1 A nd the Lord said unto Moses, Speak unto the priests the sons of Aaron, and say unto them, There shall none be defiled for the dead among his people:

Il Signore disse ancora a Mosè: «Parla ai sacerdoti, figli di Aaronne, e di’ loro: “Un sacerdote non si esporrà a diventare impuro in mezzo al suo popolo per il contatto con un morto,

2 B ut for his kin, that is near unto him, that is, for his mother, and for his father, and for his son, and for his daughter, and for his brother.

a meno che si tratti di uno dei suoi parenti più stretti: di sua madre, di suo padre, di suo figlio, di sua figlia, di suo fratello

3 A nd for his sister a virgin, that is nigh unto him, which hath had no husband; for her may he be defiled.

e di sua sorella ancora vergine che vive con lui, non essendo ancora sposata; per questa può esporsi all’impurità.

4 B ut he shall not defile himself, being a chief man among his people, to profane himself.

Come capo in mezzo al suo popolo, non si contaminerà profanando se stesso.

5 T hey shall not make baldness upon their head, neither shall they shave off the corner of their beard, nor make any cuttings in their flesh.

I sacerdoti non si faranno tonsure sul capo, non si raderanno i lati della barba e non si faranno incisioni nella carne.

6 T hey shall be holy unto their God, and not profane the name of their God: for the offerings of the Lord made by fire, and the bread of their God, they do offer: therefore they shall be holy.

Saranno santi per il loro Dio e non profaneranno il nome del loro Dio, poiché offrono al Signore i sacrifici consumati dal fuoco, il pane del loro Dio; perciò saranno santi.

7 T hey shall not take a wife that is a whore, or profane; neither shall they take a woman put away from her husband: for he is holy unto his God.

Non sposeranno una prostituta, né una donna disonorata; non sposeranno una donna ripudiata da suo marito, perché sono santi per il loro Dio.

8 T hou shalt sanctify him therefore; for he offereth the bread of thy God: he shall be holy unto thee: for I the Lord, which sanctify you, am holy.

Tu considererai dunque il sacerdote come santo, perché egli offre il pane del tuo Dio: egli ti sarà santo, poiché io, il Signore, che vi santifico, sono santo.

9 A nd the daughter of any priest, if she profane herself by playing the whore, she profaneth her father: she shall be burnt with fire.

Se la figlia di un sacerdote si disonora prostituendosi, ella disonora suo padre; sarà bruciata con il fuoco.

10 A nd he that is the high priest among his brethren, upon whose head the anointing oil was poured, and that is consecrated to put on the garments, shall not uncover his head, nor rend his clothes;

«“Il sommo sacerdote che sta al di sopra dei suoi fratelli, sul capo del quale è stato sparso l’olio dell’unzione e che è stato consacrato e indossa i paramenti sacri, non si scoprirà il capo e non si straccerà le vesti.

11 N either shall he go in to any dead body, nor defile himself for his father, or for his mother;

Non si avvicinerà ad alcun cadavere; non si renderà impuro neppure per suo padre e per sua madre.

12 N either shall he go out of the sanctuary, nor profane the sanctuary of his God; for the crown of the anointing oil of his God is upon him: I am the Lord.

Non uscirà dal santuario e non profanerà il santuario del suo Dio, perché l’olio dell’unzione del suo Dio è su di lui come un diadema. Io sono il Signore.

13 A nd he shall take a wife in her virginity.

Sposerà una vergine.

14 A widow, or a divorced woman, or profane, or an harlot, these shall he not take: but he shall take a virgin of his own people to wife.

Non sposerà né una vedova, né una divorziata, né una disonorata, né una prostituta; ma prenderà per moglie una vergine del suo popolo.

15 N either shall he profane his seed among his people: for I the Lord do sanctify him.

Non disonorerà la sua discendenza in mezzo al suo popolo; poiché io sono il Signore che lo santifico”».

16 A nd the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

Il Signore disse ancora a Mosè:

17 S peak unto Aaron, saying, Whosoever he be of thy seed in their generations that hath any blemish, let him not approach to offer the bread of his God.

«Parla ad Aaronne e digli: “Nelle generazioni future nessuno dei tuoi discendenti che abbia qualche deformità si avvicinerà per offrire il pane del suo Dio;

18 F or whatsoever man he be that hath a blemish, he shall not approach: a blind man, or a lame, or he that hath a flat nose, or any thing superfluous,

perché nessun uomo che abbia qualche deformità potrà accostarsi: né il cieco, né lo zoppo, né chi ha una deformità per difetto o per eccesso,

19 O r a man that is brokenfooted, or brokenhanded,

o una frattura al piede o alla mano,

20 O r crookbackt, or a dwarf, or that hath a blemish in his eye, or be scurvy, or scabbed, or hath his stones broken;

né il gobbo, né il nano, né chi ha un difetto nell’occhio, o ha la rogna o la scabbia, o i testicoli ammaccati.

21 N o man that hath a blemish of the seed of Aaron the priest shall come nigh to offer the offerings of the Lord made by fire: he hath a blemish; he shall not come nigh to offer the bread of his God.

Nessun uomo tra i discendenti del sacerdote Aaronne, che abbia qualche deformità, si avvicinerà per offrire i sacrifici consumati dal fuoco per il Signore. Ha un difetto: non si avvicini quindi per offrire il pane del suo Dio.

22 H e shall eat the bread of his God, both of the most holy, and of the holy.

Egli potrà mangiare il pane del suo Dio, le cose santissime e le cose sante;

23 O nly he shall not go in unto the vail, nor come nigh unto the altar, because he hath a blemish; that he profane not my sanctuaries: for I the Lord do sanctify them.

ma non si avvicinerà alla cortina e non si avvicinerà all’altare, perché ha una deformità. Non profanerà i miei luoghi santi, perché io sono il Signore che li santifico”».

24 A nd Moses told it unto Aaron, and to his sons, and unto all the children of Israel.

Così parlò Mosè ad Aaronne, ai suoi figli e a tutti i figli d’Israele.
