mine

11 A s they heard these things, Jesus told them a picture-story. Because He was near Jerusalem, they thought the holy nation of God would come at once.

Mentre essi ascoltavano queste cose, Gesù aggiunse una parabola, perché era vicino a Gerusalemme ed essi credevano che il regno di Dio stesse per manifestarsi immediatamente.

12 S o Jesus said, “A leader of a country went to another country far away. A nation was to be given to him, then he would return home.

Disse dunque: «Un uomo nobile se ne andò in un paese lontano per ricevere l’investitura di un regno e poi tornare.

13 H e called ten of the servants he owned. He gave them ten pieces of money and said to them, ‘Put this money to use until I return.’

Chiamati a sé dieci suoi servi, diede loro dieci mine e disse loro: “Fatele fruttare fino al mio ritorno”.

14 B ut other men in his country hated him. They sent men after him to tell him they did not want him as their king.

Or i suoi concittadini l’odiavano e gli mandarono dietro degli ambasciatori per dire: “Non vogliamo che costui regni su di noi”.

15 A fter he had been given the other nation, he returned as king. He asked for his servants who had received the money to come to him. He wanted to know how much more they had after putting it to use.

Quando egli fu tornato, dopo aver ricevuto l’investitura del regno, fece venire quei servi ai quali aveva consegnato il denaro, per sapere quanto ognuno avesse guadagnato mettendolo a frutto.

16 T he first one came and said, ‘Lord, the piece of money you gave me has made ten more pieces of money.’

Si presentò il primo e disse: “Signore, la tua mina ne ha fruttate altre dieci”.

17 H e said to him, ‘You are a good servant. You have been faithful in using a little. Now you will be leader over ten cities.’

Il re gli disse: “Va bene, servo buono; poiché sei stato fedele nelle minime cose, abbi potere su dieci città”.

18 “ The second man came to him and said, ‘Lord, the piece of money you gave me has made five more pieces of money.’

Poi venne il secondo, dicendo: “La tua mina, Signore, ha fruttato cinque mine”.

19 H e said to him, ‘You are to be leader over five cities.’

Egli disse anche a questo: “E tu sii a capo di cinque città”.

20 “ Another one came saying, ‘Lord, look! Here is your piece of money. I have kept it hid in a piece of cloth.

Poi ne venne un altro che disse: “Signore, ecco la tua mina che ho tenuta nascosta in un fazzoletto,

21 I was afraid of you. You are a hard man. You take what you have not put down. You gather where you have not planted.’

perché ho avuto paura di te che sei un uomo duro; tu prendi quello che non hai depositato e mieti quello che non hai seminato”.

22 T he king said to him, ‘By the words from your own mouth I must say that you are guilty. You are a sinful servant. You knew I was a hard man. You knew I take what I have not put down. You knew I gather where I have not planted.

Il re gli disse: “Dalle tue parole ti giudicherò, servo malvagio! Tu sapevi che io sono un uomo duro, che prendo quello che non ho depositato e mieto quello che non ho seminato;

23 W hy did you not put my money in the bank? Then when I came back I could have had my own money and what the bank paid for using it.’

perché non hai messo il mio denaro in banca, e io, al mio ritorno, lo avrei riscosso con l’interesse?”

24 “ Then he said to those who were standing by, ‘Take the piece of money from him and give it to the one who has ten pieces of money.’

Poi disse a coloro che erano presenti: “Toglietegli la mina e datela a colui che ha dieci mine”.

25 A nd they said to him, ‘Lord, he already has ten pieces of money.’”

Essi gli dissero: “Signore, egli ha dieci mine!”

26 J esus said, “I tell you, he who has, to him will be given more. To him who does not have, even the little he has will be taken from him.

“Io vi dico che a chiunque ha sarà dato, ma a chi non ha sarà tolto anche quello che ha.

27 ‘ Bring here those who hated me and did not want me to be their king and kill them in front of me.’”

E questi miei nemici che non volevano che io regnassi su di loro, conduceteli qui e uccideteli in mia presenza”». Ingresso trionfale di Gesù in Gerusalemme; Gesù acclamato dai discepoli

28 W hen He had finished the picture-story, He went on ahead of them up to Jerusalem. The Last Time Jesus Goes into Jerusalem

Dette queste cose, Gesù andava avanti, salendo a Gerusalemme.

