1 W oe to the rebellious children, saith the Lord, that take counsel, but not of me; and that cover with a covering, but not of my spirit, that they may add sin to sin:

„Vai de copiii răzvrătiţi, zice Domnul, care fac planuri ce nu sunt de la Mine şi alianţe ce nu vin din Duhul Meu, adăugând astfel păcat peste păcat!

2 T hat walk to go down into Egypt, and have not asked at my mouth; to strengthen themselves in the strength of Pharaoh, and to trust in the shadow of Egypt!

Ei se duc în Egipt, fără să-Mi ceară sfatul, ca să caute adăpost în ocrotirea lui Faraon şi protecţie la umbra Egiptului!

3 T herefore shall the strength of Pharaoh be your shame, and the trust in the shadow of Egypt your confusion.

De aceea ocrotirea lui Faraon va fi pentru voi o ruşine, iar protecţia la umbra Egiptului, o ocară.

4 F or his princes were at Zoan, and his ambassadors came to Hanes.

Pentru că, deşi are prinţi în Ţoan şi trimişii săi au ajuns până la Hanes,

5 T hey were all ashamed of a people that could not profit them, nor be an help nor profit, but a shame, and also a reproach.

fiecare va fi făcut de ruşine de către un popor care nu le este de nici un folos, care nu aduce nici ajutor, nici câştig, ci doar ruşine şi ocară.“

6 T he burden of the beasts of the south: into the land of trouble and anguish, from whence come the young and old lion, the viper and fiery flying serpent, they will carry their riches upon the shoulders of young asses, and their treasures upon the bunches of camels, to a people that shall not profit them.

O profeţie cu privire la animalele din Neghev. „Printr-un ţinut al necazului şi al strâmtorării, al leoaicei şi al leului ce rage, al viperei şi al dragonului, ei îşi cară bogăţiile pe spinarea măgarilor şi averile pe cocoaşa cămilelor, către acel popor ce nu poate ajuta,

7 F or the Egyptians shall help in vain, and to no purpose: therefore have I cried concerning this, Their strength is to sit still.

către Egipt, al cărui ajutor este doar deşertăciune şi nimic. De aceea Îl numesc: « Rahab cel ce nu face nimic.»“

8 N ow go, write it before them in a table, and note it in a book, that it may be for the time to come for ever and ever:

„Acum, du-te şi scrie aceste lucruri pentru ei pe o tăbliţă, scrie-le pe un sul, ca să fie o mărturie veşnică pentru vremea care vine!

9 T hat this is a rebellious people, lying children, children that will not hear the law of the Lord:

Căci ei sunt un popor răzvrătit, nişte copii mincinoşi, copii care nu vor să asculte Legea Domnului,

10 W hich say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits:

care zic văzătorilor: «Să nu mai aveţi vedenii!» şi profeţilor: «Nu ne mai profeţiţi ce este drept! Spuneţi-ne lucruri măgulitoare, profeţiţi-ne iluzii!

11 G et you out of the way, turn aside out of the path, cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us.

Părăsiţi calea! Îndepărtaţi-vă de pe cărare şi nu ne mai confruntaţi cu Sfântul lui Israel!»

12 W herefore thus saith the Holy One of Israel, Because ye despise this word, and trust in oppression and perverseness, and stay thereon:

De aceea aşa vorbeşte Sfântul lui Israel: «Pentru că respingeţi acest mesaj, pentru că vă puneţi încrederea în asuprire şi-n înşelăciune şi vă bazaţi pe ele,

13 T herefore this iniquity shall be to you as a breach ready to fall, swelling out in a high wall, whose breaking cometh suddenly at an instant.

de aceea, această nelegiuire va fi pentru voi asemenea unei spărturi într-un zid înalt, care se lărgeşte şi-i provoacă prăbuşirea, prăbuşire care va veni deodată, într-o clipă.

14 A nd he shall break it as the breaking of the potters' vessel that is broken in pieces; he shall not spare: so that there shall not be found in the bursting of it a sherd to take fire from the hearth, or to take water withal out of the pit.

Îl va sparge ca pe un vas de lut, zdrobit atât de neîndurător, încât printre cioburile lui nu se va mai afla nici măcar unul pentru luat cărbuni din vatră sau pentru scos apă din fântână.»

15 F or thus saith the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: and ye would not.

Stăpânul Domn, Sfântul lui Israel, vorbeşte astfel: «În pocăinţă şi aşteptare va fi izbăvirea voastră, în calm şi încredere va fi tăria voastră.» Dar n-aţi vrut!

16 B ut ye said, No; for we will flee upon horses; therefore shall ye flee: and, We will ride upon the swift; therefore shall they that pursue you be swift.

Aţi zis: «Nu! Ci vom fugi pe cai!» – tocmai de aceea veţi fi nevoiţi să fugiţi! Şi: «Vom călări pe cai iuţi!» – tocmai de aceea urmăritorii voştri vor fi şi ei iuţi!

17 O ne thousand shall flee at the rebuke of one; at the rebuke of five shall ye flee: till ye be left as a beacon upon the top of a mountain, and as an ensign on an hill.

La ameninţarea unuia vor fugi o mie şi la ameninţarea a cinci veţi fugi cu toţii până veţi fi lăsaţi ca un stâlp pe vârful unui munte, ca un steag pe creştetul unui deal.

18 A nd therefore will the Lord wait, that he may be gracious unto you, and therefore will he be exalted, that he may have mercy upon you: for the Lord is a God of judgment: blessed are all they that wait for him.

