1 T he word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.

Parola che Isaia, figlio di Amots, ebbe in visione riguardo a Giuda e a Gerusalemme.

2 A nd it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the Lord 's house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it.

Avverrà, negli ultimi giorni, che il monte della casa del Signore si ergerà sulla vetta dei monti e sarà elevato al di sopra dei colli; e tutte le nazioni affluiranno a esso.

3 A nd many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.

Molti popoli vi accorreranno e diranno: «Venite, saliamo al monte del Signore, alla casa del Dio di Giacobbe; egli ci insegnerà le sue vie e noi cammineremo per i suoi sentieri». Da Sion, infatti, uscirà la legge, e da Gerusalemme la parola del Signore.

4 A nd he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.

Egli giudicherà tra nazione e nazione e sarà l’arbitro fra molti popoli; essi trasformeranno le loro spade in vomeri d’aratro e le loro lance in falci. Una nazione non alzerà più la spada contro un’altra, e non impareranno più la guerra.

5 O house of Jacob, come ye, and let us walk in the light of the Lord.

Casa di Giacobbe, venite e camminiamo alla luce del Signore! Giudizio contro gli idolatri e gli orgogliosi

6 T herefore thou hast forsaken thy people the house of Jacob, because they be replenished from the east, and are soothsayers like the Philistines, and they please themselves in the children of strangers.

Infatti tu, Signore, hai abbandonato il tuo popolo, la casa di Giacobbe, perché sono pieni di pratiche divinatorie, praticano le arti occulte come i Filistei, fanno alleanza con i figli degli stranieri.

7 T heir land also is full of silver and gold, neither is there any end of their treasures; their land is also full of horses, neither is there any end of their chariots:

Il suo paese è pieno d’argento e d’oro e ha tesori a non finire; il suo paese è pieno di cavalli e ha carri a non finire.

8 T heir land also is full of idols; they worship the work of their own hands, that which their own fingers have made:

Il suo paese è pieno d’idoli: si prostra davanti all’opera delle sue mani, davanti a ciò che le sue dita hanno fatto.

9 A nd the mean man boweth down, and the great man humbleth himself: therefore forgive them not.

Perciò l’uomo sarà umiliato; ognuno sarà abbassato. Tu non li perdonare.

10 E nter into the rock, and hide thee in the dust, for fear of the Lord, and for the glory of his majesty.

Entra nella roccia e nasconditi nella polvere per sottrarti al terrore del Signore e allo splendore della sua maestà.

11 T he lofty looks of man shall be humbled, and the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and the Lord alone shall be exalted in that day.

Lo sguardo altero dell’uomo sarà umiliato e l’orgoglio di ognuno sarà abbassato; il Signore solo sarà esaltato in quel giorno.

12 F or the day of the Lord of hosts shall be upon every one that is proud and lofty, and upon every one that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low:

Infatti il Signore degli eserciti ha un giorno contro tutto ciò che è orgoglioso e altero, e contro chiunque s’innalza, per abbassarlo;

13 A nd upon all the cedars of Lebanon, that are high and lifted up, and upon all the oaks of Bashan,

contro tutti i cedri del Libano, alti, elevati, e contro tutte le querce di Basan;

14 A nd upon all the high mountains, and upon all the hills that are lifted up,

contro tutti i monti alti e contro tutti i colli elevati;

15 A nd upon every high tower, and upon every fenced wall,

contro ogni torre eccelsa e contro ogni muro fortificato;

16 A nd upon all the ships of Tarshish, and upon all pleasant pictures.

contro tutte le navi di Tarsis e contro tutto ciò che piace allo sguardo.

17 A nd the loftiness of man shall be bowed down, and the haughtiness of men shall be made low: and the Lord alone shall be exalted in that day.

L’alterigia dell’uomo sarà umiliata, e l’orgoglio di ognuno sarà abbassato; il Signore solo sarà esaltato in quel giorno.

18 A nd the idols he shall utterly abolish.

Gli idoli scompariranno del tutto.

19 A nd they shall go into the holes of the rocks, and into the caves of the earth, for fear of the Lord, and for the glory of his majesty, when he ariseth to shake terribly the earth.

Gli uomini entreranno nelle caverne delle rocce e negli antri della terra per sottrarsi al terrore del Signore e allo splendore della sua maestà, quando egli sorgerà per far tremare la terra.

20 I n that day a man shall cast his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which they made each one for himself to worship, to the moles and to the bats;

In quel giorno gli uomini getteranno ai topi e ai pipistrelli gli idoli d’argento e d’oro che si erano fatti per adorarli;

21 T o go into the clefts of the rocks, and into the tops of the ragged rocks, for fear of the Lord, and for the glory of his majesty, when he ariseth to shake terribly the earth.

ed entreranno nelle fessure delle rocce e nei crepacci delle rupi per sottrarsi al terrore del Signore e allo splendore della sua maestà, quando egli sorgerà per far tremare la terra.

22 C ease ye from man, whose breath is in his nostrils: for wherein is he to be accounted of ?

Smettete di confidarvi nell’uomo, nelle cui narici non c’è che un soffio; infatti quale importanza gli si potrebbe attribuire?