29 W hen Jesus was coming near the towns of Bethphage and Bethany by the Mount of Olives, He sent two of His followers on ahead.

Come fu vicino a Betfage e a Betania, presso il monte detto degli Ulivi, mandò due discepoli, dicendo:

30 H e said, “Go into the town ahead of you. There you will find a young donkey tied. No man has ever sat on it. Let it loose and bring it to Me.

«Andate nella borgata di fronte, nella quale, entrando, troverete un puledro legato su cui non è mai salito nessuno; slegatelo e conducetelo qui.

31 I f anyone asks you, ‘Why are you letting it loose?’ say to him, ‘Because the Lord needs it.’”

Se qualcuno vi domanda perché lo slegate, direte così: “Il Signore ne ha bisogno”».

32 T hose who were sent found everything as Jesus had told them.

E quelli che erano stati mandati partirono e trovarono proprio come egli aveva detto loro.

33 A s they were letting the young donkey loose, the owners said to them, “Why are you letting the young donkey loose?”

Mentre essi slegavano il puledro, i suoi padroni dissero loro: «Perché slegate il puledro?»

34 T hey answered, “The Lord needs it.”

Essi risposero: «Il Signore ne ha bisogno».

35 T hen they brought it to Jesus. They put their coats on the donkey and they put Jesus on it.

E lo condussero a Gesù; e, gettati i loro mantelli sul puledro, vi fecero salire Gesù.

36 A s Jesus was going, they put their coats down on the road.

Mentre egli avanzava, stendevano i loro mantelli sulla via.

37 J esus was near the city and ready to go down the Mount of Olives. The many people who were following Him began to sing with loud voices and give thanks for all the powerful works they had seen.

Quando fu vicino alla città, alla discesa del monte degli Ulivi, tutta la folla dei discepoli, con gioia, cominciò a lodare Dio a gran voce per tutte le opere potenti che avevano viste,

38 T hey said, “Great and honored is the King Who comes in the name of the Lord. There is peace and greatness in the highest heaven.”

dicendo: « Benedetto il Re che viene nel nome del Signore; pace in cielo e gloria nei luoghi altissimi!»

39 S ome of the proud religious law-keepers who were in among the people said to Jesus, “Teacher, speak sharp words to Your followers.”

Alcuni farisei, tra la folla, gli dissero: «Maestro, sgrida i tuoi discepoli!»

40 J esus said to them, “I tell you that if these did not speak, the very stones would call out.” Jesus Cried as He Saw Jerusalem

Ma egli rispose: «Vi dico che se costoro taceranno, grideranno le pietre». Il lamento di Gesù su Gerusalemme

41 W hen Jesus came near the city, He cried as He saw it.

Quando fu vicino, vedendo la città, pianse su di essa, dicendo:

42 H e said, “If you had only known on this great day the things that make peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes.

«Oh se tu sapessi, almeno oggi, ciò che occorre per la pace! Ma ora è nascosto ai tuoi occhi.

43 T he time is coming when those who hate you will dig earth and throw it up around you making a wall. They will shut you in from every side.

Poiché verranno su di te dei giorni nei quali i tuoi nemici ti faranno attorno delle trincee, ti accerchieranno e ti stringeranno da ogni parte;

44 T hey will destroy you and your children with you. There will not be one stone on another. It is because you did not know when God visited you.” Jesus Stops the Buying and Selling in the House of God

abbatteranno te e i tuoi figli dentro di te e non lasceranno in te pietra su pietra, perché tu non hai conosciuto il tempo nel quale sei stata visitata». Gesù scaccia i mercanti dal tempio

45 J esus went into the house of God. He made those leave who were buying and selling there.

Poi, entrato nel tempio, cominciò a scacciare i venditori,

46 H e said to them, “It is written, ‘My house is a house of prayer.’ ‘But you have made it a place of robbers.’”

dicendo loro: «Sta scritto: “La mia casa sarà una casa di preghiera ”, ma voi ne avete fatto un covo di ladri ».

47 J esus taught each day in the house of God. But the religious leaders and the teachers of the Law and other leaders of the people tried to think of some way they could kill Him.

Ogni giorno insegnava nel tempio. Ma i capi dei sacerdoti e gli scribi e i notabili del popolo cercavano di farlo morire;

48 T hey could not find a way because the people were always near Him listening to Him teach.

ma non sapevano come fare, perché tutto il popolo, ascoltandolo, pendeva dalle sue labbra.
