1 A nd afterward Moses and Aaron went in, and told Pharaoh, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, Let my people go, that they may hold a feast unto me in the wilderness.

După aceea, Moise şi Aaron s-au dus la Faraon şi i-au zis: – Aşa vorbeşte Domnul, Dumnezeul lui Israel: „Lasă-Mi poporul să plece ca să ţină o sărbătoare pentru Mine în pustie.“

2 A nd Pharaoh said, Who is the Lord, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the Lord, neither will I let Israel go.

Dar Faraon a răspuns: – Cine este Domnul ca eu să-L iau în seamă şi să-l las pe Israel să plece? Nu-L cunosc pe Domnul şi nu-l voi lăsa pe Israel să plece.

3 A nd they said, The God of the Hebrews hath met with us: let us go, we pray thee, three days' journey into the desert, and sacrifice unto the Lord our God; lest he fall upon us with pestilence, or with the sword.

Ei au continuat: – Însuşi Dumnezeul evreilor ni S-a arătat; te rugăm, lasă-ne să facem o călătorie de trei zile în pustie, ca să aducem jertfe Domnului, Dumnezeul nostru, căci altfel El va veni peste noi cu molimă şi cu sabie.

4 A nd the king of Egypt said unto them, Wherefore do ye, Moses and Aaron, let the people from their works? get you unto your burdens.

Dar monarhul Egiptului le-a zis: – Moise şi Aaron, de ce abateţi poporul de la lucru? Întoarceţi-vă la treburile voastre!

5 A nd Pharaoh said, Behold, the people of the land now are many, and ye make them rest from their burdens.

Vedeţi, a mai zis Faraon, cât de numeros este acum acest popor în ţară, şi voi vreţi să-l opriţi de la lucru!

6 A nd Pharaoh commanded the same day the taskmasters of the people, and their officers, saying,

În aceeaşi zi, Faraon le-a poruncit vătafilor şi supraveghetorilor poporului:

7 Y e shall no more give the people straw to make brick, as heretofore: let them go and gather straw for themselves.

„Să nu mai daţi poporului paie ca înainte, ca să facă cărămizi, ci să se ducă ei înşişi să şi le adune.

8 A nd the tale of the bricks, which they did make heretofore, ye shall lay upon them; ye shall not diminish ought thereof: for they be idle; therefore they cry, saying, Let us go and sacrifice to our God.

Totuşi să le cereţi acelaşi număr de cărămizi ca mai înainte şi să nu le micşoraţi norma, pentru că sunt leneşi. De aceea îşi permit să strige: «Lasă-ne să plecăm ca să aducem jertfe Dumnezeului nostru!»

9 L et there more work be laid upon the men, that they may labour therein; and let them not regard vain words.

Să li se dea mai mult de lucru, ca să aibă ce să muncească şi să nu mai ia în seamă tot felul de minciuni.“

10 A nd the taskmasters of the people went out, and their officers, and they spake to the people, saying, Thus saith Pharaoh, I will not give you straw.

Vătafii şi supraveghetorii poporului s-au dus şi au anunţat poporul: „Aşa vorbeşte Faraon: «Nu vă mai dau paie;

11 G o ye, get you straw where ye can find it: yet not ought of your work shall be diminished.

mergeţi şi adunaţi-vă paie de oriunde găsiţi, însă să ştiţi că norma voastră nu va fi micşorată.»“

12 S o the people were scattered abroad throughout all the land of Egypt to gather stubble instead of straw.

Poporul s-a răspândit prin toată ţara Egiptului ca să adune mirişte în loc de paie.

13 A nd the taskmasters hasted them, saying, Fulfil your works, your daily tasks, as when there was straw.

Vătafii îi grăbeau, zicându-le: „Terminaţi-vă lucrul, norma zilnică, ca şi atunci când vi se dădeau paie.“

14 A nd the officers of the children of Israel, which Pharaoh's taskmasters had set over them, were beaten, and demanded, Wherefore have ye not fulfilled your task in making brick both yesterday and to day, as heretofore?

Supraveghetorii israeliţilor, care fuseseră puşi peste ei de către vătafii lui Faraon, erau bătuţi şi întrebaţi: „De ce n-aţi terminat ieri şi astăzi numărul de cărămizi pe care-l făceaţi înainte?“

15 T hen the officers of the children of Israel came and cried unto Pharaoh, saying, Wherefore dealest thou thus with thy servants?

Atunci supraveghetorii israeliţilor au venit la Faraon şi i-au zis: – De ce te porţi aşa cu sclavii tăi?

16 T here is no straw given unto thy servants, and they say to us, Make brick: and, behold, thy servants are beaten; but the fault is in thine own people.

Nu li se mai dau paie sclavilor tăi, şi totuşi li se cere aceeaşi normă de cărămizi! Ia aminte cum sunt bătuţi sclavii tăi! Greşeala este a poporului tău!

17 B ut he said, Ye are idle, ye are idle: therefore ye say, Let us go and do sacrifice to the Lord.

Faraon le-a răspuns: – Leneşilor! Asta sunteţi, nişte leneşi! De aceea ziceţi: „Lasă-ne să plecăm ca să aducem jertfe Domnului. “

18 G o therefore now, and work; for there shall no straw be given you, yet shall ye deliver the tale of bricks.

Întoarceţi-vă la lucru, pentru că va trebui să faceţi aceeaşi normă de cărămizi, fără să mai primiţi paie.

19 A nd the officers of the children of Israel did see that they were in evil case, after it was said, Ye shall not minish ought from your bricks of your daily task.

Supraveghetorii israeliţilor şi-au dat seama că sunt în necaz când li s-a spus că nu li se va micşora numărul zilnic de cărămizi.

20 A nd they met Moses and Aaron, who stood in the way, as they came forth from Pharaoh:

Când au ieşit de la Faraon, s-au întâlnit cu Moise şi cu Aaron care îi aşteptau.

21 A nd they said unto them, The Lord look upon you, and judge; because ye have made our savour to be abhorred in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to slay us.

Ei le-au zis: „ Domnul să se uite la voi şi să vă judece! Voi ne-aţi făcut urâţi înaintea lui Faraon şi a vătafilor săi şi le-aţi pus sabia în mână ca să ne ucidă.“

22 A nd Moses returned unto the Lord, and said, Lord, wherefore hast thou so evil entreated this people? why is it that thou hast sent me?

Atunci Moise s-a întors către Domnul şi L-a întrebat: – Stăpâne, de ce ai adus acest necaz peste popor? De ce m-ai trimis?

23 F or since I came to Pharaoh to speak in thy name, he hath done evil to this people; neither hast thou delivered thy people at all.

De când am venit şi i-am vorbit lui Faraon în Numele Tău, el a făcut mai mult rău poporului, iar Tu n-ai făcut nimic ca să-Ţi eliberezi poporul.
