1 V erily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.

«In verità, in verità vi dico che chi non entra per la porta nell’ovile delle pecore, ma vi sale da un’altra parte, è un ladro e un brigante.

2 B ut he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.

Ma colui che entra per la porta è il pastore delle pecore.

3 T o him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.

A lui apre il portinaio, e le pecore ascoltano la sua voce; ed egli chiama le proprie pecore per nome e le conduce fuori.

4 A nd when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.

Quando ha messo fuori tutte le sue pecore, va davanti a loro, e le pecore lo seguono, perché conoscono la sua voce.

5 A nd a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.

Ma un estraneo non lo seguiranno; anzi, fuggiranno via da lui perché non conoscono la voce degli estranei».

6 T his parable spake Jesus unto them: but they understood not what things they were which he spake unto them.

Questa similitudine disse loro Gesù; ma essi non capirono quali fossero le cose che diceva loro.

7 T hen said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep.

Perciò Gesù di nuovo disse: «In verità, in verità vi dico: io sono la porta delle pecore.

8 A ll that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them.

Tutti quelli che sono venuti {prima di me}, sono stati ladri e briganti; ma le pecore non li hanno ascoltati.

9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.

Io sono la porta; se uno entra per me, sarà salvato, entrerà e uscirà, e troverà pastura.

10 T he thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

Il ladro non viene se non per rubare, ammazzare e distruggere; io sono venuto perché abbiano la vita e l’abbiano in abbondanza.

11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.

Io sono il buon pastore; il buon pastore dà la sua vita per le pecore.

12 B ut he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep.

Il mercenario, che non è pastoree al quale non appartengono le pecore, vede venire il lupo, abbandona le pecore e si dà alla fuga (e il lupo le rapisce e le disperde ),

13 T he hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep.

perché è mercenario e non si cura delle pecore.

14 I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.

Io sono il buon pastore, e conosco le mie, e le mie conoscono me,

15 A s the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep.

come il Padre mi conosce e io conosco il Padre, e do la mia vita per le pecore.

16 A nd other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.

Ho anche altre pecore, che non sono di quest’ovile; anche quelle devo raccogliere, ed esse ascolteranno la mia voce, e vi sarà un solo gregge, un solo pastore.

17 T herefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.

Per questo mi ama il Padre; perché io depongo la mia vita per riprenderla poi.

18 N o man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.

Nessuno me la toglie, ma io la depongo da me. Ho il potere di deporla e ho il potere di riprenderla. Quest’ordine ho ricevuto dal Padre mio».

19 T here was a division therefore again among the Jews for these sayings.

Nacque di nuovo un dissenso tra i Giudei per queste parole.

20 A nd many of them said, He hath a devil, and is mad; why hear ye him?

Molti di loro dicevano: «Ha un demonio ed è fuori di sé; perché lo ascoltate?»

21 O thers said, These are not the words of him that hath a devil. Can a devil open the eyes of the blind?

Altri dicevano: «Queste non sono parole di un indemoniato. Può un demonio aprire gli occhi ai ciechi?» Gesù afferma la sua divinità

22 A nd it was at Jerusalem the feast of the dedication, and it was winter.

In quel tempo ebbe luogo in Gerusalemme la festa della Dedicazione. Era d’inverno,

23 A nd Jesus walked in the temple in Solomon's porch.

e Gesù passeggiava nel tempio, sotto il portico di Salomone.

24 T hen came the Jews round about him, and said unto him, How long dost thou make us to doubt? If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly.

I Giudei dunque gli si fecero attorno e gli dissero: «Fino a quando terrai sospeso l’animo nostro? Se tu sei il Cristo, diccelo apertamente».

25 J esus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father's name, they bear witness of me.

Gesù rispose loro: «Ve l’ho detto, e non lo credete; le opere che faccio nel nome del Padre mio, sono quelle che testimoniano di me;

26 B ut ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you.

ma voi non credete, perché non siete delle mie pecore.

27 M y sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

Le mie pecore ascoltano la mia voce e io le conosco, ed esse mi seguono;

28 A nd I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

e io do loro la vita eterna, e non periranno mai, e nessuno le rapirà dalla mia mano.

29 M y Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.

Il Padre mio che me le ha date è più grande di tutti; e nessuno può rapirle dalla mano del Padre.

30 I and my Father are one.

Io e il Padre siamo uno».

31 T hen the Jews took up stones again to stone him.

I Giudei presero di nuovo delle pietre per lapidarlo.

32 J esus answered them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me?

Gesù disse loro: «Vi ho mostrato molte buone opere da parte del Padre; per quale di queste opere mi lapidate?»

33 T he Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.

I Giudei gli risposero: «Non ti lapidiamo per una buona opera, ma per bestemmia, e perché tu, che sei uomo, ti fai Dio».

34 J esus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?

Gesù rispose loro: «Non sta scritto nella vostra legge: “Io ho detto: voi siete dèi” ?

35 I f he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken;

Se chiama dèi coloro ai quali la parola di Dio è stata diretta (e la Scrittura non può essere annullata),

36 S ay ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God?

a colui che il Padre ha santificato e mandato nel mondo voi dite: “Tu bestemmi”, perché ho detto: “Sono Figlio di Dio”?

37 I f I do not the works of my Father, believe me not.

Se non faccio le opere del Padre mio, non credetemi;

38 B ut if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him.

ma se le faccio, anche se non credete a me, credete alle opere, affinché sappiate e riconosciate che il Padre è in me e io sono nel Padre ».

39 T herefore they sought again to take him: but he escaped out of their hand,

Essi {perciò} cercavano nuovamente di arrestarlo; ma egli sfuggì loro dalle mani.

40 A nd went away again beyond Jordan into the place where John at first baptized; and there he abode.

Gesù se ne andò di nuovo oltre il Giordano, dove Giovanni da principio battezzava, e là si trattenne.

41 A nd many resorted unto him, and said, John did no miracle: but all things that John spake of this man were true.

Molti vennero a lui e dicevano: «Giovanni, è vero, non fece nessun segno; ma tutto quello che Giovanni disse di quest’uomo era vero».

42 A nd many believed on him there.

E là molti credettero in lui.
