1 A nd the inhabitants of Jerusalem made Ahaziah his youngest son king in his stead: for the band of men that came with the Arabians to the camp had slain all the eldest. So Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah reigned.

În locul lui Iehoram, locuitorii Ierusalimului l-au pus rege pe Ahazia, fiul său mai mic, căci toţi fiii săi mai mari fuseseră ucişi de hoarda care năvălise în tabără împreună cu arabii. Aşa a început să domnească Ahazia, fiul lui Iehoram, regele lui Iuda.

2 F orty and two years old was Ahaziah when he began to reign, and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. His mother's name also was Athaliah the daughter of Omri.

Ahazia era în vârstă de douăzeci şi doi de ani când a devenit rege şi a domnit la Ierusalim timp de un an. Numele mamei sale era Atalia, o nepoată a lui Omri.

3 H e also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab: for his mother was his counsellor to do wickedly.

Şi el a trăit asemenea familiei lui Ahab, fiindcă mama lui îl îndemna să facă rău.

4 W herefore he did evil in the sight of the Lord like the house of Ahab: for they were his counsellors after the death of his father to his destruction.

El a făcut ce este rău înaintea Domnului, întocmai ca cei din familia lui Ahab, căci, după moartea tatălui său, aceştia i-au fost sfetnici spre pierzarea sa.

5 H e walked also after their counsel, and went with Jehoram the son of Ahab king of Israel to war against Hazael king of Syria at Ramothgilead: and the Syrians smote Joram.

El s-a luat după sfatul acestora şi s-a dus cu Ioram, fiul lui Ahab, regele lui Israel, ca să lupte împotriva lui Hazael, regele Aramului, la Ramot-Ghilad. Acolo însă arameii l-au rănit pe Ioram,

6 A nd he returned to be healed in Jezreel because of the wounds which were given him at Ramah, when he fought with Hazael king of Syria. And Azariah the son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to see Jehoram the son of Ahab at Jezreel, because he was sick.

astfel că el s-a întors la Izreel ca să se vindece de rănile pricinuite la Rama în timpul luptei cu Hazael, regele Aramului. Atunci Ahazia, fiul lui Iehoram, regele lui Iuda, s-a dus la Izreel ca să-l vadă pe Ioram, fiul lui Ahab, fiindcă acesta era rănit.

7 A nd the destruction of Ahaziah was of God by coming to Joram: for when he was come, he went out with Jehoram against Jehu the son of Nimshi, whom the Lord had anointed to cut off the house of Ahab.

Prin voia lui Dumnezeu şi spre pierzarea lui Ahazia a venit acesta la Ioram. Căci după ce a sosit la Ioram, el a ieşit împreună cu acesta ca să-l întâmpine pe Iehu, fiul lui Nimşi, cel care fusese uns de Domnul ca să nimicească familia lui Ahab.

8 A nd it came to pass, that, when Jehu was executing judgment upon the house of Ahab, and found the princes of Judah, and the sons of the brethren of Ahaziah, that ministered to Ahaziah, he slew them.

În timp ce Iehu îndeplinea judecata asupra familiei lui Ahab, a dat peste conducătorii lui Iuda şi peste fiii fraţilor lui Ahazia aflaţi în slujba acestuia şi i-a omorât.

9 A nd he sought Ahaziah: and they caught him, (for he was hid in Samaria,) and brought him to Jehu: and when they had slain him, they buried him: Because, said they, he is the son of Jehoshaphat, who sought the Lord with all his heart. So the house of Ahaziah had no power to keep still the kingdom.

După aceea a pornit în căutarea lui Ahazia. Oamenii lui l-au capturat în Samaria, în timp ce acesta se ascundea. Ei l-au adus la Iehu şi l-au omorât. Apoi l-au înmormântat, căci îşi ziceau: „Este totuşi nepotul lui Iehoşafat, cel care L-a căutat pe Domnul din toată inima!“ Astfel, nu a mai rămas nimeni în familia lui Ahazia care să aibă putere să conducă regatul. 10 B ut when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the seed royal of the house of Judah.

Când Atalia, mama lui Ahazia, a văzut că fiul ei a murit, a uneltit să-i omoare pe toţi urmaşii familiei regale a Casei lui Iuda.

11 B ut Jehoshabeath, the daughter of the king, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him from among the king's sons that were slain, and put him and his nurse in a bedchamber. So Jehoshabeath, the daughter of king Jehoram, the wife of Jehoiada the priest, (for she was the sister of Ahaziah,) hid him from Athaliah, so that she slew him not.

Dar Iehoşeba, fiica regelui Iehoram, l-a luat pe ascuns pe Ioaş, fiul lui Ahazia, din mijlocul fiilor regelui, înainte ca ei să fi fost ucişi şi l-a pus împreună cu doica lui într-un dormitor. Astfel Iehoşeba l-a ascuns de Atalia şi aceasta nu l-a omorât. Iehoşeba era fiica regelui Iehoram, soţia preotului Iehoiada şi sora lui Ahazia.

12 A nd he was with them hid in the house of God six years: and Athaliah reigned over the land.

Vreme de şase ani, Ioaş a rămas ascuns împreună cu ei în Casa lui Dumnezeu, timp în care Atalia a domnit peste ţară.
