1 A nd the Lord said unto Moses, Speak unto the priests the sons of Aaron, and say unto them, There shall none be defiled for the dead among his people:

Domnul i-a zis lui Moise: „Spune-le preoţilor, fiii lui Aaron, următoarele: «Nici un preot să nu se pângărească atingându-se de un mort din poporul său,

2 B ut for his kin, that is near unto him, that is, for his mother, and for his father, and for his son, and for his daughter, and for his brother.

decât dacă este vorba de rudele lui cele mai apropiate: mama, tatăl, fiul, fiica, fratele

3 A nd for his sister a virgin, that is nigh unto him, which hath had no husband; for her may he be defiled.

şi sora lui, care, fecioară fiind, încă mai locuieşte în casa părintească şi n-a avut soţ; pentru ea se poate pângări,

4 B ut he shall not defile himself, being a chief man among his people, to profane himself.

dar ca fruntaş în poporul său să nu se pângărească.

5 T hey shall not make baldness upon their head, neither shall they shave off the corner of their beard, nor make any cuttings in their flesh.

Preoţii să nu se radă pe cap, să nu-şi taie perciunii şi să nu-şi facă tăieturi în piele.

6 T hey shall be holy unto their God, and not profane the name of their God: for the offerings of the Lord made by fire, and the bread of their God, they do offer: therefore they shall be holy.

Să fie sfinţi pentru Dumnezeul lor şi să nu profaneze Numele Dumnezeului lor, căci ei aduc Domnului jertfele mistuite de foc, mâncarea Dumnezeului lor; de aceea să fie sfinţi.

7 T hey shall not take a wife that is a whore, or profane; neither shall they take a woman put away from her husband: for he is holy unto his God.

Să nu ia în căsătorie o prostituată sau o femeie care s-a pângărit, nici o femeie divorţată de soţul ei, căci ei sunt sfinţi pentru Dumnezeul lor.

8 T hou shalt sanctify him therefore; for he offereth the bread of thy God: he shall be holy unto thee: for I the Lord, which sanctify you, am holy.

Prin urmare, să-i priveşti ca sfinţi, pentru că ei aduc mâncarea Dumnezeului vostru; preotul să fie considerat sfânt de către tine, căci Eu sunt sfânt, Eu, Domnul, Care vă sfinţesc.

9 A nd the daughter of any priest, if she profane herself by playing the whore, she profaneth her father: she shall be burnt with fire.

Dacă fiica unui preot se pângăreşte prostituându-se, ea îşi necinsteşte tatăl; să fie arsă în foc.

10 A nd he that is the high priest among his brethren, upon whose head the anointing oil was poured, and that is consecrated to put on the garments, shall not uncover his head, nor rend his clothes;

Cel care a fost ales mare preot dintre fraţii săi, adică acela pe capul căruia a fost turnat untdelemnul pentru ungere, care a fost pus deoparte ca să poarte veşmintele, să nu-şi descopere capul şi să nu-şi sfâşie veşmintele în nici o împrejurare.

11 N either shall he go in to any dead body, nor defile himself for his father, or for his mother;

Să nu se apropie de nici un mort; să nu se pângărească nici chiar pentru tatăl său sau mama sa.

12 N either shall he go out of the sanctuary, nor profane the sanctuary of his God; for the crown of the anointing oil of his God is upon him: I am the Lord.

Să nu iasă din Lăcaş şi să nu profaneze Lăcaşul Dumnezeului său, căci el a fost învestit în vederea slujirii prin untdelemnul pentru ungere, care este peste el, untdelemnul Dumnezeului său. Eu sunt Domnul.

13 A nd he shall take a wife in her virginity.

Să se căsătorească doar cu o fecioară.

14 A widow, or a divorced woman, or profane, or an harlot, these shall he not take: but he shall take a virgin of his own people to wife.

Să nu se căsătorească cu o văduvă sau cu o femeie divorţată, nici cu o femeie care s-a pângărit sau cu o prostituată. Femeia pe care o va lua de soţie din poporul său, va trebui să fie fecioară,

15 N either shall he profane his seed among his people: for I the Lord do sanctify him.

ca astfel să nu-şi facă de ruşine urmaşii în poporul său; căci Eu sunt Domnul Care-l sfinţesc.»“

16 A nd the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

Domnul i-a zis din nou lui Moise:

17 S peak unto Aaron, saying, Whosoever he be of thy seed in their generations that hath any blemish, let him not approach to offer the bread of his God.

„Spune-i lui Aaron: «Nici un bărbat dintre urmaşii tăi din generaţiile viitoare care va avea o meteahnă să nu se apropie să aducă mâncarea Dumnezeului său.

18 F or whatsoever man he be that hath a blemish, he shall not approach: a blind man, or a lame, or he that hath a flat nose, or any thing superfluous,

Nici unul care va avea vreo meteahnă să nu se apropie, nici unul care va fi orb, şchiop, care va avea faţa mutilată sau un mădular mai lung,

19 O r a man that is brokenfooted, or brokenhanded,

nici unul care va avea piciorul rupt sau mâna ruptă,

20 O r crookbackt, or a dwarf, or that hath a blemish in his eye, or be scurvy, or scabbed, or hath his stones broken;

care va fi cocoşat sau pitic, care va avea un defect la ochi, care va avea râie sau răni pe piele sau ale cărui boaşe nu vor fi întregi.

21 N o man that hath a blemish of the seed of Aaron the priest shall come nigh to offer the offerings of the Lord made by fire: he hath a blemish; he shall not come nigh to offer the bread of his God.

Nici unul dintre urmaşii preotului Aaron, care va avea vreo meteahnă nu va putea să se apropie ca să aducă Domnului jertfe mistuite de foc; cine are o meteahnă nu se poate apropia ca să aducă mâncarea Dumnezeului său.

22 H e shall eat the bread of his God, both of the most holy, and of the holy.

El va putea totuşi mânca din pâinea Dumnezeului său, atât din cea preasfântă, cât şi din cea sfântă.

23 O nly he shall not go in unto the vail, nor come nigh unto the altar, because he hath a blemish; that he profane not my sanctuaries: for I the Lord do sanctify them.

Însă nu va avea voie să se apropie de draperia despărţitoare sau de altar, fiindcă are o meteahnă; să nu-Mi profaneze locurile Mele sfinte, pentru că Eu sunt Domnul Care le sfinţesc.»“

24 A nd Moses told it unto Aaron, and to his sons, and unto all the children of Israel.

Astfel, Moise a spus toate aceste cuvinte lui Aaron, fiilor acestuia şi tuturor israeliţilor.
