1 A nd Jesus entered and passed through Jericho.

Gesù, entrato in Gerico, attraversava la città.

2 A nd, behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich.

Un uomo, di nome Zaccheo, il quale era capo dei pubblicani ed era ricco,

3 A nd he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature.

cercava di vedere chi era Gesù, ma non poteva a motivo della folla, perché era piccolo di statura.

4 A nd he ran before, and climbed up into a sycomore tree to see him: for he was to pass that way.

Allora, per vederlo, corse avanti e salì sopra un sicomoro, perché egli doveva passare per quella via.

5 A nd when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house.

Quando Gesù giunse in quel luogo, alzati gli occhi, gli disse: «Zaccheo, scendi, presto, perché oggi debbo fermarmi a casa tua».

6 A nd he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully.

Egli si affrettò a scendere e lo accolse con gioia.

7 A nd when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner.

Veduto questo, tutti mormoravano, dicendo: «È andato ad alloggiare in casa di un peccatore!»

8 A nd Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord: Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold.

Ma Zaccheo si fece avanti e disse al Signore: «Ecco, Signore, io do la metà dei miei beni ai poveri; se ho frodato qualcuno di qualcosa gli rendo il quadruplo».

9 A nd Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham.

Gesù gli disse: «Oggi la salvezza è entrata in questa casa, poiché anche questo è figlio di Abraamo;

10 F or the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

perché il Figlio dell’uomo è venuto per cercare e salvare ciò che era perduto». La parabola delle dieci mine

11 A nd as they heard these things, he added and spake a parable, because he was nigh to Jerusalem, and because they thought that the kingdom of God should immediately appear.

Mentre essi ascoltavano queste cose, Gesù aggiunse una parabola, perché era vicino a Gerusalemme ed essi credevano che il regno di Dio stesse per manifestarsi immediatamente.

12 H e said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.

Disse dunque: «Un uomo nobile se ne andò in un paese lontano per ricevere l’investitura di un regno e poi tornare.

13 A nd he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come.

Chiamati a sé dieci suoi servi, diede loro dieci mine e disse loro: “Fatele fruttare fino al mio ritorno”.

14 B ut his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us.

Or i suoi concittadini l’odiavano e gli mandarono dietro degli ambasciatori per dire: “Non vogliamo che costui regni su di noi”.

15 A nd it came to pass, that when he was returned, having received the kingdom, then he commanded these servants to be called unto him, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading.

Quando egli fu tornato, dopo aver ricevuto l’investitura del regno, fece venire quei servi ai quali aveva consegnato il denaro, per sapere quanto ognuno avesse guadagnato mettendolo a frutto.

16 T hen came the first, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained ten pounds.

Si presentò il primo e disse: “Signore, la tua mina ne ha fruttate altre dieci”.

17 A nd he said unto him, Well, thou good servant: because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities.

Il re gli disse: “Va bene, servo buono; poiché sei stato fedele nelle minime cose, abbi potere su dieci città”.

18 A nd the second came, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained five pounds.

Poi venne il secondo, dicendo: “La tua mina, Signore, ha fruttato cinque mine”.

19 A nd he said likewise to him, Be thou also over five cities.

Egli disse anche a questo: “E tu sii a capo di cinque città”.

20 A nd another came, saying, Lord, behold, here is thy pound, which I have kept laid up in a napkin:

Poi ne venne un altro che disse: “Signore, ecco la tua mina che ho tenuta nascosta in un fazzoletto,

21 F or I feared thee, because thou art an austere man: thou takest up that thou layedst not down, and reapest that thou didst not sow.

perché ho avuto paura di te che sei un uomo duro; tu prendi quello che non hai depositato e mieti quello che non hai seminato”.

22 A nd he saith unto him, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant. Thou knewest that I was an austere man, taking up that I laid not down, and reaping that I did not sow:

Il re gli disse: “Dalle tue parole ti giudicherò, servo malvagio! Tu sapevi che io sono un uomo duro, che prendo quello che non ho depositato e mieto quello che non ho seminato;

23 W herefore then gavest not thou my money into the bank, that at my coming I might have required mine own with usury?

perché non hai messo il mio denaro in banca, e io, al mio ritorno, lo avrei riscosso con l’interesse?”

24 A nd he said unto them that stood by, Take from him the pound, and give it to him that hath ten pounds.

Poi disse a coloro che erano presenti: “Toglietegli la mina e datela a colui che ha dieci mine”.

