1 B eloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

Preaiubiţilor, să nu credeţi orice duh, ci verificaţi duhurile, dacă sunt de la Dumnezeu sau nu, pentru că în lume au ieşit mulţi profeţi falşi.

2 H ereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:

Prin aceasta cunoaşteţi Duhul lui Dumnezeu: orice duh care mărturiseşte că Isus Cristos a venit în trup este de la Dumnezeu,

3 A nd every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

iar orice duh care nu-L mărturiseşte pe Isus nu este de la Dumnezeu, ci este al anticristului, despre care aţi auzit că vine; acum el este deja în lume.

4 Y e are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

Copilaşilor, voi sunteţi din Dumnezeu şi i-aţi învins, pentru că Cel Ce este în voi este mai mare decât cel ce este în lume.

5 T hey are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.

Ei sunt din lume şi de aceea ce vorbesc ei este din lume, iar lumea îi ascultă.

6 W e are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

Noi suntem din Dumnezeu; cel care Îl cunoaşte pe Dumnezeu ne ascultă, însă cel care nu este din Dumnezeu nu ne ascultă. Prin aceasta cunoaştem care este Duhul adevărului şi care este duhul rătăcirii. Dragostea este din Dumnezeu

7 B eloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.

Preaiubiţilor, să ne iubim unii pe alţii, pentru că dragostea este din Dumnezeu şi oricine iubeşte este născut din Dumnezeu şi-L cunoaşte pe Dumnezeu!

8 H e that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

Cel ce nu iubeşte nu L-a cunoscut pe Dumnezeu, pentru că Dumnezeu este dragoste.

9 I n this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.

Prin aceasta a fost arătată dragostea lui Dumnezeu între noi: Dumnezeu L-a trimis în lume pe singurul Său Fiu, ca să trăim prin El.

10 H erein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

Dragostea constă în aceasta: nu că noi L-am iubit pe Dumnezeu, ci că El ne-a iubit pe noi şi L-a trimis pe Fiul Său ca jertfă de ispăşire pentru păcatele noastre.

11 B eloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.

Preaiubiţilor, dacă astfel ne-a iubit Dumnezeu, atunci şi noi suntem datori să ne iubim unii pe alţii.

12 N o man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.

Nimeni nu L-a văzut vreodată pe Dumnezeu. Dacă ne iubim unii pe alţii, Dumnezeu rămâne în noi şi dragostea Lui este făcută desăvârşită în noi.

13 H ereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.

Prin aceasta cunoaştem că rămânem în El, şi El în noi: pentru că ne-a dat din Duhul Său.

14 A nd we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.

Iar noi am văzut şi depunem mărturie că Tatăl L-a trimis pe Fiul ca Mântuitor al lumii.

15 W hosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.

Dacă cineva mărturiseşte că Isus este Fiul lui Dumnezeu, atunci Dumnezeu rămâne în el, iar el în Dumnezeu.

16 A nd we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.

Şi noi am cunoscut şi am crezut dragostea pe care o are Dumnezeu în noi. Dumnezeu este dragoste, iar cine rămâne în dragoste rămâne în Dumnezeu, şi Dumnezeu rămâne în el.

17 H erein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.

În felul acesta, dragostea lui Dumnezeu este făcută desăvârşită în noi, pentru ca noi să avem îndrăzneală în ziua judecăţii, fiindcă, în lumea aceasta, cum este El, aşa suntem şi noi.

18 T here is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.

În dragoste nu există frică, ci dragostea desăvârşită alungă frica, pentru că frica are de-a face cu pedeapsa. Cel ce se teme n-a fost făcut desăvârşit în dragoste.

19 W e love him, because he first loved us.

Noi iubim pentru că El ne-a iubit mai întâi.

20 I f a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?

Dacă cineva spune: „Îl iubesc pe Dumnezeu“, dar îşi urăşte fratele, este un mincinos; căci dacă nu-l iubeşte pe fratele său, pe care l-a văzut, nu-L poate iubi pe Dumnezeu, pe Care nu L-a văzut.

21 A nd this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.

Şi porunca pe care o avem de la El este aceasta: cine-L iubeşte pe Dumnezeu, să-şi iubească şi fratele!
