1 T he words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, of the priests that were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin:

Cuvintele lui Ieremia, fiul lui Hilchia, unul dintre preoţii din Anatot, din teritoriul lui Beniamin.

2 T o whom the word of the Lord came in the days of Josiah the son of Amon king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign.

Cuvântul Domnului a venit la el în al treisprezecelea an al domniei lui Iosia, fiul lui Amon, regele lui Iuda,

3 I t came also in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, unto the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiah the son of Josiah king of Judah, unto the carrying away of Jerusalem captive in the fifth month.

şi în zilele lui Iehoiachim, fiul lui Iosia, regele lui Iuda, până în luna a cincea a anului al unsprezecelea al lui Zedechia, fiul lui Iosia, regele lui Iuda, când locuitorii Ierusalimului au fost duşi în captivitate. Chemarea lui Ieremia

4 T hen the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,

Cuvântul Domnului a venit la mine şi mi-a zis:

5 B efore I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.

– Mai înainte să te fi creat în pântecele mamei tale, te cunoşteam, şi mai înainte să fi ieşit din pântecele ei, te pusesem deoparte şi te făcusem profet al neamurilor.

6 T hen said I, Ah, Lord God! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child.

Eu am răspuns: – Ah, Stăpâne Doamne, eu nu ştiu să vorbesc, căci sunt doar un copil!

7 B ut the Lord said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak.

Însă Domnul mi-a zis: – Nu spune că eşti un copil, căci vei merge la toţi aceia la care te voi trimite şi le vei spune tot ce-ţi voi porunci.

8 B e not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the Lord.

Nu te teme de ei, căci Eu sunt cu tine ca să te scap, zice Domnul.

9 T hen the Lord put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the Lord said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.

Apoi Domnul Şi-a întins mâna, mi-a atins gura şi mi-a zis: – Iată, pun cuvintele Mele în gura ta.

10 S ee, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant.

Astăzi te pun peste neamuri şi peste regate ca să smulgi şi să dărâmi, să distrugi şi să nimiceşti, să zideşti şi să plantezi.

11 M oreover the word of the Lord came unto me, saying, Jeremiah, what seest thou? And I said, I see a rod of an almond tree.

Cuvântul Domnului a venit la mine şi m-a întrebat: – Ce vezi, Ieremia? – Văd un toiag din lemn de migdal, i-am răspuns eu.

12 T hen said the Lord unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I will hasten my word to perform it.

– Ai văzut bine, mi-a zis Domnul, căci Eu veghez ca să împlinesc Cuvântul Meu.

13 A nd the word of the Lord came unto me the second time, saying, What seest thou? And I said, I see a seething pot; and the face thereof is toward the north.

Cuvântul Domnului a venit la mine a doua oară şi mi-a zis: – Ce vezi? – Văd un cazan clocotind, care se revarsă dinspre nord, i-am răspuns eu.

14 T hen the Lord said unto me, Out of the north an evil shall break forth upon all the inhabitants of the land.

– Dinspre nord va izbucni dezastrul peste toţi cei ce locuiesc în ţară, mi-a zis Domnul.

15 F or, lo, I will call all the families of the kingdoms of the north, saith the Lord; and they shall come, and they shall set every one his throne at the entering of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all the walls thereof round about, and against all the cities of Judah.

Căci iată, voi chema toate clanurile regatelor din nord, zice Domnul. Ele vor veni şi îşi vor aşeza fiecare tronul la intrările porţilor Ierusalimului. Vor veni şi vor lupta împotriva tuturor zidurilor ce-l împrejmuiesc şi împotriva tuturor cetăţilor lui Iuda.

16 A nd I will utter my judgments against them touching all their wickedness, who have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, and worshipped the works of their own hands.

Voi rosti asupra lor judecăţile Mele pentru tot răul pe care l-au săvârşit, căci M-au părăsit, au ars tămâie altor dumnezei şi s-au închinat lucrărilor făcute de mâinile lor.

17 T hou therefore gird up thy loins, and arise, and speak unto them all that I command thee: be not dismayed at their faces, lest I confound thee before them.

Tu dar încinge-ţi coapsele! Ridică-te şi spune-le tot ce-ţi voi porunci. Nu tremura înaintea lor, ca nu cumva să te fac Eu să tremuri înaintea lor.

18 F or, behold, I have made thee this day a defenced city, and an iron pillar, and brasen walls against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, against the princes thereof, against the priests thereof, and against the people of the land.

De astăzi vei fi o cetate întărită, un stâlp de fier şi un zid de bronz, ca să stai împotriva întregii ţări, împotriva regilor lui Iuda, a conducătorilor lui, a preoţilor şi a poporului ţării.

19 A nd they shall fight against thee; but they shall not prevail against thee; for I am with thee, saith the Lord, to deliver thee.

Ei se vor lupta împotriva ta, dar nu te vor învinge, căci Eu sunt cu tine, ca să te scap, zice Domnul.