25 ( And they said unto him, Lord, he hath ten pounds.)

Essi gli dissero: “Signore, egli ha dieci mine!”

26 F or I say unto you, That unto every one which hath shall be given; and from him that hath not, even that he hath shall be taken away from him.

“Io vi dico che a chiunque ha sarà dato, ma a chi non ha sarà tolto anche quello che ha.

27 B ut those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.

E questi miei nemici che non volevano che io regnassi su di loro, conduceteli qui e uccideteli in mia presenza”». Ingresso trionfale di Gesù in Gerusalemme; Gesù acclamato dai discepoli

28 A nd when he had thus spoken, he went before, ascending up to Jerusalem.

Dette queste cose, Gesù andava avanti, salendo a Gerusalemme.

29 A nd it came to pass, when he was come nigh to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount called the mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples,

Come fu vicino a Betfage e a Betania, presso il monte detto degli Ulivi, mandò due discepoli, dicendo:

30 S aying, Go ye into the village over against you; in the which at your entering ye shall find a colt tied, whereon yet never man sat: loose him, and bring him hither.

«Andate nella borgata di fronte, nella quale, entrando, troverete un puledro legato su cui non è mai salito nessuno; slegatelo e conducetelo qui.

31 A nd if any man ask you, Why do ye loose him? thus shall ye say unto him, Because the Lord hath need of him.

Se qualcuno vi domanda perché lo slegate, direte così: “Il Signore ne ha bisogno”».

32 A nd they that were sent went their way, and found even as he had said unto them.

E quelli che erano stati mandati partirono e trovarono proprio come egli aveva detto loro.

33 A nd as they were loosing the colt, the owners thereof said unto them, Why loose ye the colt?

Mentre essi slegavano il puledro, i suoi padroni dissero loro: «Perché slegate il puledro?»

34 A nd they said, The Lord hath need of him.

Essi risposero: «Il Signore ne ha bisogno».

35 A nd they brought him to Jesus: and they cast their garments upon the colt, and they set Jesus thereon.

E lo condussero a Gesù; e, gettati i loro mantelli sul puledro, vi fecero salire Gesù.

36 A nd as he went, they spread their clothes in the way.

Mentre egli avanzava, stendevano i loro mantelli sulla via.

37 A nd when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen;

Quando fu vicino alla città, alla discesa del monte degli Ulivi, tutta la folla dei discepoli, con gioia, cominciò a lodare Dio a gran voce per tutte le opere potenti che avevano viste,

38 S aying, Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest.

dicendo: « Benedetto il Re che viene nel nome del Signore; pace in cielo e gloria nei luoghi altissimi!»

39 A nd some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Master, rebuke thy disciples.

Alcuni farisei, tra la folla, gli dissero: «Maestro, sgrida i tuoi discepoli!»

40 A nd he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.

Ma egli rispose: «Vi dico che se costoro taceranno, grideranno le pietre». Il lamento di Gesù su Gerusalemme

41 A nd when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it,

Quando fu vicino, vedendo la città, pianse su di essa, dicendo:

42 S aying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes.

«Oh se tu sapessi, almeno oggi, ciò che occorre per la pace! Ma ora è nascosto ai tuoi occhi.

43 F or the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side,

Poiché verranno su di te dei giorni nei quali i tuoi nemici ti faranno attorno delle trincee, ti accerchieranno e ti stringeranno da ogni parte;

44 A nd shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.

abbatteranno te e i tuoi figli dentro di te e non lasceranno in te pietra su pietra, perché tu non hai conosciuto il tempo nel quale sei stata visitata». Gesù scaccia i mercanti dal tempio

45 A nd he went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold therein, and them that bought;

Poi, entrato nel tempio, cominciò a scacciare i venditori,

46 S aying unto them, It is written, My house is the house of prayer: but ye have made it a den of thieves.

dicendo loro: «Sta scritto: “La mia casa sarà una casa di preghiera ”, ma voi ne avete fatto un covo di ladri ».

47 A nd he taught daily in the temple. But the chief priests and the scribes and the chief of the people sought to destroy him,

Ogni giorno insegnava nel tempio. Ma i capi dei sacerdoti e gli scribi e i notabili del popolo cercavano di farlo morire;

48 A nd could not find what they might do: for all the people were very attentive to hear him.

ma non sapevano come fare, perché tutto il popolo, ascoltandolo, pendeva dalle sue labbra.