Totuşi Domnul aşteaptă să vă arate îndurare. Totuşi El Se ridică să vă arate milă. Căci Domnul este un Dumnezeu al dreptăţii! Binecuvântaţi sunt toţi cei ce nădăjduiesc în El!

19 F or the people shall dwell in Zion at Jerusalem: thou shalt weep no more: he will be very gracious unto thee at the voice of thy cry; when he shall hear it, he will answer thee.

Da, popor al Sionului, care locuieşti în Ierusalim, nu vei mai plânge! El se va îndura de tine când îţi va auzi strigătul de ajutor; imediat ce te va auzi, îţi va răspunde.

20 A nd though the Lord give you the bread of adversity, and the water of affliction, yet shall not thy teachers be removed into a corner any more, but thine eyes shall see thy teachers:

Deşi Stăpânul vă va da pâinea necazului şi apa suferinţei, învăţătorii voştri nu se vor mai ascunde, ci ochii voştri îi vor vedea.

21 A nd thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.

Iar dacă vă veţi întoarce fie spre dreapta, fie spre stânga, veţi auzi înapoia voastră o voce, spunând: «Aceasta este calea! Mergeţi pe ea!»

22 Y e shall defile also the covering of thy graven images of silver, and the ornament of thy molten images of gold: thou shalt cast them away as a menstruous cloth; thou shalt say unto it, Get thee hence.

Atunci vă veţi pângări idolii placaţi cu argint şi imaginile acoperite cu aur; le veţi împrăştia ca pe nişte zdrenţe murdare, zicându-le: «Afară cu voi!»

23 T hen shall he give the rain of thy seed, that thou shalt sow the ground withal; and bread of the increase of the earth, and it shall be fat and plenteous: in that day shall thy cattle feed in large pastures.

El va da ploaie seminţei pe care o semeni în pământ, iar rodul pământului va fi gustos şi din abundenţă. În ziua aceea turmele voastre vor paşte pe păşuni întinse;

24 T he oxen likewise and the young asses that ear the ground shall eat clean provender, which hath been winnowed with the shovel and with the fan.

boii şi măgarii care lucrează pământul vor mânca nutreţ sărat, care a fost vânturat cu lopata şi cu furca.

25 A nd there shall be upon every high mountain, and upon every high hill, rivers and streams of waters in the day of the great slaughter, when the towers fall.

Pe fiecare munte semeţ şi pe orice deal înalt vor curge pârâuri, în ziua marelui măcel, când turnurile vor cădea.

26 M oreover the light of the moon shall be as the light of the sun, and the light of the sun shall be sevenfold, as the light of seven days, in the day that the Lord bindeth up the breach of his people, and healeth the stroke of their wound.

Luna va străluci ca soarele, iar lumina soarelui va fi de şapte ori mai puternică, aşa cum este lumina a şapte zile, în ziua când Domnul va tămădui pe poporul Său zdrobit, tămăduindu-i rănile făcute de loviturile Lui.

27 B ehold, the name of the Lord cometh from far, burning with his anger, and the burden thereof is heavy: his lips are full of indignation, and his tongue as a devouring fire:

Priviţi! Numele Domnului vine de departe; vine arzând de mânie şi înconjurat de un nor gros de fum. Buzele Sale sunt pline de indignare, iar limba Sa este ca un foc mistuitor.

28 A nd his breath, as an overflowing stream, shall reach to the midst of the neck, to sift the nations with the sieve of vanity: and there shall be a bridle in the jaws of the people, causing them to err.

Suflarea Lui este ca un potop de apă ce ajunge până la gât. Vine să cearnă neamurile prin sita nimicirii şi să pună o zăbală în fălcile popoarelor, care să-i ducă în rătăcire.

29 Y e shall have a song, as in the night when a holy solemnity is kept; and gladness of heart, as when one goeth with a pipe to come into the mountain of the Lord, to the mighty One of Israel.

Veţi cânta ca în noaptea unei sărbători sfinte. Vi se va bucura inima ca şi când aţi merge, în sunetul flautului, la muntele Domnului, la Stânca lui Israel.

30 A nd the Lord shall cause his glorious voice to be heard, and shall shew the lighting down of his arm, with the indignation of his anger, and with the flame of a devouring fire, with scattering, and tempest, and hailstones.

Domnul va face să se audă glasul Său măreţ şi să fie văzut braţul Său coborând să lovească, într-o mânie aprinsă şi cu flacără de foc mistuitor, cu rupere de nori, furtună şi grindină.

31 F or through the voice of the Lord shall the Assyrian be beaten down, which smote with a rod.

Căci glasul Domnului va zdrobi Asiria. El o va lovi cu un toiag;

32 A nd in every place where the grounded staff shall pass, which the Lord shall lay upon him, it shall be with tabrets and harps: and in battles of shaking will he fight with it.

la fiecare lovitură cu nuiaua pedepsei, pe care Domnul o va îndrepta asupra ei, se va auzi sunetul tamburinelor şi al lirelor. Cu loviturile braţului Său, El se va război cu ea.

33 F or Tophet is ordained of old; yea, for the king it is prepared; he hath made it deep and large: the pile thereof is fire and much wood; the breath of the Lord, like a stream of brimstone, doth kindle it.

Căci Tofetul este de mult timp pregătit, este gata chiar şi pentru împărat. Groapa lui este săpată adânc şi larg, având foc şi lemn din belşug. Suflarea Domnului, ca un şuvoi de pucioasă, îl aprinde.
