1 I f one be found slain in the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee to possess it, lying in the field, and it be not known who hath slain him:

Dacă în ţara pe care Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, ţi-o dă ca moştenire vei găsi pe câmp un om ucis şi nu ştii cine l-a omorât,

2 T hen thy elders and thy judges shall come forth, and they shall measure unto the cities which are round about him that is slain:

cei din sfatul bătrânilor şi judecătorii să vină şi să măsoare distanţa de la omul ucis până la cetăţile cele mai apropiate.

3 A nd it shall be, that the city which is next unto the slain man, even the elders of that city shall take an heifer, which hath not been wrought with, and which hath not drawn in the yoke;

Sfatul bătrânilor din cetatea cea mai apropiată de cel ucis să ia o juncană, care n-a fost pusă la muncă niciodată sau care n-a tras la jug,

4 A nd the elders of that city shall bring down the heifer unto a rough valley, which is neither eared nor sown, and shall strike off the heifer's neck there in the valley:

să o ducă lângă o apă curgătoare unde nu se ară, nici nu se seamănă şi să-i frângă gâtul.

5 A nd the priests the sons of Levi shall come near; for them the Lord thy God hath chosen to minister unto him, and to bless in the name of the Lord; and by their word shall every controversy and every stroke be tried:

Preoţii leviţi să se apropie, pentru că pe ei i-a ales Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru, ca să-I slujească, să binecuvânteze în Numele Lui şi să decidă cu privire la orice ceartă şi la orice rănire.

6 A nd all the elders of that city, that are next unto the slain man, shall wash their hands over the heifer that is beheaded in the valley:

Atunci toţi cei din sfatul bătrânilor cetăţii celei mai apropiate de cel ucis, să se spele pe mâini în apă, deasupra juncanei căreia i-au frânt gâtul

7 A nd they shall answer and say, Our hands have not shed this blood, neither have our eyes seen it.

şi să declare: «Mâinile noastre nu au vărsat sângele acesta şi ochii noştri nu l-au văzut vărsându-se!

8 B e merciful, O Lord, unto thy people Israel, whom thou hast redeemed, and lay not innocent blood unto thy people of Israel's charge. And the blood shall be forgiven them.

Doamne, primeşte această ispăşire pentru poporul Tău, Israel, pe care Tu l-ai răscumpărat şi nu face vinovat poporul Israel de sângele unui om nevinovat.» Şi se va face ispăşire pentru ei din cauza sângelui vărsat.

9 S o shalt thou put away the guilt of innocent blood from among you, when thou shalt do that which is right in the sight of the Lord.

Aşa va trebui să îndepărtaţi de la voi vina pentru sângele nevinovat care este în mijlocul vostru, de vreme ce aţi făcut ce este drept în ochii Domnului. Reglementări privind relaţiile familiale

10 W hen thou goest forth to war against thine enemies, and the Lord thy God hath delivered them into thine hands, and thou hast taken them captive,

Când vei merge la război împotriva duşmanilor tăi şi Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, ţi-i va da în mână şi vei lua prizonieri,

11 A nd seest among the captives a beautiful woman, and hast a desire unto her, that thou wouldest have her to thy wife;

dacă printre ei vei vedea o femeie frumoasă şi te vei îndrăgosti de ea, vei putea s-o iei de soţie.

12 T hen thou shalt bring her home to thine house, and she shall shave her head, and pare her nails;

S-o aduci în familia ta. Să se radă pe cap, să-şi taie unghiile,

13 A nd she shall put the raiment of her captivity from off her, and shall remain in thine house, and bewail her father and her mother a full month: and after that thou shalt go in unto her, and be her husband, and she shall be thy wife.

să-şi schimbe haina pe care o purta când a fost luată captivă, să nu iasă din casă şi să plângă pe tatăl şi pe mama ei o lună de zile. După aceea să intri la ea; tu să-i fii soţ, iar ea să-ţi fie soţie.

14 A nd it shall be, if thou have no delight in her, then thou shalt let her go whither she will; but thou shalt not sell her at all for money, thou shalt not make merchandise of her, because thou hast humbled her.

Dacă nu-ţi va mai plăcea, să o laşi să plece unde doreşte. Nu vei putea s-o vinzi pe argint, nici să te porţi cu ea ca şi cu o sclavă, pentru că ai dezonorat-o.

15 I f a man have two wives, one beloved, and another hated, and they have born him children, both the beloved and the hated; and if the firstborn son be hers that was hated:

Dacă un om are două soţii şi pe una o iubeşte, iar pe cealaltă nu o mai iubeşte şi are copii de la amândouă, dacă întâiul născut este de la soţia pe care nu o iubeşte,

16 T hen it shall be, when he maketh his sons to inherit that which he hath, that he may not make the son of the beloved firstborn before the son of the hated, which is indeed the firstborn:

în ziua când va împărţi moştenirea între fiii lui, nu va putea da dreptul de întâi născut fiului celei pe care o iubeşte în defavoarea întâiului născut care este fiul soţiei pe care nu o iubeşte.

17 B ut he shall acknowledge the son of the hated for the firstborn, by giving him a double portion of all that he hath: for he is the beginning of his strength; the right of the firstborn is his.

Să recunoască dreptul de întâi născut pentru fiul soţiei pe care nu o iubeşte şi să-i dea o parte dublă din toată averea lui. Din moment ce el este primul rod al puterii lui, lui i se cuvine dreptul de întâi născut.

18 I f a man have a stubborn and rebellious son, which will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and that, when they have chastened him, will not hearken unto them:

Dacă un om are un fiu neascultător şi răzvrătit, care nu ascultă de tatăl şi de mama lui şi nu ascultă nici după ce l-au disciplinat,

19 T hen shall his father and his mother lay hold on him, and bring him out unto the elders of his city, and unto the gate of his place;

părinţii să-l ducă înaintea celor din sfatul bătrânilor, la poarta cetăţii

20 A nd they shall say unto the elders of his city, This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton, and a drunkard.

şi să le spună: «Acest fiu al nostru este neascultător şi răzvrătit! Nu ascultă de noi şi este un risipitor şi un beţiv.»

21 A nd all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, that he die: so shalt thou put evil away from among you; and all Israel shall hear, and fear.

Atunci toţi oamenii din cetatea lui să-l omoare cu pietre. Să nimiciţi astfel răul din mijlocul vostru. Toţi israeliţii vor auzi şi se vor teme. Diferite reglementări

22 A nd if a man have committed a sin worthy of death, and he be to be put to death, and thou hang him on a tree:

Dacă un om care a săvârşit un păcat vrednic de moarte, a fost omorât şi l-aţi spânzurat de un copac,

23 H is body shall not remain all night upon the tree, but thou shalt in any wise bury him that day; (for he that is hanged is accursed of God;) that thy land be not defiled, which the Lord thy God giveth thee for an inheritance.

să nu-i rămână trupul atârnat de lemn întreaga noapte, ci să-l îngropaţi în aceeaşi zi, pentru că cel atârnat de lemn este blestemat de Dumnezeu. Să nu pângăriţi pământul pe care Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru, vi l-a dat ca moştenire.
